How to be a Protagonist

Hello everyone! Hyuga Ren here! Giving you the play by play!

Now my acting skills could use some polish since well… I don't have any. Now maybe you're thinking:

You just pulled a fast one on the Hokage! Peddle your bullshit else where!

You would be half right though. I really didn't trick the Hokage. The Hokage tricked the Hokage.

The facts are I came to Konoha Hospital with the intention of having someone teach me medical ninjutsu on the sly. With the byakugan and the chakra control granted by the gentle fist I was actually halfway there.

Medical ninjutsu is just a slight variance to gentle fist you see. All it requires is to change the gentle fist from causing harm with its chakra injection to providing healing. That maybe a broad simplification of the actual subject but the theory was correct. So your next point should be, well why not learn that in the clan? Surely the Hyuga have healing ninjutsu if it's so simple.

Ring a ding ding!

You would be spot on! Except you forget my place as a branch family member. Such arts are not distributed to those outside the main family. Why? It has to do with the Hyuga's livelihood, medicine.

Always remember the main family is meant to handle all of the clans internal affairs and the branch family is meant to exist to protect the main family. You wouldn't exactly tell your bodyguard the secret to where you get the money to pay him would you?

So my intention with coming to Konoha hospital was to play the wounded kid card. Seeing as you know, I was a wounded kid. Show my wicked scars for pity. Have the pity turn into medical ninjutsu lessons.

My main concerns with the plan were that I didn't know if the wounded kid card would work at all.

A very little talked about fact is that Shinobi are all more or less ridiculously young. Kakashi was a full fledged killing machine by 5 years old. The average academy graduation age is 10-12 years old and most Shinobi don't make it past their 20's thanks to the job hazards. The facts are the term child is suggestive in this world filled with literal child soldiers.

The next concern was the Hyuga cursed seal itself. To say branch family members had no rights is actually correct and true to cannon.

The Hyuga while being one of the most respected clans in Konoha actually received the most criticism for the way they handled their class system. To the Hyuga such criticisms were of no concern though as this had been an established tradition for generations and while other clans in Konoha often showed or stated discomfort over it, the class system never changed.

That also means though a medical-nin attending to a branch family member may not be keen on meddling in the clans affairs and take pity on me. An average citizen may show sympathy for the branch family but anyone high enough in the food chain like a medical-nin though would see it's merit.

The reality of the branch family was that they would be a guaranteed military force of Konoha soldiers that would not risk the loss of the Byakugan. The main family's responsibility was simply to maintain and continue the clan. The branch family's duty was to protect them so they could do that. The truth is overall not everyone is in mine and fathers situation. Most branch family members were happy with their lot in life because well the will of fire is a real potent cult, but the cursed seal also provides a layer of protection.

The Byakugan was an easily used transplant. Unlike the massive chakra strain the Sharingan has, the Byakugan can be used by anyone that gets its hands on it with little to no side effects. Naturally it would be coveted, so the cursed seal was really meant to be a shield more than a noose. The Uchihas future clearly a sign the Hyuga were not wrong to go to such extents.

Overall my plan in coming to Konoha hospital did not have a guaranteed success rate and when I saw that I would be attended to by a male doctor I lost a little hope. Women tended to have more of a soft spot for kids. Don't use that woman as reference… I think the rest should be normal.

Things managed to go my way though and honestly far above what I could ever imagine. I ran into the Third by pure coincidence and I genuinely had no idea he would follow let alone walk into my little moment here.

As soon as I saw him though I was sincerely happy, this was some protagonist level luck. So I couldn't miss my big shot! Unfortunately what I would have to be was kind of demeaning to me, but it was time to be the most naive person in the world!

That was my in and he took to it because… well the title of the Professor wasn't earned by not wanting to nurture children now was it?

As I walked along with Sarutobi he asked me a question.

"You do know I'm the Hokage right?"

"That's what a scammer would say old man. Are you sure you're not a scammer? Are you in cahoots with that medical- nin!?"

"I'M THE HOKAGE! NOT A SCAMMER!… have you been living under a rock or something!?"

"Pretty much old man… this is my first time ever out of the compound…"

"Hmm…. Alright then. Also I'm 34 that's not old."

" That's really old though?"

"No it's not!"

"Haiz…whats your name kid?"

As I begin a ninja pose I scream

"Oh don't be shocked old man, for I am Ren the Third Hokage! And I've got you now scammer!"

The massive pain and accompanying welt on top of my head by some seriously freaky super speed, leaves me a little dumbstruck.

"Holy shit are you really the Hokage!?"

" Yes kid just look above you."

Of course as we were headed to the Konoha office the big ass stone faces are hard to ignore. I can't keep playing dumb about his identity but he seems a bit smug and I'm playing naive so…

" Woooow the photos definitely not recent is it… hmm… it's ok lord Hokage everyone wants to be young…[in a low mutter] you're clearly a little bit of a scammer though.."

Walking into the office with my new shiny head welt. I'm starting to think acting naive may not be worth it. That one actually hurt.

We walk up the stairs, down a hall, and turn into what looks like a library. In that library sitting amongst a pile of books is blond bombshell. I know who it is but the the fictional portrayal is an injustice to the woman I see before me.

Wide eyed all I could say was "Beautiful…"

She slowly turns to look at me, well to Sarutobi, but the small details don't matter.

Before she can speak I bend to one knee and yell "Hello I am Hyuga Ren and my love for you knows no bounds, it's timeless, endless, limitless. For I know no beauty will ever compare to the one before my eyes. Please marry me!"

The room was left stunned.
