Mystics Evolved

As Joe was being choked by the vines, he struggled to get free of them but he wasn’t strong enough to do so. He could feel the life being choked out of him and desperately tried to do something, anything to get free but he couldn’t. He tried to use his powers but the vines were wrapped around his palm and were somehow negating his magic.

Kurt was deep in sleep and had no idea that his best friend was being killed right beside him and Josh couldn’t do anything to wake him up.

He slowly began to lose consciousness and just as he was about to close his eyes and slip away, he spotted some of the vines underneath the door to Lydia’s room and he realized that she was also being killed.

“Lydia,” He spoke her name in his head, desperate to save her because he could not afford to lose the only member of his family that he had just found.

They may have just met each other but their bond was already very strong and their connection was extremely powerful; they just didn’t know it yet.

“Joe,” A voice said inside his head, Lydia’s voice.

He could hear her, he could feel her pain and he could feel her desperation to live and she could also feel his. It would take years of practice and understanding for the twins to reach the full height of their powers but in this life or death situation, at this moment when they needed something, their mystic bond evolved and they reached a new level of their abilities.

The seeds of Mother Eyah grew a new stem which brought forth the mental connection between the kids. Their minds became merged psychically and they became telepathically united, able to hear each other’s thoughts and sense each other’s feelings. They were now one in every sense of the word and with this new connection came the ability to combine their powers.

Their palms began to glow simultaneously and it was brighter than they had ever been before. Powerful gusts of wind blew into both their rooms from out of nowhere and it was enough to pull the others out of their sleep so they could see what was happening. Kurt woke up and was shocked to see Joe in the state he was in.

“Oh my God, Joe, what the hell?” He exclaimed.

He got off his bed and ran over to Joe and tried to get the wines off him but they were wrapped tight and he couldn’t free him. He kept trying but it wasn’t working so he decided to get something sharp so he could cut the wines.

“Hold on, Joe. I’ll be right back,”

Kurt ran out of the room and bumped into Philip and Micah who didn’t know what was happening yet.

“What’s going on, Kurt?” Philip asked.

“Joe’s being attacked by a vine and it's killing him. We need something to cut him free,”

“Where’s Lydia?” Micah asked.

They all ran into her room and saw that she was also being attacked.

“We need to help her,” Micah shouted.

“We need a knife or something to cut the vines,” Kurt said.

“I have some machetes in my adventure kit. We can use those,” Philip said.

The three of them ran into Philip’s room to get the large knives and when they found them, Philip gave two to Micah and Kurt.

“The two of you should go to Joe and cut him free while I help Lydia. Come on, we have to hurry,”

They all ran out of the room and as they opened the doors to Lydia’s and Joe’s room, a powerful blast of wind and energy pushed them back.

Joe and Lydia’s bodies were now suspended in the air, crackling with heat, light and electricity while their palms glowed even brighter. The wind around the suite was even more powerful and the lights in it flickered on and off as the energy surged all around them.

“What’s going on with them?” Micah asked.

“They’re evolving into the next stage of their powers,” Philip mentioned.

“Well, what do we do?” Kurt asked, confused.

“We need to take cover. This isn’t going to end well,” Philip answered.

The twins elevated even higher and their energy became stronger. The wines around their bodies started to catch on fire and they both screamed out as their power rose, encasing their hearts and minds with its purity, filling them up with energy, unlike anything they had ever felt. The light around them was brighter, the electricity within them surged out and in the blink of an eye, there was an explosion of mystical fire infused with light and energy and it turned the vines to dust and sent a small yet powerful shockwave through the entire hotel.

The wave pushed some of the furniture away and the others had to duck and take cover so they wouldn’t get hurt. The entire hotel shook on its foundation and there were tremors and a power outage that covered a two-mile radius and it felt like an earthquake had just hit the land.

Joe got free and was finally able to breathe again. He got off the floor and ran into Lydia’s room to check on her. He got in and found her on the floor, holding her throat and breathing heavily, free from the hold of the vines as well.

“Lydia, are you alright?” He asked and ran to her.

“I’m fine. I’m okay,” She told him and he helped her to her feet.

The others ran into the room as well and were glad to see that the two of them were okay.

“What were those things?” Lydia asked, her question directed at Philip.

“That was powerful Ginx magic which means another one has found us,” He told them.

They suddenly heard the rustling of leaves coming from outside their window and Joe ran towards the sound and got to the window. He slid open the slides and saw someone suspicious running away in the bushes. The person looked back and Joe saw his mask and the blue glow of his eyes and hands and realized that it was the Ginx that had just tried to kill them.

His palm lit up and he fired a blast of fire at the Ginx but he missed the target and the Ginx ran away.

“That was the Ginx,” Joe said to the others who were now at the window too.

“What do we do about this?” Kurt asked.

“I’ll tell you what we’re doing; we’re ending this,” Joe said angrily and jumped out the window from quite the height but he landed softly on the ground and gave chase to the Ginx.

“Joe, wait,” Lydia called out and jumped out as well and ran behind him so they could face the Ginx together.

“Kids, you must come back. That Ginx is too powerful and you’re not ready to face him,” Philip called out to them but they didn’t listen to him and they ran into the bushes and out of sight.

Philip grunted in frustration and ran back to the hall to grab one of the machetes. He took the weapon and went to the window.

“The two of you stay here and wait for us, alright?” He told Kurt and Micah before he jumped out the window himself and ran in the same direction as the Ginx, Joe and Lydia.

“Are we really just going to stay here and do nothing?” Kurt asked Micah.

“Hell, no!”

Micah ran into his room and opened another bag and took out two handguns. He made sure they were loaded and gave one to Kurt.

“I don’t know how to use this, Micah,” Kurt said with the gun in hand.

“It’s simple; you point and you pull the trigger,” Micah said.

He took his dad’s codex just in case and also grabbed some vests with runes on them and gave one to Kurt. They put on the vest, grabbed the other machetes and ran to the window.

“Alright, let’s go help them,” Kurt said and looked out the window and realized that it was quite high up from the ground.

“Maybe we should use the door,”

“I agree,” Micah said and they both ran out of the room.

Joe and Lydia ran side by side while they chased after the Ginx and he ran deeper into the jungle. As they pursued him, Joe and Lydia shot streams of fire at him but he was quick and managed to evade their blasts as he ran away.

“We can't let him get away,” Joe said telepathically to Lydia.

“He won't,” She replied.

They chased him further into the jungle until they got to a shallow swamp and caught up to him because he stopped running. He stood still, standing in the muddy waters of the swamp with his back to them and his hands by his side.

“Give up! There’s nowhere left to run and you’re outnumbered,” Lydia shouted and her hands ignited into flames.

“I wasn’t running, fools and you are the ones who are outnumbered,” The Ginx said and turned around to face them.

Two other Ginxes appeared around them and it was now a handicap situation of three powerful, strong, fully-trained, magical assassins versus the inexperienced, amateur Twin Seeds of Eyah. Joe and Lydia stood back-to-back and although they were afraid, they were both ready to fight as much as they could.

“The time has finally come for the both of you to die,” The first Ginx said.

The three assassins’ hands glowed simultaneously and their swords appeared in them, ready to kill the seeds and dispel the prophecy once and for all.
