She had to seek forgiveness from her grandmother and make a sincere promise to change, to become a much better version of herself.
With these thoughts in mind, Iris made her way to her grandmother's room, her heart pounding with nervousness. As she stood outside the door, she took a deep breath to steady herself.
Gently knocking on the door, Iris called out, "Grandma, it's me, Iris. May I come in?"
There was a brief pause before her grandmother's soft voice replied, "Of course, dear. Come in."
Pushing open the door, Iris entered the room, feeling a surge of emotions. Her grandmother was sitting in her favorite armchair near the French window, smiling warmly.
"Good morning, my dear Iris. What brings you here?" asked Cassandra, her eyes filled with concern and love. "Are you hungry?" She remembered that her granddaughter had not eaten since last night. However, instead of receiving an answer, her granddaughter began to cry, causing Cassandra to wince.
"What happened, dear?" Cassandra said.
Tears welled up in Iris' eyes as she took a step forward. "Grandma, I'm so sorry for how I've acted all along. I know I've been thoughtless and selfish, taking you for granted. But I promise you, from this moment on, I will change. I will become the Iris you deserve, a granddaughter you can be proud of."
"Y-You remember? Your memories return?" Cassandra feels a surge of happiness.
"Yes, Grandma. I remember everything. And I promise you from now on, I will become the new Iris, your sweet and caring little Iris..." She said between her sobs.
In her previous life, Iris had never experienced the warmth of having a family, and since the moment she had met Cassandra, she had regarded her as her true grandmother, the only family she had now. This was the first time she had ever felt such emotions. It felt strange, yet she couldn't suppress her sadness. Perhaps her tears couldn't be held back because she carried the memories of a young Iris.
Cassandra's smile grew wider as she stood from her seat and extended her arms, welcoming Iris into a warm embrace. "Oh, my sweet little Iris, I forgive you. We all make mistakes, but what matters is that you're willing to learn and grow. I believe in you, my dear..."
Feeling the weight of guilt lifting off her shoulders, Iris returned the embrace, a sense of gratitude and love filling her heart. She will make sure to make this old woman proud of her.
After a few moments of embracing each other in joy, Iris's stomach finally let out a growl. Cassandra released her from the hug and chuckled, observing her beautiful granddaughter looking embarrassed before her.
"My dear, go change your clothes. Granny will make breakfast for you!" Cassandra exclaimed, hurrying towards the kitchen.
Iris dashed to the second floor with light steps and swiftly freshened up, changing her clothes. Just as she was about to leave her bedroom, her gaze fell on an object that suddenly appeared in her hand.
"Huh!? Why did this black phone appear when I didn't mention it?" She immediately places her thumb on the screen to activate it.
Before long, Gavriel's face appeared on the device, causing her to nearly trip in surprise. His handsome face was accompanied by a piercing gaze filled with what seemed like anger. He looked displeased.
"Uh, good morning, Senior Gavriel!" she stammered, her voice barely audible as she attempted to force a smile.
"Senior Gavriel? Hmmm…sounds funny when you called me by that name…" he replied, his tone carrying not praise but dissatisfaction. "Just Gavriel, please!"
Iris, "..."
"Nice to meet you, Gavriel. What's the matter? Why are you calling me so early?" Iris asks, glancing at the nightstand clock—it was only 8 in the morning.
"Are you alright?" he asked worriedly.
"Never been better! Besides, I've inherited the memories of young Iris, so there's no need to worry. Everything will be just fine. I'm eagerly awaiting my first assignment..." she responded, excited as she prepared to embark on her first mission and claim her first reward as a GH Intern.
"Are you sure you're alright?" Gavriel asked once again. Worry flashed through his eyes.
Iris furrowed her brow at his worried expression, sensing something was amiss. "What's happening? Why do you look worried?" she asks. She walked towards the window, gazing at the morning scenery from her bedroom before refocusing on her phone screen.
Gavriel didn't respond immediately; instead, he sighed long before finally speaking. "Before I left you in your unconscious state, I placed a seal on you to protect you from….bad things. The seal would shield you from any potential danger that might come to you when you lay in your bedroom, defenseless. So, it was crucial at the time..."
Iris was taken aback by his words but remained silent, allowing him to continue.
"And the seal suddenly sent me a signal that someone was attempting to breach it, indicating that your life was in danger. I tried to reach you through this device, but you are deep in your unconsciousness. Just as I was about to rush to your location, the signal ceased, showing you were fine. So, I knew your life was no longer at risk," Gavriel explained.
"Are you saying something bad sneaked into my bedroom when I was lying unconscious in the same bedroom?" Iris looked perplexed, unable to recall anything. After Gavriel asked her to close her eyes last night, she had no recollection of what had happened. Her consciousness only returned when she awoke in the morning.
"Yes," Gavriel confirmed.
"Could that be my Grandma?" Iris speculated, considering that only Grandma could enter her room.
"Young girl, the seal I placed on you is a powerful magic seal. Only non-humans and humans with malicious intent can trigger my protective seal," Gavriel's voice lingered in the air as if he were deep in thought. "Iris, there is something you need to understand about this world. It is unlike anything you have known so far... I hope that from now on, you will open your eyes, heart, and mind to your surroundings. Someday, you will understand why I was saying that."
Gavriel's words left Iris even more bewildered. Just as she was about to ask further, Gavriel continued speaking.
"Now that you are safe, I will end the call. Goodbye!" The connection abruptly severed, leaving the phone screen blank and Iris befuddled.
