Many of the Su family servants' eyes were fixed on Su Wu, who was growing increasingly agitated. Su Xiao and Su Yan exchanged confused glances. They had arranged with the Jiang family to announce the engagement between Su Wu and Jiang Wan today. Yet, here was Jiang Wan, holding Horn's arm intimately. The most baffling part was Jiang Zhan's lack of reaction—he wasn't reprimanding his daughter but seemed to accept her actions.
Su Wu's aura surged as his frustration grew. Ever since he learned about the engagement, he had seen Jiang Wan as his future wife. Now, seeing her so close to Horn felt like a deep betrayal.
"Horn, get over here and kneel!" Su Wu's voice boomed, his rage unmistakable. Veins bulged on his forehead, a sign of his barely contained fury.
Su Xiao and Su Yan began moving toward Horn, intent on capturing him. But just then, Mr. Jiang emerged from the second car, followed by Mr. Wei and Mr. Qiao.
"What? Does the Su family plan to bully my grandson-in-law? Have you sought my permission?" Mr. Jiang's cold voice echoed as he approached. His presence alone seemed to shake the ground, causing Su Xiao and Su Yan to hesitate, their faces darkening.
Mr. Jiang stood firmly next to Horn, his presence adding weight to the already tense atmosphere. Su Wu's fists clenched as confusion swept through him. His family had struck a deal with Mr. Jiang—why was this all falling apart now? They had even agreed to have the president of the Alchemist Federation refine elixirs for the Jiang family.
Why, then, was Mr. Jiang siding with Horn, whom the Su family had long discarded? Even more, why was he addressing Horn as his "grandson-in-law"?
"Mr. Jiang," Su Xiao said cautiously, trying to defuse the situation. "Is there some misunderstanding between our families? We discussed this—the engagement between Su Wu and Jiang Wan was to be announced today."
Mr. Jiang's eyes were cold as he responded, "Who discussed this? My grandson-in-law is Horn, and no one else."
Su Xiao's face turned grim as the tension escalated, and his gaze shifted uneasily between Mr. Jiang and Horn. Meanwhile, Horn's expression remained steady as he locked eyes with Su Xiao. Memories flooded back to him—when he was just five years old, Su Xiao had stood by coldly as Horn's flesh was cut open to extract his immortal bone. Su Xiao never once showed any compassion, only smiling when Su Wu successfully received Horn's bone.
For Horn, those memories were still vivid, and the pain of betrayal had never faded, even after his ascension to immortality.
Su Xiao, attempting to regain control of the situation, spat, "Old man Jiang, are you really going to oppose the Su family for the sake of an abandoned child?" His voice held barely disguised contempt.
At that moment, a new figure appeared—Horne, the patriarch of the Su family. His arrival intensified the tension. He looked directly at Horn with icy disdain.
"Horn," Horne said in a voice filled with authority, "you still carry the blood of the Su family, whether you like it or not. You will never sever that bond. Now, come here and greet your elders properly."
Horn stood silent, his gaze locked on Horne with no hint of respect or affection.
Horne continued, "After that, you will apologize to your cousin Su Wu. You've overstepped your boundaries by getting close to your sister-in-law. It's a serious offense."
Horn's lip curled into a mocking smile. "What has the Su family taught me? After I turned five, you taught me ruthlessness, bullying, and cruelty. These are the lessons I learned from you."
Horn's words hung in the air, heavy with accusation. "Do you know how it felt to be discarded by your family, treated worse than a dog? Today, I bring you a gift, old dog Su." His voice dripped with contempt.
The red cloth covering the Thorned Soul Coffin lifted, revealing the dark, menacing coffin beneath. Su Wu's rage boiled over. "Horn, you're cursing my grandfather! You will pay for this!"
Horn's fingers twitched, and the lid of the coffin flew open. A horrifying scream erupted from within. Su Yan rushed over, recognizing the voice. Inside, Su Ming—mentally shattered and tortured—lay crumpled in the coffin.
Su Yan's face twisted with rage. "The Jiang family has gone too far. None of you will leave here alive!"
Suddenly, Xia Qingying appeared at the entrance, leaning casually against the door, her beautiful eyes fixed on Horn. She transmitted a message directly to Horn, "It's been a long time."
Horn looked toward her, his expression softening slightly as he recalled the girl he once knew. She had been kind to him when others weren't.
"You shouldn't be here," Xia Qingying continued, her message meant only for him. "You can't change the inevitable, no matter how hard you try. Leave the Jiang family behind. If you do, I'll spare your life."
For a moment, Horn was silent, processing the offer. But he knew better than to be swayed by memories of the past. His resolve remained firm.
The tension between the two factions thickened as the future of both families hung in the balance.
