U.S. Army Intelligence (Mis) Report

Dated: May 12, 1968

Title: Report on the 'Transmigrater' incident, 1960.

Document Number: PTYX-8766-777373773-65557-WWN

The following is a taped interview with Diya Agarwal (26), a teacher in charge of the fourth-grade B class at the public school in (deleted) town,( deleted) county.

Materials related to the interview can be accessed using application number PTYX-722-SH-118.

Impression of the interviewer: Diya Agarwal is an attractive, young woman. Intelligent and highly responsible. She is still slightly shocked, though, by the incident. As she searched her memory, she grew very tense at times, and whenever that happened, she had a tendency to speak slowly. She seems to have problems related to religious aspects.

I think it must be around 10 in the morning when I see a silver light far up in the sky. A brilliant flash of silver. That's right, it was definitely light reflecting off a metal surface. The light moved very slowly in the sky from east to west. We all thought it was an airplane.

According to military reports, there were no recorded aircraft flying above (deleted) the city around 10 a.m.

But as I clearly saw, so did my children in my class. All of us thought it had to be an airplane like the B-29.

We do not have much information about airplanes. We were still recovering from the partition.

Were you born in that region?

No, I was born in a separate area of a now-deleted country. I was born into a rich family with decent influence, but due to being Hindu, we were chased out by the Muslim population. At first, we thought, due to the influence, we were safe, but after the kidnapping of my cousin, we spared no effort in abandoning the nation. From my heart, I am (delete).

So, you were safely able to escape to (deleted)?

Yes, sir, that day was the most horrific day. The innocent people were dying with each passing day. It was the day when we Hindus realized that both Muslims and Hindus may never be able to cooperate. Some of my family members also died.

While the entire country was celebrating independence, we were moaning for the dead.

So after partition, you were able to get a job in (deleted) school?

My relatives in the deleted country still had some influence, and I was one of the few educated people in the country who was willing to teach. Of course, if we did not count the Christian missionaries.

If you are comfortable answering, you seem to discriminate based on religion.

No, sir, I respectfully disagree. I have gone through some major problems in life due to the religious conflict and lost most of my friends, but I still do not think it's the religion that's problematic. I have no problem with Islam or Christianity, but with the people who spread violence in the name of religion...

Can you describe the incident that happened on November 7, 1958?

Yes. In my class, there were few children, the reason being that the country had just gained independence and the people did not have any money to waste on school. I had around 15 children. 10 of them are from major cities like (deleted), whose names now change to (deleted).

The other five were, like me, from (deleted) countries.

You mentioned that five of the children in your class were from outside (delete) countries. Did they get along with the other children?

In my class, at least they did. I believe they did. There was obviously some difference at the start, but after some time, they started to get along really well.

I'd like you to describe, in as much detail as you can, the spot where you took your class that day.

It was a hill we often went to on outings. It was shaped like an upside-down bowl. It was a short walk from school to the west and not steep at all. So pretty much everyone can climb.

The glittering sky did remind us of the great war, but it was a passing tale.

It was soon after you observed the airplane-like object that you went into the woods, correct?

Yes, it was just after five minutes that we reached the top, and others took the other ten minutes to rest. I reminded the children of the rules that they needed to follow on the trip. We need to be careful on trips like this. There is no danger, but we still do not know what happens. I usually do a head count to be more careful.

After resting and reminding them of the rules, I let them roam free for a while.

We usually rest there because of the planned field that was created there on the mountain.

It was about three minutes in when I noticed three of my children's bodies lying over the grass. My first thought was that they ate something pretty. We do remind them to not put or touch anything until it is safe, but they are children after all. They tend to forget about things like this.

I ran toward the body and checked on their bodies. Their bodies were like limp, empty shells. It was like there was no energy left in the body, but after slapping their checks, I decided to rush them back to school.

I can't carry three children with me, so I get up to look for other kids, but then the sight I saw was horrifying.

All my children—all of the fifteen children in my class—fell down. I panicked but quickly decided it was not time to be indecisive. So, I quickly gathered all my children and put them side by side. It was to make sure no incident happened to them individually, and then I rushed to the nearest house for help.
