Selene doesn’t want to find out where the stench of blood is coming from, but she also doesn’t want to be left alone in the growing darkness. Onyx appears to sense her conflicting emotions.
“You don’t know how to fight in your wolf form yet. Please, stay here,” he instructs.
Selene watches as the two take off toward the towering structure. Onyx is right, she doesn’t know how to fight. She wouldn’t know the first thing about attacking anyone or anything in her wolf form. It makes her feel useless. As the minutes pass, and neither one of them return, Selene fights the urge to move closer to the shrine. It’s been too long, she thinks. What if they’re in trouble?
Selene jumps as some rocks move behind her. You’re okay, you’re a witch, she tells herself. You’re out in the wilderness with other animals and living things. Not everything is a threat. She jumps again as something bumps up against her. Turning around quickly, she finds Onyx standing there.
