Chapter 7

Tara had always been a silent child. It was only when she was with her father that she was vivacious. After her father left, she had grown more withdrawn from the world. Naomi tried her best to help her out of the cocoon she had built for herself; but in vain.

After that, Naomi tried her best not to intervene too much in her daughter's life, which earned her daughter's respect. Naomi let her do as she pleased because Tara, like her husband enjoyed privacy better than many things. It was not easy for Naomi to see her brilliant daughter choose English Literature as her major, when she wanted her to be a physicist like her father. She bore the disappointment well. Even though she was extremely proud of her sullen, beautiful and brilliant daughter, she could not help but think that Tara could be more than just an editor in a publishing house.

Naomi had never raised her opinions much, but for the last couple of years she had been worried if she was right in giving Tara too much freedom. She even asked herself if Tara was wasting her life and was it her fault?

It was after this that Naomi started to enquire more about her daughter's life by asking her friends. This was the only choice Naomi had because Tara had a knack for ignoring questions she did not want to answer. But when she found out that Naomi was going behind her back to learn more about her professional and dating life, she almost burst a blood vessel.

There were always disagreements between Naomi and Tara. But that was their first official fight and it scarred both of them. They were polite to each other after the fight because both were embarrassed by how they behaved and decided to put the past behind them.

But the fragile peace established was short lasting because soon Tara came to her Mom's home with Dan for Easter.
