Chance Meeting

After spending several minutes in deep contemplation, Zhang Mei Xing still did not click the only option available on that certain page. She also did not know if she would ever click it in the future.

Chen Fang got off the bus when it was past midnight. He was tired, yet he also had no intention to bother the ones in the orphanage who might be sleeping sweetly at this hour already. Before arriving, he booked himself one of the cheapest rooms in a local inn.

The next morning swiftly arrived. The twenty-one-year-old boy first stopped by the market to buy some practical treats before heading to the orphanage. The lady director was very delighted to hear about his visit. The kids were also ecstatic since he gave all of them a few candies and bite-size snacks.

It was already daybreak when he left, and the first thing he saw as he scrolled through the messages were complaints from his very few classmates.

"Professor Sun didn't buy your excuse, Chen. You're dead meat, next class!" Xiang Wenyan, another roommate who was also in the same major as him, spoke to him the moment he arrived in the dorms.

Chen Fang just nodded. "It's okay. I'll just take remedial lessons or extra projects if Old Sun wants me to."

"Why did you go missing by the way? Is it because of your ex?"

"No."

"Are you sure?" probed Xiang Wenyan again. "I heard from—"

'Why do strange rumors always reach the people around me?"

Chen Fang grimaced. "Stop speaking nonsense. It's already past 8 pm. I'm going out again to eat."

Sympathy showed in the eyes of his roommate. Maybe to this guy, Chen Fang merely appeared to be acting tough. Boys were always like this, not as open as girls when it came to their actual feelings.

Chen Fang helplessly shook his head as he invited this classmate of his to dinner. "You coming with me?"

"Sure. My treat. We're not usually hanging out, but tonight, why not? Should I call the other two? They must be coming back now from their evening classes."

Chen Fang was actually in quite a good mood for managing to get in touch with the people he wanted to meet the most, so he nodded. Then after thinking for a moment, he suggested, "Maybe we should just go to a KTV bar."

"I also have no problem with that."

In his past life, this was the day Chen Fang got into a farcical fight with those delinquents sent by Long Lingqing's new boyfriend. Those people made him look like he beat them up first. The whole thing was recorded and the delinquents were hospitalized. The incident resulted in his expulsion.

In this life, since he did not follow the same scenario, Chen Fang felt like he could relax a bit. A day already passed and since he purposely avoided staying in the university premise today, he should be fine.

But of course, he did not truly let his guard down. Qin Li was not a good person and even if Chen Fang had not heard a lot of bad rumors about this guy, the fact that Qin Li could destroy one's future for the most minor of reasons meant he was quite the piece of sh*t.

'I didn't disturb Long Lingqing last night, but that guy must have been embarrassed by my attitude when she broke up with me. I can't be less vigilant.'

When they went out of the dorms, Chen Fang wore a cap which he did not take off even after getting into one of the KTV rooms. He also kept his head low most of the time, quietly observing through the semi-transparent glass wall whenever a new customer walked in.

"Old Chen, you're really acting so weird since yesterday." Perhaps, his four-eyed roommate Gong Weisheng could not stand Chen Fang's behavior anymore, so he spoke up.

"Yeah. Acting paranoid," added the most handsome lad of their dorm. His name was Zhu Donghai, from the College of Archeology, the only guy who was not in the same college as them, Electrical Engineering.

Chen Fang just laughed their remarks off, not explaining anything. Thankfully, his roommates were more interested in the food, in singing, and in the sexily dressed women occasionally passing by their booth.

Time passed and after everyone had their fun singing and drinking. Two people took care not to get drunk in order to drag their wasted friends back.

Chen Fang was one of them.

"We have to be grateful it's weekend already," said Gong Weisheng, shaking his head. The guy then glared at Chen Fang, "It's your idea to drink outside, right? How are we going to sneak back without getting caught by the guards?"

Chen Fang answered honestly, "Actually, it would be hard since we have two big pieces of baggage."

The four-eyed student gave him a dissatisfied glance again, seemingly telling. 'So you actually knew?'

To this, Chen Fang replied, "How about we just throw them in a hotel room and then wait for a funny misunderstanding to happen once they wake up?"

One could say liquor was truly a magical monster that could bring out the hidden beast and madman in every person. Even though Zhang Mei Xing's examinee was not too drunk to not be able to walk, his mind was no longer as sober. He was even laughing at the evil idea that just came out of his mouth.

Gong Weisheng burst into laughter too, but still said, "Stop that, you fool. Even if you're heartbroken, I won't condone you doing weird stuff."

"I'm not heartbroken!" Chen Fang argued, looking offended. He looked down and quietly whispered to himself, "Who would be heartbroken over such a woman?"

Several minutes later, the two men gave up and just got four rooms in a nearby hotel. After tossing his friend into one of the rooms, he immediately went out and headed to his own room.

However, when he was just three steps away from the door, Chen Fang ran into people he did not want to see right now.

From the elevator that suddenly opened, two passengers stepped out. Long Lingqing and Qin Li, the couple behind his desperate situation in his previous life.
