Rens Databook: Hyuga vs Uchiha

I'll state this from the get go Sharingan is like a million times better than the Byakugan. There's no level of BS anyone can spin to say otherwise.

Because of the Sharingan being so OP though it's often forgotten that the Hyuga were known as the strongest Noble clan after the First Great Shinobi war.

Why?

After the first war there were only 3 Senju left. Why 3? Nawaki is 12 when he dies and died at the start of the second Great War. Theres 20 years of peace after the first war, which means he was conceived 8 years after the end of the first war. Only Hashi had a son, Tobirama never had children. I hope we all know the last one is Tsunade. In the end the Senju while the founding clan couldn't be said to be the strongest with just 3 members and of the 3 two were children.

As for the Uchiha. With out Madara you could say they never truly stood on their own. Same as the Senju. They rely too much on the fame of a few standout shinobi. Madara alone instilled so much fear with his use of Sharingan that Tobirama seems to have a trauma.

After the first shinobi war though the Uchihas numbers were greatly reduced and lost a lot of their already few Sharingan users. The even lower amount of Sharingan users left couldn't be compared to a a clan filled with guaranteed Byakugan. Especially without any Mangekyo.

Now your response is likely that I'm full of shit and I'm just making the Hyuga better due to bias for my OC. Unfortunately, no. The Hyuga were better, this is canon and I'll explain why it makes sense.

The reason the Hyuga stand out more than the Uchiha is that their is one key difference between each clans Dojutsu. Access.

Make no mistake the Byakugan is guaranteed at birth, if you're a Hyuga congratulations you have Byakugan. (This is based on what is stated in the official character book)

Now people would then argue "Boruto doesn't have one so your wrong" even with me referencing the official material (Jogan doesn't count). The key fact forgotten there is Hinata is the first known member to marry outside the clan. Prior to her no one had and no one ever could marry outside the clan, so it was genetically impossible to not have Byakugan. You could say Boruto just had shit luck genetically until Toneri gave him the boost.

So the point being is that the Byakugan is guaranteed at birth, and according to the official databook you only have to train to use it effectively.

That aside the main family trains constantly on their secret techniques and gathers power in a safe environment. Branch family members get the short end of the stick but are the main members of a lot of Konohas infrastructure. They can be spotted in Konohas barrier, interrogation, scouting, medical, and frontline ninja squads. They standout politically and have sufficient overall strength to be called the strongest clan by Konoha residents.

The Uchiha on the other hand couldn't produce a lot of Sharingan. Sasuke himself states it's supposed to be unique to only a small number of Uchiha. The overuse of them throughout the canon makes it seem otherwise but it doesn't change the established fact it's not supposed to be common.

The reason for this can be attributed to the clans policies and overall situation in the village. Not to mention the Sharingan is supposed to be hard to acquire.

Remember based on Tobirama's description when talking to Sasuke the Sharingan requires for one to have extreme love then experience agony or disappointment of losing that love.

That condition alone is rough to the point that the Fuma clan (distant relatives of the Uchiha) never awakened any Sharingan. The Uchiha also suffer from their own practices and Tobirama being a dick.

After the first ninja war very few Uchiha had roles outside of the Military Police, a role that was meant to be a high position but also a way to chain the Uchiha to the borders of Konoha. Tobirama willingly admits he tried to limit the appearance of the Sharingan this way because he feared it. The military police was really just secretly a way for Konoha to monitor for an appearance of another Madara.

This is why during the 20 years of peace after the first shinobi war the Uchiha both benefited and lost.

The loss was that in times of peace it's hard to trigger the Sharingan, they were ostracized for being the police, and overall had low political power. The benefit was they had safety in the fact not many Sharingan appeared.

This is probably why they never opted for a cursed seal for their eyes. I argue it's just a matter of arrogance breeds stupidity though.

Now the Sharingan apart from being tough to trigger is also hard to guarantee. Why would it be so hard to guarantee for its clan members? Unlike the Hyuga they don't seem to force inter breeding.

Because they are willing to marry outside of the clan it lowers the chance of the Sharingan at a genetic level. The members that marry outside the clan are then sent to live outside of the clan quarters. In effect trimming their gene pool slowly. They only seem to return if they or their offspring manage to use the Sharingan. Case and point Izumi (Itachis girl) is the daughter of an outsider father and Uchiha mother. She triggers the Sharingan but her mom doesn't.

That aside you must also remember while Madara is the first to activate Mangekyo, the Mangekyo never appears again until Fugaku and he smartly hides it. Well until an idealistic younger dumb dumb gets one and ruins it. Then Danzo and all that. The point being there's never an Uchiha at Madaras level until seemingly the third war.

So at the one point they have two individuals with massive personal strength again. I argue at this particular point they are the strongest clan. Sure Shisui and Fugaku would be their only real fighters and the rest would like get massacred by the Hyuga but they could win with just two Mangekyo. In reality Shisuis would be enough.

At any point in time between the end of the first war and into the third war though, the Hyuga could fight the Uchiha and win. They would likely have more Sharigan present after the two wars but reality is they would be steam rolled with the Hyugas numbers. Only the Mangekyo would truly shit the odds.

Unfortunately when they eventually have enough strength to stand out though, it results in them getting massacred. They were culled before it became relevant and only solidified the Hyugas position.

Sharingan still better though.
