Rise of a Dark Lord

Onyx is a 14 year old orphan girl. In a world where magic is commonplace, she is one of the very few "Louses", people with no magical power whatsoever - or so she thought. One day, after she meets an old man, she realizes she might not be powerless after all. [SYSTEM INITIATING...]

Goblin Lord

Days became weeks, and weeks became months, as the two friends helped each other to attain new summits of magic. She had finally invested her skill points, putting them all in Shadow Aura, since it was her only offensive skill. Thanks to that, the skill's power had drastically increased.

With the guidance of Muck the goblin, Onyx learnt dimensional magic, unlocking the [Inventory] in the system. According to Muck, the Inventory was a powerful dimensional magic technique that allowed its user to store and access items from another dimension, essentially creating a portable storage space that can be accessed at will. However, it was a complex and advanced technique that required a great deal of skill and knowledge to master.

Thankfully, thanks to the [System], Onyx was able to grasp the technique very quickly. When activated, the Inventory appeared as a shimmering portal in front of the user. The portal was typically small, about the size of a doorway, bordered by a faintly glowing, intricate pattern that seemed to shift and change as the user interacts with it. The portal lead into a seemingly endless space, where Onyx could store or retrieve items at any given time.

Properly speaking, the [Inventory] wasn't magic or Mana Arts, since she didn't require any mana to access it. To use the Inventory, the Onyx simply needed to reach into the portal and select the item she wished to retrieve. The item would then be drawn through the portal and into the user's hand, seemingly materializing out of thin air. Similarly, the user could store items in the Inventory by placing them into the portal, where they would be stored safely until needed. After experimenting, Onyx also found that food didn't rot in the Inventory, making the subspace very useful to store perishable goods.

During this time, Onyx also acquired the [Mana Respiration] skill, which allowed her to refill her mana using surrounding mana in the air, and with enough concentration, she could even permanently increase her mana pool. Even though this wasn't a very big increase, its potential was limitless. "I need to kill more mage-type monsters", Onyx thought. Simply by killing one Goblin Mage, her mana had jumped from 10 to 16. Of course, killing Muck was absolutely out of the question, since the goblin was the only friend she ever had.

"Hey Muck, do you know where I could find a mage monster that I could kill to increase my mana ?", she asked. "Hmm... given your current skills, I think you're more than qualified to slay the Goblin Lord.", Muck said seriously. "That would be fine with you ?", Onyx said, surprised. She thought that since Muck was also a goblin, he would feel uncomfortable with her killing other goblins, but that didn't seem to be the case. "Muck isn't like other goblins. Muck hates goblins.", Muck said. "Well, since he got banished, that makes sense... Fair enough !". The girl had decided. She would slay the Goblin Lord.

After spying on the fearsome monster for a few days, Onyx had learnt many things. She had noticed that the Goblin Lord usually stayed in the same room. The Goblin Lord's throne room was a dark, damp, and musty chamber carved out of the solid stone of the dungeon walls. The air was thick with the smell of stale sweat and mildew. At the far end of the room stood a massive stone throne, carved from the same rough-hewn stone as the walls. The throne was decorated with crude carvings of snarling goblin faces and twisted, spiky vines. The seat itself was piled high with ragged furs and pelts, stained with blood and grime.

The walls of the chamber stood lined with rusted iron sconces, each holding a flickering torch. The flickering light casts eerie shadows across the rough-hewn walls, making it seem as if the stones themselves are alive and writhing. In one corner of the room, there was a pile of treasure heaped upon the floor. Golden coins and jewels glitter in the dim light, alongside rusted weapons, broken armor, and other trinkets stolen from hapless adventurers who dared to wander too deep into the goblin's lair

At the foot of the throne, there was a small dais made of stone, where the Goblin Lord sat. The Lord is an imposing figure, with broad, muscular shoulders and thick, knotted arms. Its skin was a sickly green color, mottled with yellowish-brown splotches, and his hair was a wild tangle of dark green locks.

She used her Analysis skill on it and saw the [Goblin Lord LVL.20] was weaker than Muck. The Goblin Lord was a towering figure, standing at over ten feet tall. Its muscular frame was covered in rough, green skin that seemed tougher than any armor. Its face was cruel and twisted, with a pair of beady red eyes that constantly surveyed its domain. Long, pointed ears extended from its head, and a large nose protruded from its face. The monster's mouth was full of sharp teeth. The Goblin Lord's attire fitted its status as the ruler of all goblins. He wore a set of heavy plate armor that adorned with spikes and etchings in the shape of various beasts. The armor covered most of its body, leaving only the head and hands exposed.

On his head, it wore a helmet that shaped like a snarling wolf, complete with gleaming fangs and sharp ears. In its right hand, it wielded a massive cleaver made of pure obsidian. The weapon glowed with a malevolent energy, and it was clear that the weapon was capable of causing immense damage. However, the monster didn't seem very intelligent, and it always roamed the dungeon alone. Perhaps it was overconfident, or perhaps its strength was simply that great.

Onyx decided she would commence the monster's annihilation immediately, and stealthily approached it from behind. Unlike the goblin mages, the Goblin Lord didn't possess any magical skills and wasn't able to see through Onyx's [Shadow Concealment] skill, so it took a major blow from the girls' hunting knife before being aware of her presence, and was slain in a matter of seconds.
