Chapter 11

SOMETHING WAS WRONG.

I wasn't sure how exactly I knew, but the second my house came into view, a prickling feeling danced across my skin. The hairs on my arms all stood up, my stomach flipping in nervousness. While nothing looked off, a nagging feeling inside me told me to get inside as quickly as possible. With the alarming thought that something might have happened to Devin, I sped up, rushing to get in.

The sound of blood rushing to my head filled my ears, but I knew I wouldn't be able to calm down until I was sure everything was okay.

I slammed the front door open, my eyes wide and alert. The distant sound of laughter filled the small house, which immediately set me off. Who was laughing in our house? I paused for a second, holding my breath. It seemed like there was more than one person, and I knew it wouldn't be Mother and Father; the two of them barely spoke, let alone have a laugh together.
