CHAPTER 13

"Hello,is this Mrs Diana ?,the voice asked when Diana picked her phone,she wondered who was calling her in the middle of the night."this is from Lincoln hospital,your mother and brother was rushed in here,there was a fire outbreak in the house and their lives are in danger,we need you to come and identity them and sign some documents so we can proceed with their treatment the voice said and hung up.

Diana rushed out of the house without changing from her nightwear,she quickly sent a message to Alex and drove to the hospital with full speed,when she got to hospital,she went to the front desk and asked about her mother and brother.the receptionist directed her to the office of the doctor in charge of her mother's case.

"How is my mother and brother ?,she said as soon as she barged into the doctor's office without knocking,and who are you ?,the doctor asked.

"My mother and brother was brought to the hospital,I was told it was a fire incident,oh the doctor said,Mrs Beatrice right ?.Yes doctor that is my mother.

The doctor asked her to sit down,"I don't want to sit down,I want to know what happened to my family?,she said. I am sorry Mrs Diana we lost your mother and brother,it was too late by the time they were brought here,they had inhaled a lot of smoke and they had first-degree burns.

"No,Diana screamed out loudly it can't be,I still saw them yesterday",how did it happen,what fire,she asked no one in particular. "I am not so sure but there is a police man outside interrogation the witness", the doctor said.

"From what we detected when the fire was put out,there was a pot of soup on fire which was burning,a cloth caught fire and it spread to the curtain in the kitchen,when the rescue team went inside they found your mother and brother sleeping in their room beside them we found empty bottles of wine which means they slept off forgetting that it was their fault,we are actually sorry for the loss,we hope you can take heart but we still need you to identify their bodies".The police man explained.

Diana followed him to the morgue where her mother and brother bodies were,the officer removed the sheet from their bodies,the bodies were burnt beyond recognition but for the pendant hanging on the bodies,she wouldn't have known that those bodies belonged to her families.

She was about to collapse but a hand held her from falling when she looked up,she saw Alex holding her tightly,Diana was crying profusely,she couldn't believe that her mother and brother were gone just like that.

"Alex,they can't be dead, please wake them up,we still spoke yesterday",Diana was not listening to Alex's words,she was just not accepting it that they were dead.

"calm down Diana,you are creating a scene here,I know it hurts but there is nothing anybody can do to bring them back to live,you have to be strong for yourself and our son".Alex said as he hugged Diana.

Alex thanked the police officer and pulled Diana out of the morgue,he told her to calm herself down and went with her to sign the documents,since they didn't have any other family apart from her,Diana fixed the burial to the next day.
