Chapter Eight

"What do you want for dinner then or do you want to eat out?" Jin Chen asked Yang Lifei who had her head on his lap using it as her pillow.

"Surprise me, I'm sure you wouldn't disappoint me," Yang Lifei replied to him making his hand that was running through her hair to pause for a second before it resumed.

"Alright then," right then they were interrupted by the ringing of a phone. It was Yang Lifei's phone that was ringing. Jin Chen passed the phone to her from the coffee table since she didn't want to get up from such a comfortable position. Seeing that it was her brother who was calling, he directly picked up the phone and put it on hands free mode.

[Little Fei, come out and have dinner with me. My treat] Yang Feng's voice was heard from the other end of the line.

"Brother," Yang Lifei almost broke into tears when she heard her brother's voice on the other end of the phone. How long was it after she last heard or saw her carefree brother.

[Little Fei what's wrong? Why are you crying? Did that Jin Chen bully you? Tell brother and I'll beat him up for you! How dare he bully my little sister?] Yang Feng's gentle voice was heard from the other side like he was coaxing a little girl. Although his little sister was always cold to outsiders, she never show that cold face to her family members. Even her friends weren't treated the same way as her family. But how was she misled by her friends? That was because she had only that cold on the exterior but was naive on the inside because of all the pampering by her family.

"Brother, I've missed you," her voice was still shaken from all the emotions. Even Jin Chen had no idea why she was so emotional since she woke up in the afternoon. It was like she had become a different person all together. He could only rub her hair in a soothing manner to calm her down but that didn't work. It was like she was adding fuel to the already burning fire.

[Little Fei, what's wrong? Didn't we see other yesterday? ] Yang Feng was petrified. Although his sister was naive, she hardly cried. He had never witnessed his sister being so emotional.

"Why don't you come over and have dinner with us instead at our house?" Jin Chen seeing Yang Lifei in such a state couldn't bear it anymore and after saying that sentence to Yang Feng, he directly hung up the phone without waiting for his reply. After all Yang Feng knew where he was staying in the city since they were considered friends after he had an arranged marriage with Yang Lifei.

He didn't ask Yang Lifei what was wrong but directly carried her back to their bedroom. He placed her on the bed and laid beside her hugging while rubbing her back. He knew that things changed since yesterday but didn't know what brought all these changes. With Yang Lifei's unstable emotional state, he could only give her a shoulder to lean on. He hoped that she would tell him one day what was bothering her.

Seeing her in that state was making his heart clench painfully, like someone was twitching his heart with a sharp knife.

Just what did she experience?

Yang Lifei had cried herself to sleep by the time her brother had arrived and both men thought that it wasn't wise to wake her up.

"What's wrong with with my sister? She had never been emotional before?" That was the first question Yang Feng asked when she arrived at Jin Chen's house.

"She seems different ever since she woke up this afternoon. She's overly emotional and there's sadness in her eyes whenever she looks at me in the eye, and guilt? I don't understand as well," Jin Chen wasn't greedy with words considering Yang Feng was his friend and also future brother in law.

"Considering her relationship with those and how much she had indulged them in the past and how she hasn't been angered by how you dealt with them, it's considered strange," Yang Feng knew his sister. She had always did whatever she could to save Xue Li and Li Xuan's family businesses whenever they encountered problems but this time, she was calm.

That was odd.

"Did something happened between them?"

"No, apart from the drugging of her drink. There's nothing," Jin Chen was beginning to feel frustrated from this situation and Yang Feng could see it clearly seeing how he was pinching between his eyebrows, a habit he does whenever he couldn't figure something out.

"No worries man, I'm sure she'll come clean with you soon enough seeing that she still stayed at your place even after waking up," Yang Feng was overprotective of his sister but from the time he had known Jin Chen, he knew that the man meant well for his sister and he wasn't someone who wasn't responsible.

"Hmm," with that, Jin Chen got up to to the kitchen to make dinner since Yang Lifei had said that she would be happy to eat his food. Maybe the food would help lift her spirits? Seeing that, Yang Feng followed him as well. He could cook well and his sister loved his cooking, so he decided to help.
