I'm Adopted?

The atmosphere in the house was heavy with deafening silence.

Nicole had a dumbfounded expression before her eyes watered again at what her mother revealed.

"I-I'm adopted?"

She sobbed before she cried out loud that it's enough to be heard through the whole neighborhood.

"Sshhh... don't cry... and don't listen to your mother's words. She's just trying to mess with you."

Mr. Vargaz wiped Nicole's tears before he shot a look at his wife who's holding back her laughter before she bursts out laughing.

"I'm... sorry... pfft... it's... been a while... hahaha!"

Nicole and her father just stared at her mother and waited for her until she finished laughing.

"You done?" Mr. Vargaz asked in a bored tone.

Mrs. Vargaz cleared her throat before nodding.

The both of them then faced their daughter. They contemplated for a moment whether they'd really tell her the truth now or later until Mr. Vargaz spoke.

"Nicole this' a secret that we've been hiding from you for a while now and I guess now's the chance to-"

Mr. Vargaz stopped talking because of the pat on his shoulder from his wife. He looked at her and she shook her head. He understood what she meant and just kept silent to let her talk.

"Nicole, I know that you're thinking a lot of things now because of the text messages that you've read and the secret that we've kept on saying but let's stop here. Give me and your father some more time to make ourselves ready. Okay?"

Nicole nodded at what her mother said.

"Well then, let's eat dinner. I'm starving."

Mr. Vargaz broke the silence and stood up. He helped his wife and daughter stand up and the three of them set the table for dinner.

They usually talk about what they did during the day at dinner but this time, they were silent until they finished.

Nicole's parents volunteered and insisted that they'll be the one to do the table cleaning and dishwashing so she agreed and went in her room to finish her assignment. Since she's already halfway through, she's done it within a few minutes. She packed up her things for tomorrow so that she'll not forget anything then went to bed.

Nicole stared at the light bulb on the ceiling and her mind kept wandering everywhere, thinking about what her parents just said.

'What is the secret that they kept on talking about?'

This is the thought that remained in her head until she'd fallen asleep.

Meanwhile, Mr. and Mrs. Vargaz is peeping at their daughters door until they're sure that she's gotten into a deep slumber.

The two looked at each other then sighed before closing the door and went into their room.

Mr. Vargaz sat on the side of their bed.

"Why didn't you let me tell her the truth Laurena?"

Mrs. Vargaz closed their door and leaned on it then crossed her arms.

"Think carefully Henry. If you told her that earlier, do you think she'll believe you? I don't think so."

Henry looked up his wife before he sighed in defeat.

"Well then, what are we supposed to do now?"

Laurena thought about it before speaking in a bossy manner with a serious aura.

"Call the twins and tell them that they'll need to prepare everything." A small grin appeared on her thin red lips. "We'll be back soon."
