Where's My Gift?

Aina woke up with a slight headache, the last thing she remembered was Ethan's guilt-ridden face before everything went dark. She noticed that she was in her room's bed, obviously put there by Ethan.

"Are you okay?" She heard Ethan's voice when she tried getting up, he had been standing there all along but like always, his presence was almost impossible to detect.

"I'm fine" she reassured with a smile seeing that he was still feeling bad about what happened.

"I'm sorry, if I had been more careful this wouldn't have happened" he approached and sat on the bed.

"It's not your fa-" she started but was interrupted.

"It is, if I just did a little thinking, heck, if I hadn't thought of abruptly cutting off your mana connection, this wouldn't have happened" Ethan started getting angry, not at her but himself. Like he said, had he thought a bit about the dangers of messing with her mana, this wouldn't have happened.

Aina held Ethan's face looking directly in his eyes "Ethan, I'm Fine".

"I'm sorry" Ethan sighed and buried his face on her shoulder.

"It's okay" Aina replied and started playing with his white hair.

"I have to go back" Ethan said, his face still her shoulder. Aina looked outside the window and saw hat it was already dark.

"Hmm" she nodded while still playing with her hair, she didn't want him to leave yet but he has to prepare for tomorrow.

"I got you something" he suddenly raised his head, which disappointed her a bit. Ethan took out the small gift box he had prepared and gave it to her. Aina opened the box to find a beautiful green pendant inside.

"Do you like it? I chose green because it matches your eyes" he said with a smile when her saw how her eyes lit up.

"Yes I do, thank you" she replied and hugged him.

"You know, Frey and Leah gave me a kiss when I gave them theirs" He whispered which caused a light blush to appear on her face.

"Then I won't lose" she said with a face that could've looked determined if not for the blush on her cheeks. She then quickly gave him a peck on the lips before hiding under the covers.

This made Ethan laugh, he got up and went towards the door before stopping.

"Oh, you should try saying 'description' when holding the pendant, I'm sure you'll be surprised" he said.

"Goodnight" he added before leaving.

Aina waited a couple of seconds and when she was sure that he's gone, she got out of the covers with the pendant still in her hand and said "Description".

Ethan woke up the next morning with a satisfied smile on his face, he enjoyed the dates he had with his fiancés, he reminded himself to do it more often.

Anyway, today was the day of the non-compulsory test. It was non-compulsory because you could choose whether to take it or not, it was a test to prepare those who had never seen corrupted beasts to gain the chance to work on their nerves before the final exams.

Most students ignore this exam because of overconfidence and others (those whose parents are mages/nobles) because they had already seen and fought with low level corrupted beasts before.

Ethan on the other hand couldn't go because of his lack of magic. Now you might be wondering, what of going as a knight since he was good with a sword and knights were known to be capable of killing these beasts (even at a high level), you might be right but Ethan wanted the 'flashy' stuff, he didn't want to rush up to a beast, he wanted to cook it (with magic) before it could even notice him.

He went downstairs after getting ready, to join his parents for breakfast. Everyone was happy for him since he was finally achieving his dream, well everyone but Abby, she was barely eating the food with a pout on her mouth with Ethan noticed.

"What's wrong Abby?" he asked.

"Big brother broke his promise to Abby" she answered still maintaining her pout.

"I'm really sorry Abby, big brother will make it up to you when he comes back" Ethan said after his mom ignored him when he looked at her for help.

"How?" Abby asked.

"How about big brother gives you two dates instead of one" he replied.

"Really? You promise?"

"Yes Abby, I promise to take you on two dates when I come back" he answered showing a small smile.

"Yay!" Abby rejoiced, completely dropping her pout.

"I also have an apology gift" Ethan said, picking up the bag he prepared for the exam, since it usually lasts longer. He took out two bracelets and handed the one with a blue gem to Abby and the one with a white gem to his mom.

"Hey, where's mine?" his dad asked.

"Sorry honey, I guess this proves that he loves me more" his mom boasted with a proud face.

"What? Ethan Goldsworth" he stood up and turned to Ethan.

"Yes dad?" Ethan replied with a straight face.

"Where is my gift?" he stretched his hand towards Ethan.

"I'm still designing it, since I want it to look as majestic as dad" Ethan said (lied), still keeping his poker face on.

"Oh is that so? You hear that honey? Mine will be majestic" he sat back down and turned to his wife.

"Tch" Ethan's mom clicked her tongue.

"Anyway, those are communication runes which I created; you can talk to anyone whose mana signature is saved in it" Ethan explained.

"That's so cool, so how do I use it?" Abby asked.

"Think of who you want to talk to and direct your mana into the bracelet" he replied.

Abby did as told and although she felt something 'connecting' she didn't know how it works.

"Now try saying what you want to, you can either say it in your mind or loudly" he added seeing her confused look.

'Big brother is the best' Abby said in her mind and she instantly got a reply from Ethan who she was 'connected' to 'Thank you Abby'.

"Woah, I can hear big brother's voice in my head" she said.

"Yeah and that's how it works, mom you can also try it on dad" he said getting up since he was done with breakfast.

"I'm off" he said.

"Good-luck big brother"

"Goodluck son"

"Go show them how amazing my little Ethan is".

They also got up and escorted him to the door and watched till he got into the car and left.

"Big brother will be fine right?" Abby asked when they returned inside.

"Of course he will be, he's my son after all" Aled replied, easing the tension the ladies were feeling.
