Claude laughed. “Unfortunately that’s part of it, I’m afraid. At least you have Paul to keep you company.”

“Thank God for that.”

Their meals arrived just then and as they ate, they chatted about inconsequential matters—the weather, the business in general, anything that came to mind. When they finished, Claude said he had an appointment and when he’d paid the bill, insisting on paying for Mark’s meal as well, they parted company at the front door of the restaurant. Mark watched as Claude headed back toward the cathedral where, he presumed, the man had parked his car and then he headed home.

All I needed was to see Paul at the Cathedral this morning and the triumvirate would have been complete.

Mark chuckled with amusement as he hurried through the thickening snow toward his apartment. It still bothered him though, seeing Nate there not once but twice. He knew Nate’s real name was Natale Filippi, a fact Paul had dropped during one of their many conversations.
