The Reaper

Finally, he had fallen in battle. Defeated by the man he held a vendetta against for so long. Gabriel Reyes finally died at the hands of Jack Morrison. Known for so long as Reaper, Gabriel had changed dramatically throughout his life. Starting off as a police officer and then ending it all as a Terrorist. Once a champion of Justice, now a Champion of Vengeance. Gabriel and Reaper seemed like two completely different people. One was a Hero the other was a Villain.

But in his final moments, a sliver of Gabriel Reyes surfaced and a part of him wished he could get a second chance to make things right. He knew what he did was wrong and there was no forgetting that, but he still wanted to fight for Justice. He knew what he had become, he crossed the line long ago and couldn't go back from that. But in his last hour, he secretly wished he could. Hoping that somehow, he could go back and make sure he never crossed that line.

But there he was, lying on the ground in his own blood. Taken down by the man he once considered a friend. Overwatch helped as well, but he knew that Talon would still be at large even without him. He had done so many things under Talon, many things that at first, he didn't regret. But surprisingly, he started to as he passed away. However, he knew that he would never get the chance to make amends. At least, that's what he thought. When he should've felt himself passing into the great beyond, he felt something different.

Like he was moved and the pain he felt faded away. He never opened his eyes as he didn't think it was possible. The next thing he knew was that he felt the ground beneath him. Soon after he heard birds chirping. Confusion began to creep into him before he opened his eyes much to his shock. He blinked a little bit before looking around. He then sits up and takes in his surroundings.

He was in a forest, the shade from the trees covering him like a blanket. The wind howling as it brushes through the leaves. The air felt clean and refreshing while it danced on his body. He realized his mask wasn't on, so he looked around and found his skull-like mask on the ground beside his Hellfire Shotguns. The same weapons he used to claim so many lives. He grabbed his mask and looked at it for a second.

He noticed he was resting beside a river, its water crystal clear yet reflective of the world around it. Curiously, he crawled over to it and looked into the waters. His heart skipped a beat as looking back at him was his reflection. But it was of his younger self from back in Overwatch's hay day. He honestly couldn't believe it, had he aged backwards? Was that even possible?

He moves away from the river and just sits on the ground. His hands brushing through the blades of grass gracefully. A stark contrast to his dark clothing. He looked at his mask one more time and thought about all the things he did with it and then looked around. Was this his chance? Had God taken pity on him and gave him a second chance? Taking yet another look at his mask and then at the guns that still rest on the ground, he thought about his current situation.

Who is he now? Gabriel Reyes or Reaper? The Hero or the Monster? He couldn't tell. How did he even get here? So many questions exist in his mind now and no answers exist. He still wore his Reaper attire, that much was obvious to him. While he was dead confused, he knew he had to get moving. He had no idea where he was, and he needed to know. So, he put his mask back on and stood up from the grassy ground beneath him.

He walked over to his shotguns and picked them up. He looked at his weapons and thought about all the lives he claimed with them. He was about to holster them when he heard growling coming from behind. Turning around slowly, he saw a strange beast. It had black fur with red eyes and a white mask on its face. He had never seen something like this before, so it intrigued him. The beast growls a little more before leaping at him to pounce. But this beast already made a mistake in challenging the Reaper. Reyes aimed his shotgun and pulled the trigger.

A single shot is all it took to vaporize the head of the monster. The beast's body tumbled to the ground and quickly turned into mist, disintegrating rapidly before his eyes. This was new to him as he had never seen anything like it before. He didn't think much about it as he spotted a dirt road. Roads led to somewhere and he needed to find civilization. He holsters his shotguns and walks towards it.

Gabriel Reyes had no idea what was in store for him. This new land may lead to new experiences and maybe even finally be the catalyst that changes him one last time.
