Chapter 24

“Your dad would be real proud of you. He can’t tell you, but I know he is. I’m gonna recommend you to Hank and the boys uptown.”

No, he couldn’t take this promotion. Not when he was thinking of quitting the business of construction all together and finding his real passion again. Whatever that passion may be. “Ted, I have to talk to you about something—” But Liam’s phone vibrated against his thigh. “Hold on.” He pulled his phone out and discreetly checked the caller ID. Hot blood raced to his head.

Kieran.

“Ted, I gotta take this.”

Ted smiled, bouncing his eyebrows. “Sure thing…Don’t wanna keep your sweet stuff waiting. Look, we’ll talk about this later. It’s not like I’m leaving right this minute.”

Sweet stuff. If only he knew.

Liam gave Ted a warm smile, watching him walk out of the trailer, but at the sound of Kieran’s tense voice, the smile vanished from Liam’s face.

Something was wrong.

Kieran sounded shaken.
