Thirst for power - 2

The following morning, Deen and Nova wandered through a museum in Rome, their attire inadvertently understated but amusingly out of place among the art and history.

It almost seemed they were doing it on purpose.

Deen wore a plain white T-shirt and jeans, looking as though he had just rolled out of bed for a casual outing. Nova, on the other hand, had opted for a basic black dress, which would have been fine for any occasion except a visit to a museum.

Aside that they continued to Keely observe everything in the museum.

"Do you sense anything? I'm not picking any Cosmic Energy from the trinkets here… all that is here is faint magical energy." Deen moved closer to Nova and whispered.

"You're right, I'm picking the same here."

Nova whispered back. They continued the tour in the public museum. Looking left and right up and down trying to locate any useful artifacts that might contain Cosmic Energy.

After hours of searching they walked out of the museum their heads lowered in disappointment. Deen seemed more exhausted than Nova for some reason.

"Your attention span is something else. It's a miracle you actually get anything done… ever."

Nova criticised Deen, making a sigh.

"You're imagining things, but if you want me to repeat myself. I do things that I deem progressive… What a waste of time. Why don't we grab something to eat?"

Deen asked.

"Sure but not like we actually need to eat to begin with, we are immortal. You like wasting money don't you?"

Nova followed Deen as he seemed to suddenly take charge when food was the mission.

Not long after, Deen and Nova were seated in a small restaurant enjoying their meal.

Seated in opposite directions, they dug in some food they weren't certain what it was. It was tasty so they ate anyway

Dishes at the time were so advanced and evolved it was hard to pinpoint specific flavours from whence the food was made from.

"Yes, I saw him! He was standing right there! I couldn't believe my own eyes!" A man seated with his buddies not very far from the Nova and Deen said to his other buddy.

"Come, don't fool me with your made up lies. Guys!! He say the holy one!" His other buddy responded.

"Rudolph, you said you were gonna pay for the meal… don't start today again."

His buddy added.

"Come one guys! He was the real deal, a true God in all his glory!!"

He sounded even more certain of himself going as far as to demonstrate with his arms.

"Okay, you indeed saw God. So what?"

"Don't you guys understand?! We don't have to pay for our meals anyone… everything…."

Before adding more he was interrupted.

"Waiter! Come and pick up the cheque for this one! He's paying everything for all 5 of us!"

One other of his buddies ruined everything. The conversation dragged on but eventually the man paid the money.

....

….

Deen who had been keenly listening turned to face Nova with a face filled with hope.

"Nova do you…"

"Hah… no! That's just a baseless rumour. I mean God, Seriously? And even if it was an actual god, there is no good reason to engage one now as weak as we are, let alone steal power from them."

"But… darn it! You're right."

Deen gave up, or so it seemed. He was the first to finish his meal.

"I wanna use the bathrooms, I'll be right back."

Deen said already standing up to leave.

"Sure." Nova said but looked at Deen with a hint of suspicion.

The restaurant was fairly clouded as Deen to just a few seconds to disappear into the background. Soon he was walking outside following the group of people which one of them was claiming to have seen God.

They seemed like a bunch of strong well built individuals but that didn't stop Deen from slowly stalking them.

They engaged in small talks shouting every now and then.

After several turns the group of 5 started slowly dispersing, from 4 to 2 then to one.

Deen's target now was walking alone. Seeing the great opportunity, Deen sped up and blocked the man's path.

"Hello mister, I'm Deen! Do you mind telling me where you saw God and how he looked like?"

The man frowned a bit but looking at Deen's high teenage appearance he let his guard down.

"Kid, I don't have time for you. Moved aside… that was just a story I came up with it on the fly."

"Come on… I know you saw something. What was it? I can buy you a drink if you want want."

Deen said creeping in closer. His expression turned very serious and cutely curious.

"Am…."

The man hesitated but he eventually made a sigh yielding. Deen seemed to smile seeing the man finally about to speak.

"Listen boy, you shouldn't be hear this but since you're buying I'll tell you a little about it. Just next to the south of Little hill at the floor there was a figure there. It wore pure white clothes and was holding a golden staff. I say it only for a moment then the next second I blinked the figure had vanished."

The two remained silent for a while. Deen seeming to expect more.

"And?"

"And nothing else, now about that beer you promised."

"Yeah Yeah…let's go." The two went on to buy the drinks and later Deen was walking towards the direction the man had claimed to have witnessed the mysterious entity.

"I wish I could fly but with all these people…" Deen sucked it up and walked. He also got to see more of the shrank city of Rome. Traces of old Rome were not there anymore.

"Back in the day, Rome used to be a splendor of amazing ancient ruins and some really stunning architecture… I think but all that is left is nothing…"

Deen sighed as he traversed through the town. He also made a couple of stops buying things to snack on like fruits and real snacks.

Eventually he arrived at the edge of the city of Rome. Just a few more minutes and he would arrive at the foot of Little Hill.
