Chapter Seventy-Six: It's Been Awhile

It had been a week since Alex fought the entirety of the combat class singlehandedly.

Since then, he and Austin have been helping get the entire class into shape for real combat. Austin helped them with the basics, while Alex beat the basics into them until they got the hang of some things. Though, except for Amelia, the entire class pretty much wanted Alex dead for what they described as torture, he held little back from them, showing what real combat is like.

The Headmaster had learned of this but allowed it anyway; in fact, he even suggested teachers from every year start doing something similar, which caused quite a stir among the school. However,  there was something else happening in the school that had everyone's attention.

The Headmaster had called for every first and second year to meet in the auditorium for an assembly, which had many of them curious, but many second years started to figure out what was going on.

Ren, Claire, Raven, Freya, Seraphina, and Amelie had all met up at the assembly and sat together and watched the Headmaster finally walk onto the stage.

The Headmaster walked up to a podium, cleared his throat, and started his speech: "Hello, first-year and second-year students of this academy, two things we will be talking about today. The first thing is that it's time for the annual trip each class takes. This trip will take many of you into the wild, where you will live in the woods for a week and be paired with your mentors. Now more than likely, you will be face-to-face with monsters that are around the woods. Nothing insanely life-threatening, but never underestimate any monster, even something as simple as a slime. Always treat it as a threat. I also know many of you have been learning about and being trained for live combat; remember every single one of those lessons."

Everyone in the auditorium started talking; there was both excitement and fear from the chatter. After all, not everyone here had even seen a monster before, and now they might be forced to. Alex didn't really react to the news given by the headmaster. He didn't see it as anything more than a trip where he would be dealing with weak monsters and sleeping in a tent. He did like the idea of being around his family and friends, but otherwise he could take it or leave it.

However, Claire, Raven, Freya, and Seraphina had other reactions; they all saw it as an opportunity to spend time with Alex, though some were jealous of Freya since she was his mentor and knew she would be spending the most time around him.

The headmaster continued his speech "Now for the second bit of news we have. Surprisingly, today we have a transfer student."

This sent a lot of the students into chatter; it wasn't often they would receive a transfer student this early in the year.

"She is transferring from the Iris Girls Academy, also located here in the capital, and will be joining our second-year class. Everyone, please welcome Sophia Goldburn."

As soon as Alex heard that name, his eyes widened.

A beautiful blonde-haired girl with crimson-red eyes walked out from behind the curtain and bowed in front of everyone in the crowd.

Murmurs from the crowd started to spread throughout the auditorium.

"She's so beautiful."

"I wonder why she transferred."

"Who cares? This school just got another beautiful girl."

However, Alex and Raven both ignored everything and only thought about who was on stage; after all, they were the only ones who recognized that name among their group.

Sophia Goldburn, the girl Alex was supposed to marry back when he was a child. She looked older now, but Alex could immediately recognize those crimson-red eyes. It was her, older and more mature. She was decently tall for her age and had quite a beautiful figure with defined curves; her chest was a perfect size, not too big but not too small at the same time, and the stockings she was wearing complimented her thighs very well, which was noticed by the male students who could no longer stay silent.

Raven was not happy with her appearance; even though she knew back when they were kids that Alex would go over to her house sometimes, she didn't know how they acted around each other.

"Would she even remember Alex?" Raven thought to herself.

It was then that Sophia started to search the crowd until she saw someone with all-too-familiar black hair and purple eyes. Her former betrothed Alex Blackwood.

She hadn't heard anything about him since the night the Blackwood's family estate caught fire until recently, when she was told someone extremely powerful who could wield purple lightning was the top-ranked first-year student at Xymaris Magic Academy. She assumed it was him but didn't think he would remember her.

Sophia looked at Alex and smiled, signaling that she did remember him.

"Shit...she remembers" Raven thought to herself, sighing.

Meanwhile, the other girls in the group were very confused as to why she was smiling in their direction, until they turned their heads to Raven, who now had her hand covering her face, and Alex's surprised face.

All of them had a similar reaction.

"What's got them so wound up?"

After the assembly had ended, everyone walked together into the courtyard, and they started to discuss what happened.

"So about this trip..." Amelie tried to say but was interrupted by Claire.

"No, screw that. Who was she?" Claire said getting frustrated. After all, she had never met this girl who seemed to know Alex.

"Do you want the long story or the short one?" Alex said.

"Just the truth." Freya said on the side.

However, to the surprise of them all, another voice chimed in.

"Alex, here is my fiancé."

Everyone turned their heads to where the voice came from; it was Sophia who had followed the group all the way into the courtyard.

"Hey Alex, it's been awhile." Sophia said.

Everyone was stunned by her appearance until Raven noticed something in her sentence.

"Wait...what the hell do you mean by "is my fiancé"?"
