Chapter 15

After almost four more months, Renaes dreams were getting more vivid. She remembered each dream, she had a harder time forgetting details she didn't want to remember.

"Rae, wake up." Renae jerked awake. She looked around trying to find who woke her, till her eyes landed on him.

"T-Ty..Tyler?" Renae was about to cry as she looked at him.

"Rae, I don't have much time. We need to talk and quickly." Tyler rushed her to stand up. "Rae, I didn't kill myself, I never would've left you by yourself." Tyler was visibly scared.

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" A voice boomed in the darkness.

"Oh no..I gotta go. I love you Rae." He kissed her cheek before vanishing into the darkness.

-

Renae woke up in a cold sweat. She looked around, the sun was barely shining in her window. She looked at her clock, it was set to go off in a minute. She rolled her eyes as she sat up and waited for it to go off. After dismissing the clock and getting ready for school and her breakfast with Jarrod, she rushed out the door to get to school before Jarrod or Braxton had a chance. She ran all the way around the building to see a large group of night students and teachers Renae hadn't seen before with police officers swarming amongst them.

"What happened?" Renae walked up to a man in a suit with a badge showing on his belt that was standing writing in his notepad.

"There was an accident. Can you tell me your name and where you were between the times of two and six am?" He turned around not lifting his eyes from his notepad.

"I was sleeping? I'm apart of the campus security. I went to bed around twelve thirty ish. My name is Renae Riley." Renae looked up at him and recognized him from somewhere.

"Rae?" He looked up from his notepad. "I-it's me. Jeromy Rhymer. Tylers dad." As he smiled, Renaes heart sunk. They said nothing as they embraced each other. Renae had a hard time recognizing him as he was hardly ever around, he was a lead detective in homicide so his job kept him away from home most days.

"Wait, what are you doing here?" Renae pulled back remembering his career.

"Well... you know my line of work. We think someone murdered a student but was sloppy trying to make it look like suicide. I shouldn't be telling you but I'm worried knowing how it could have been you." Renae froze remembering her dream and what Tyler told her.

"Who was it? Who passed?" She asked softly.

He looked at Renae then met his shoes on the ground "It was Kasen." He looked back up expectinging a reaction.

"I can't believe this.. I didn't know him but still." She bit her lip before matching his eyes "Sir, I think somebody killed Tyler too. I'm sorry I know I have no place to, but I had this dream. He was in some kind of trouble. I woke up before I could ask him anything but I know it was more then just a dream and I know he never would have done that to himself, he wasn't suicidal."

"I know... I'm not allowed to talk about it. Here's my number. Call me sometime. I need to get back to work okay?" He nodded his head before he turned away. Renae looked at the card and fought her tears as she tucked it into her pocket.

"Oh thank god I found you." Jarrod grabbed Renae and hugged her. "Come with me, I need you to do something." He grabbed her arm and pulled her into the building then to his office. As Jarrod closed the door behind him Renae saw James sitting in one of the chairs.

"James, what are you doing here?" Renae asked as she sat on the couch.

"There was a murder in the school. One of the night students to be exact. Since you two are patrolling the night students, you need to be watching everyone like they're going to kill you. I mean it, this is one of the worst cases we've had in over two hundred years." Jarrods hands still shook as he sat on his chair and hid his hands under his desk.

"You do realize it's just the two of us right?" Renae asked.

"I do, which is why, I decided to add a few more volunteers to the campus security. Each of you will be training two more people. You two will have seniority but these campus security will be your seniors in the fact that they're closer to my age than yours."

"Do they have kids here?" Renae asked leaning forward.

"No actually. They don't. They're friends of the council so you both need to be on your best behavior." Jarrods hands were still shaking under his desk.

"Wait, do you really think that's a good idea for me... not being a vampire?" James asked.

"You're basically handing a wolf to a hunter. What makes you think this is in any way smart?" Renae stood up angry.

"James will be working with a wolf himself. He's a friend of the council and it's nothing to worry about. I still expect Renae to show her respect and James to show his respect to each others trainees."

"Why are there even students in the campus security? Everytime I ask I get redirected or ignored." Renae asked walking closer to Jarrod.

"The council won't let a lot of people on the campus security because of what happened two hundred years ago. It's something that I was able to put together a few years ago when James saved K-" Jarrods eyes jolted "He saved another student from a fight. That's all you need to know. Now if you two would be so kind. I have a few more meetings. Class for today's day students are dismissed and night students won't be happening tonight so the two of you have the night off. I'll see you both later." He waved them both out before he grabbed his phone. Renae and James walked out of his office and headed for the main doors.

"So wait, do you know what happened two hundred years ago?" Renae asked James as they walked out.

"Not something you should talk to me about. Ask your dad." He pulled out his phone and began texting.

"What happened a few years ago? When you saved a student from a fight?" She continued pestering him.

"Listen. We don't mix. Your dad started this program because I saved your sister from a nasty fight with a day student and-"

"Woah, what? My what?" Renae asked stopping in front of him.

"What do you mean?" He asked genuine.

"You just said you saved my sisters life." Renae tried to hide her body quaking.

"Yeah. She's a night student... or was. She was having a fight with a day student, well more like he was trying to force himself in her. She was almost dead when I first found her. He got kicked out and she's safe and happy now. Didn't Mr Riley tell you?" James walked around Renaes small frame. Just before he made it to the door, he turned to look back at her. "Did you want to see her?"

"Please. Take me to her now." Renaes mind was boggled to say the least. Her heart skipped beats as she followed James to the night student dorms.

-

"Are you going to open it?" James smirked looking at Renae and the door.

"Why can't you open it?" She glared at him.

"Well, because most of us here can't. If you're a vampire, you can't open it without being at least three hundred years old and since wolves live here. Only they can open it. I may be a wolf but I wanted to see if you could open it since you're kind of both." He pushed her closer to the door.

"Alright. Just give me a second... I haven't seen my sister in a few years." She took the longest breath her lungs would let her take and exhaled just as slowly. She grabbed the door handle and wasn't surprised when she felt her hand begin to shock. Enough it send a pain all the way up her arm. She jumped back to get rid of the feeling as she shook her hand.

"That must be the spell sensing your vampire side. If you were fully a vampire, that would've roasted your ass." He tried to hide his amusement.

As he was getting ready to grab the door, Renae grabbed his hand. Persistence pushed her to grab the door once more and feel the shock as she pulled open the doors. She was met with night students walking around and sitting on the furniture inside.

"Come on. She's in room five-three-zero-three." James pushed past Renae as he headed for the stairs.

"W-wait for me." Renae said, still feeling her arm tingling. She ran trying to catch up to him.

Renae had underestimated the size of the doors as they hiked all the stairs. With each step Renae searched her brain, thinking of what she would say to her sister., her heart would pound that much harder the closer she got.

"Hurry up. Sooner we get up there, the better. Most of these kids makes me sick to my stomach." James whispered to Renae after they passed a group of students descending the stairs.

Renae was mad at herself as she remembered thinking there couldn't have been more then three hundred rooms per building but being inside, she knew she was wrong. Once they finally reached their needed floor, they walked the corridor, Renae kept looking between her feet and the rooms they passed. She noticed that the further they went, the numbers on the door were decreasing. Five-three-zero-six. She slowed down incredibly as her heart gave her the feeling it was about to stop completely.

"Hey, are you okay?" James asked turning around to see Renae grabbing her chest.

"I-I'm fine. I think I'm just having a bit of an anxiety attack." She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. "I'm okay. Let's go." She nodded her head as she walked past James till she met the dorm room number. She stood there staring at the door. James leaned against the wall and watched Renaes inner conflict. He waited patiently as she slowly picked up her hand till it was an inch away from the door. She squeezed her other hand against her chest as she finally managed to knock. They waited only a mere minute before Kelly answered the door.

"Rae?"

Renae searched her empty mind to say something, Kelly looked at Renae like a lost puppy when Renae finally let it out "Miss me?" She smiled with a single tear shining in her eye. She wanted to hug her. She'd missed her sister for years and she finally had her in front of her, she wanted to express her love but couldn't move from her spot just outside her dorm.

"How'd you find me? How'd you get here? How did you even get in? I thought you took after dad? Wait, where is Dad?" She was just as skinny as Renae had been when she first showed up at the school. Renae knew the questions would never end so she just continued to listen.

"Let us in babe. We can talk inside." James stepped behind Renae and pushed her in. Kelly moved out of the way and closed the door after they made their way in.

"You know, I'm fine. Happy even. When were you going to tell me? If at all. Were you just waiting till you could leave on your own and never actually look back? That's what your good at. Abandoning people." Renae was staring at Kelly, no control over what she was saying.

"What?" James asked looking confused.

"How can you even call him dad? You didn't care about him enough to stay with him and make sure he's alright. What gives you the right to ask me about anything?" Renae continued to speak.

"Okay, angers out. Take a breath and cut her some slack." James asked grabbing Kellys hand.

"Excuse you?!" Renaes voice was now yelling as she went into full attack mode.
