Chapter 12

Like that, things slowly started to spiral out of control. Dan tried his best to change Tara in to someone of his preference, whereas Tara tried her best not to shout at Dan. Tara wanted to break up with him knowing that their relationship would not lead anywhere and would only make her feel unwanted and unlovable.

Tara started to avoid coming home early, for fear that she would find him at her doorstep with some flowers in his hands to surprise her. He has started to become predictable, and Tara now knew what he was going to say or do before he does!

At first Tara being busy at her office even on weekends only confirmed his suspicion that he was a workaholic-like him. That was one of the things that drew him to her- her passion for her work. But when she started to avoid meeting him continuously and was always distracted made him feel like she was pulling away from him. Dan confronted Tara about this once over dinner, when they were finally able to catch up with each other.

"Are you really busy with work or are you trying to avoid me"

Tara was a bit stunned even though she knew he would ask about it. A part of her wanted to break up with him, but there was another part of her that wanted to hold on to him. Staring at his puppy dog eyes was a mistake she regretted instantly. She tore her eyes away from him and focused on the table mat and the intricate designs on it. She could not tell him that she had been avoiding him like the plague for the past two weeks, and she was not completely ready to break up with him. Therefore, like everybody else in that situation, she lied.

"You think only your job is demanding. You don't know how hard an editor has to work, and to top it I am a woman. They expect me to be a superwoman."

"You are a superwoman." replied Dan with a sweet smile.

That sweet smile made Tara guilty and she was only able to return an awkward smile.
