The Unguarded Kingsguard

SEVENTEEN YEARS AGO

"I'm definitely not in Troleyadia anymore," Phileous said to himself as he got up and ran into the night.

He didn't know where he was or where to go but he didn't worry about that. The only thing on his mind at that moment was finding the twins and finishing them off but they were gone and he had no idea where they were.

He got close to a bridge and saw a group of people sitting under it with a fire burning around them. The night was cold so he decided to go sit by the fire and warm up.

He reached the fire burning in a metal barrel and put his hands over it while the homeless people around all stared at him like he was a lunatic because of how he was dressed.

"Dude, what are you wearing, man?" One of the hobos asked.

"This is a Kingsguard uniform. Only the bravest warriors earn the right to wear one of these," Phileous bragged.

"Well, looks like someone's been watching too many episodes of Jumong," Another hobo joked and the others burst into laughter.

"Mock me all you want, it doesn't matter. You're all insignificant insects unworthy of being crushed by my boot," He insulted.

"He talks funny too. The whole nutcase package!" The first hobo said again.

"Hey, what's with the insults? We're letting you use our fire so best be nice or you'll have to leave. All we're saying is that you can't be wearing that or people will look at you funny," The oldest hobo, Al said to Phileous.

"You mean, my armour will draw people's attention?" Phileous sought clarification.

"Yes and the police might also be tempted to have a word with ya so you best take that off," Al said.

"What will I be clad in then?" The Kingsguard asked.

"There's some pile of clothes by the pillars. Find whatever fits and wear that," Al told him.

Phileous walked over to the clothes and was disgusted by the stench but he put them on anyway to not draw attention to himself. He was in a strange world but he was sure they'd frown down on him if they realized he was here to kill two babies so it was best to stay under the radar.

The next day, the sun was up and Phileous decided to continue his search for the twins.

As he looked around, his stomach began to growl and he needed to get some food. He looked around for where he could eat until he found a food truck parked on the side of the road.

He went there and as he got closer, the delicious aroma made his stomach growl even louder.

He reached the truck and a woman stuck her head out the window to greet him.

"Howdy! What can I get you?" She asked with a smile.

"That smell? What is it?" Phileous asked the lady.

"Um.., tacos! This IS a taco truck after all," She said with a little bit of harmless sarcasm.

"I'd like some of it," He said.

She looked at his clothes and wasn't sure if he'd be able to pay for the meal so she asked.

"Pay?" He asked.

"Yeah, pay, with money?" She said.

Phileous dipped his hand into his hoodie pocket and took out a coin purse that he brought through the portal. He took a handful of gold pieces and placed them in front of the woman.

"Will this be enough for a whole meal?" He asked.

The woman couldn't believe her eyes. She took one of the coins and bit down on it and was amazed to see that it was real gold.

"Yes, um, this will do," She said and packed the coins off the counter with greed in her eyes.

After Phileous had eaten, he was back on his search but he wasn't convinced that he'd find them. The city was just too big and he didn't know where to begin.

That was when fate struck and gave him a clue!

He was walking through the parking area at a supermarket when two young women came out with a cart of foodstuffs and a baby basket with two babies in them.

"I still can't believe you just found them on the side of the road last night. Who would abandon such beautiful babies?" One of the women asked.

Phileous heard her and his intuition told him that the babies they were talking about were the same as the ones he was looking for.

The women got to their car and opened the trunk to put what they bought in it. Phileous stood beside the car next to theirs and pretended that was trying to enter it so they wouldn't suspect him but what he was really doing was eavesdropping to get more information.

"They're so cute and I'd love to keep them but you know I can't, Karen."

"I know, Jane. Taking them to an orphanage is the only thing you can do," Karen replied.

"I just hope good people adopt them," Jane said.

Phileous looked over at them and saw the basket that the babies were in and recognized it as the same one the twins were in. He was now completely certain that this was them and took out a knife from his hoodie and was ready to do the deed.

He started walking toward the women and as he got closer to them, a police car pulled up beside the women's car and two officers stepped out.

Judging from their matching uniforms, Phileous discerned that they were the warriors here in this realm so he decided to wait until they were gone. He would have fought them but his instincts told him to walk away because as a warrior, the first rule of battle is to never underestimate your opponent and he knew nothing of their skills so it was better to assess them first.

"Jane, glad I ran into you. I went through all the police data and no one's called in about missing babies. This is clearly a case of abandonment," One of the officers, who was Jane's younger brother said to her.

"Yeah, I figured," She replied.

"So, you taking them to an orphanage?" The other officer asked.

"Yeah, later today," She answered.

"Well, good luck with that," He said and went back into the squad car.

Mike the officer, walked over to his sister and kissed her on the forehead.

"Let me know how it goes, alright?" He said to her.

The two women got in the car and drove away and then, the officer got in his car and drove away as well.

Phileous had missed his chance but he wasn't about to give up. He saw a yellow car driving by and remembered that he'd seen people stop these kinds of vehicles and get carried by them so he decided to do the same.

He stopped the taxi and entered it, though he found it a little difficult to work the door handle.

"Follow that black vessel just ahead of you," He demanded.

"Black vessel?" The taxi driver was confused.

"That black moving contraption. Follow it," He said again.

"You mean, that Toyota? Why didn't you just say that?" The driver asked and drove behind the women's car.

They got to the orphanage and Phileous ran out of the taxi.

"Wait, mister! You haven't paid me," The driver yelled at him.

Phileous took out his coin purse and packed a handful of gold coins and gave the driver before he ran off.

He waited for Jane and her friend to take the babies into the orphanage and followed behind them. He saw Jane hand the babies over to a woman in black and white while she and her friend followed another into a room to talk with her.

Phileous sneaked through the orphanage and followed the sister inside to where she kept the babies. It was a nursing room and there were other babies in there as well with a single nun watching over them.

After the sister left the babies in the room, she left and Phileous sneaked inside. The other nun was at the other end, taking care of another child so she didn't notice that Phileous was in the room.

He tiptoed over to Joe and Lydia's crib and saw the mark on their hands, more confirmation that these were the right children.

He took out his knife and was about to kill them both but as he brought the knife down, Joe's little palm glowed and the life transformed into a sunflower.

Phileous looked at the flower in his hand and then, he looked into the children's eyes and was lost in them. They were so beautiful and precious and the look on their tiny faces magically melted his heart, almost like they made him rediscover his purpose in life.

He decided to leave them alone so they could grow up in this world. Here, they'd be safe and won't ever be a threat to King Darth and neither would he be a threat to them.

He sneaked out of the orphanage and decided to start a new life on Earth and he hoped it'd be enough to forget about his awful past or the crime he had almost just committed. He wanted to be a better person and this was the perfect place to start all over again.
