Making extra money.

The bell rang and echoed throughout the entire school. This was to signal that school was dismissed, and shortly after, students started to troop out from their classes in large numbers, heading home.

Meanwhile, Devon was among the first to come out, his feet feeling heavy. Throughout the rest of the day, he had been thinking about what Dennis said about the extraordinary.

It wasn't what he said about them being the reason why humans are still alive and living normally. He was mainly contemplating what he said about their money.

Teacher Dennis had made it clear during his lesson that the extraordinary were highly sought out, and anyone who was found would be offered a great deal that could last for eternity for their lineage. Of course, nothing else would have piqued Devon's interest if not for this.

It made him think more about himself. Since he was a werewolf, didn't that automatically make him extraordinary? Thinking of the deal and how he could give his sister a better life in a five or four-star city made Devon's blood boil with excitement.

Unfortunately, his excited state was cut short by Kelvin yelling from behind.

"Hey, Devon...wait up!" he called as he tried to catch up with him.

Devon turned around to see Kelvin. "What's up, man? Were you planning to leave me behind?" Kelvin asked, somewhat exhausted after catching up to Devon.

"Sorry... I was carried away by some of my thoughts. Anyway, let's get going," Devon said.

Kelvin didn't fail to notice the excitement in Devon's tone.

Kelvin's place was a bit closer to the school than Devon's place, but the two had to take the same route, with Kelvin being the first to reach his place and Devon continuing the journey alone.

Devon was thankful for this setup. At least Kelvin wouldn't get to know about what he usually did after school hours.

Kelvin, in the first place, never went to a government school because of his family's financial instability. Kelvin's parents had no problem with sending their only child to a more prominent school in the city.

Rather, it was Kelvin's choice to go to a government school where he could pay less money and keep the rest to invest in the laboratory he built in their basement.

Devon was aware that Kelvin's family worked at a company that paid their workers well, and he knew that Kelvin's family at least had the qualifications to live in a four-star city, yet they chose to stay in a three-star city for some reason.

Knowing this, Devon would never want to bother Kelvin with his problems and would try to hide his struggles from him.

Not long, though, they were inching closer to Kelvin's place, and it was time for them to split up.

It was then that a question suddenly popped into Devon's head, and he asked without shying away.

"I forgot to ask you this, but do you know how werewolves are created? I mean, is there any other way?" Devon suddenly asked.

"This is the second time today you've asked about werewolves, and yet you claim not to be a fan!" Kelvin raised his eyebrows.

Devon said nothing as he waited for Kelvin's response. "Fine... According to the stories I've read, some are born just like us humans, and some are created by bites,"

"You see, when a werewolf bites a human without killing them directly, they spread some of their genetic material into the humans, and this material will alter the human cells inside us, turning us into werewolves," Kelvin said.

'So that is what actually happened... I was bitten by that weird-looking man. Was he a werewolf?' Slowly, the puzzle was being solved, and Devon was getting to know what actually transpired between him and the strange-looking man that night.

But what still didn't make sense to Devon was how the system got into everything. Was it the same man who implanted the system in his mind?

While lost in his thoughts, Kelvin was calling out to Devon.

"Hey, buddy, snap out of it... I know what you might be thinking. I don't know what made you think that werewolves are real, but even if they turned out to be real, I personally advise you not to take the path you're thinking of," Kelvin said.

"And what do you think I'm thinking about?" Devon asked.

Kelvin sighed. "Okay... Let's just assume that you are actually a werewolf. My best guess is that you are considering handing yourself over to the government as an extraordinary, as the teacher said?"

For a moment, Devon thought that Kelvin was a mind reader, but he still allowed him to continue.

"What could be wrong with that?" Devon asked, not seeing any fault in it.

"Think about what they will do to you... I mean, you are a werewolf, and if they found out, surely they will grant you your wishes. But what about what you will do for them? Imagine being starved for a long time, only served about twice a week. I want you to think about the hellish experience you will face." After dropping those words, Kelvin walked away into a mini-mansion on the roadside, leaving Devon standing outside like a statue.

"Why didn't I think about this?" Devon wondered at how careless he had been just now.

He had already been planning on handing himself over to the government as an extraordinary. Surely, the bags of money would be delivered to him, but the question was, would he ever get to enjoy them?

At that moment, Devon felt like he was back at square one. He couldn't thank Kelvin enough for waking him up from his delusional state.

"That would have cost me a lot. Although I want to provide for my sister, I also want to enjoy this life as well," Devon muttered to himself.

He arrived at the restaurant, and as usual, his mind was filled with thoughts of what to do with his life.

While in the kitchen, he reached into his pocket and brought out the note that Malik had given him.

'This isn't the lifestyle I want, but I will do anything for the survival of myself and my sister,' Devon concluded in his mind.

Later that night, Devon returned to their house, and Lilly was already fast asleep in her room.

Devon made sure to change into a new pair of black sports trousers and then a red hoodie that he tied around his neck to tighten the fit. He also used a nose mask to cover his nose, thus masking himself.

When he was ready, he sneaked outside and started heading towards the address Malik had given him.

Not long after, Devon found himself on a building construction site that was fenced all around. Inside, he could hear the sounds of music from a portable speaker of some sort.

At the entrance of the construction site, he could see a familiar figure standing there with his arms crossed over his chest. It was none other than Malik, still dressed in the school uniform.

Devon went and stood in front of him.

"It's you... I see...so you took my advice," Malik said with a smile. "Now let's go make some money," he said, leading the way.
