Time Skip & Eragon Begins

Oromis and I decided to set up a training ground behind his hut so we could be close enough to keep an eye on the Riders but far enough from Ellesmera that nobody would learn the Rider secrets.

My wedding with Arya was celebrated for a full month.

The only other thing that happened was I found a way to increase my magic capacity. A simple spell that translated to 'try to increase my magic capacity without harming myself'. It wasn't fast, but after a month my capacity doubled. This led me to try compressing it. Due to the wonders of the Ancient Language, this also succeeded. Less magic used for more effect with a bonus of increased magic regeneration. What will years of doing this do for my dragon and I? I guess only time will tell.

Time skip

Three and a half years later

"Arya only left yesterday and you're already gloomy." Oromis said.

"She IS my better half Oromis. I'll be happy when she decides to stop transporting that egg herself." I responded.

"She most likely won't stop until the dragon chooses a Rider." he said.

"Sigh. I know." I said.

How could I tell him Arya was going to be kidnapped and the egg was going to fall into the hands of Broms son, Eragon? And I couldn't do anything about it unless I wanted to get the Betrayer involved much sooner than I was comfortable with. No, the soonest I was comfortable getting involved was the battle in the Dwarven capital. At least I could kill those damned twins and save the son of Morzan from a fate he does not deserve.

...

It was only a month later that we received word that Arya was killed before leaving Du Weldenvarden. The only way I could act without seeming suspicious was to start patrolling the area she went missing. I knew I wouldn't find anything, but I had to keep up appearances.

After a few months, Oromis told me he found Arya using his scrying skills. She was in the Beor Mountains with a deadly poison coursing through her veins. But the Dwarven healers would save her. The only problem was there was a massive army of Urgals and Kings Men marching on the Dwarven Capital, Farthen Dur.

"If you go alone, you will make it there before the fight starts. But if you take any of the younglings (younger Dragons and/or their Riders), you won't arrive until an hour into the battle. And that's if you leave NOW." Oromis told me.

"I'm going with you, Senior Evanyar." The decision was unanimous, all seven junior Riders and their Dragons, were going with me.

"You have exactly one, count it ONE, hour to get ready before we leave. If you aren't there when I head out, I'm not waiting and Senior Oromis will make sure you stay here. Am I understood?" I asked.

""Yes sir!"" was the only thing I heard before they all ran out of the room.

"Brother Evanyar, are you sure leaving is the right thing to do?" Oromis asked hesitantly.

"No. But my wife is alive and I won't leave her to fight an army alone. Just be sure to tell mother a believable lie. Maybe that in my grief I decided to go spend some time in my clans valley and wish to be left alone for awhile. I'm one of the only people she seeks out since Arya's disappearance." I said after some thought.

"That will work. Just remember, if the Betrayer shows up, do everything you can to get away. I told you that I'm sure he's using Eldunari to fuel the magic he uses. That's why he was so strong back then." Oromis reminded me.

"I will be careful, I promise." I responded. "I still need to keep an eye on the younglings since their Dragons are barely adults themselves."

((Don't forget, Saphira is 2-3 years old at the end of the fourth book. At this time the younling Dragons are four while Ēborisk is five and a half. Saphira, at this time, is only six months old, just breathing her first fire) We aren't given an exact timeline in the books so I'm improvising here. Give my AU a break)

"Ēborisk is already half the size of Glaedr. We're going to have to crawl for them to keep up." I said dejectedly.

"You're going to have to tell me how you did that. I'm sure you didn't do anything dark, but it does worry me that he grew so quickly. He shouldn't have reached that size until he was more than a century old." Oromis said.

So I told him. I even told him how I added to the spell to make it passively increase my magic quantity and quality.

"Well. Since it clearly states without harming yourself, there's nothing wrong with it. I assume Ēborisk grew so quickly because his larger magic capacity caused his body to grow due to the excess magic flowing through his body. This information should stay at the high table level." Oromis said after some thought.

"I agree. That's why I never told anyone but Arya. And I only told her because..." I said before Oromis interrupted me.

"I know why, just keep it from the others. Judging by her size, Arya only recently started using this spell. How did she react when you told her you've been doing this for years?" he asked.

"Sigh. I slept here for a month." I said.

"Ah. So that's why." Oromis said with a far off look. "It's easier to be single than to have a female in my life, it would seem."

"Sometimes. But the good times far outweigh the bad." I said as I walked out the door to get ready to leave. "Oh. Before I leave, take the eggs and Eldunari. If anything DOES happen, I want them safe with you."

...

"Alright. Everyone warp the light around yourselves and your Dragons, then we're leaving immediately." I said as Ēborisk took flight.

'This is going to be a long journey with these slow pokes holding us back.' Ēborisk said to me.

'I know. But can you imagine the looks on everyone's faces when eight Dragons fly over the mountains and blast the enemy with fire?' I asked with a giggle.

'Heh. With the reaction anyone should have when a dragon is present. Respect and awe.' was all Ēborisk said as we flew in the direction of Farthen Dur.

'I'm coming Arya.' I thought to myself.
