56. First Encounter

Holly and Irene watched as a small silver ball appeared in Lazarus's before it floated above their heads and spun rapidly, releasing small bursts of light in the area.
It was much more apparent than either of the two had expected; for a scout mission, they had expected to be able to complete it stealthily, but they were mistaken.
As Paul had warned, the spectacle was brief, lasting no more than 10 seconds. But in that short span, the light dissipated, the orb returned to Lazarus's hand, and the sound of approaching voices filled the air.
"What is going on over here? You think there is a mini-boss around here or something?"
After the high-pitched, likely female voice, a voice that seemed to come from a younger man rang out.
