Ms Brains and Cheater.

I was asleep. At long last...

Then these nightmares started again. I was all alone, and the air around me was chilly. Bitterness crept through my lungs. My chest was pounding like never before. We hear of monsters only in stories and movies... I had seen one in real life. Just as I feared that it was just me alone in the room, just as I was starting to heal from the trauma...

Boom!

I jumped up from my sleep, trying to catch my breath. Something loud had fallen, and I was terrified as soon as I woke up. I immediately swung the blanket off of me and trotted towards the door. It took me a moment before the confidence filled me. I took the door's handle and turned it down to open it, then I slowly traced my footsteps to the stairway where I'd heard the noise.

Carefully watching my steps, I managed until I was at the stairway. Everywhere was filled with absolute silence. "Mom?" I called out, but the air toiled with my voice creating an echo. I needed to be prepared.

Grabbing the first weapon my eyes caught, which was a stick standing by the wall, I held it firm and close to me. It was pretty heavy and I imagined it working its magic on the villain's head. That thought made me chuckle a little, but we're not playing here, Suzie.

I hurried downstairs now, energy surging inside my lungs. It was just my mom and I that were at home, as my sister was in college. As soon as I arrived downstairs, I could hear the sound of a muffled conversation. Then my mom was at the entrance which was half open.

"M-mom?" I called out and immediately she turned to face me, she panicked.

There were worry wrinkles around her eyes. "My dear, please go! I'm fine." She yelled out, and that didn't do much to put me at ease.

I hoped it wasn't what I was thinking, but there was only one way to find out. "Who's that!" I demanded, clenching my fist against the stick.

My legs moved forward now, and I was ready to find out who was at the door. Before I got to the entrance, my mom quickly slammed the door and took me by my arms, dragging me upstairs. I tried to struggle, but she was much stronger.

Fortunately, I was much smaller so I made my way under her arms and raced towards the door. I could hear her screaming my name as she ran behind me, but I ignored. The moment my hands reached for the door, I forcefully swung it wide open. The view before me was silent, a gentle breeze whistling past my ears. No one was there.

"He was here, wasn't he! Wasn't he!" I demanded, facing my mom. She looked down, saying nothing.

Finally her lips parted. "Go to school. You'll be late." Before she turned to walk away, I caught a glimpse of a small cut just below her eyes. She must have not noticed, but she was bleeding now.

That alone had answered my question. He was here.

"A new student?" I asked Mike the moment I arrived at school. That was the gist I'd been hearing around.

He nodded his head in excitement. "It's crazy actually, but the entire school has been talking about him, you see."

We were walking towards our class. Chris sighted us already and was soon walking beside us.

"Morning Chris," I said, and she nudged me a slight nod then I returned my attention back to Mike. "So? You were saying?"

He seemed excited to continue. "Yes, as I was saying actually. Breath in, breath in--"

"He's the son of Paul Daniels." Chris announced, and this caused Mike to yell out a pained 'Hey!'.

I paused, trying to process the information. "Really?" I asked again, and she nodded.

Paul Daniels is a famous actor, and a very wealthy businessman as well. And his son will be transferred here? It was shocking news.

But it wasn't so surprising. Here at Goldenville high, the students were sons and daughters of billionaires. Except for me of course. I was the daughter of a woman with three petty jobs, but my wits had gotten me to where I was. I became a student via a scholarship, and since then, I had been maintaining my reputation as being the best student overall.

I shrugged. "Well, I welcome him to our school then."

"Maybe you should tell him yourself," Mike said.

"Yea whatever." I mumbled, then together we stepped in the class. It was geography class, and the only subject I loved even more than math was geography.

I took my position in the front seat as I used to, while Chris and Mike found their way to the seats at the back. I always told them to sit with me but they wouldn't listen. Their loss.

The front seat was the best for me. Our geography teacher stepped in and began her teaching.

"Okay so today, I'll like to remind us all that we're having a quiz. I hope we haven't forgotten..." Her announcement was cut short by the loud groaning of the class. They were all too lazy to take her quiz because she was just perfect when it came to setting questions.

A slight smirk worked its way over my face as I sat straight. Of course I was already prepared for the quiz.

"Hey hey, I announced this last class so you can all study ahead. I don't care, because we are having this quiz whether you like it or not." She said, and I was glad for her fierceness.

"We have to do this test!" I giggled under my breath, making sure no one had heard me.

"Alright then, listen up..." before she could continue, she was suddenly cut short by our principal, Mrs Smith.

She walked in with a smile plastered on her face. She was always in a good mood, such a lovely woman.

"Hello everyone," she called out, and the entire class greeted in return. "I'm sorry for interrupting your class, but I'll like to announce to you all that we have a new student in our midst today." The class roared out in excitement.

"It's Paul Daniels' son!" A voice yelled out from behind.

"Oh my God, I can't believe it!" Another yelled out.

"Okay okay, let's keep it down now. " Mrs Smith said, her hands gesturing for them to reduce their noise. "Yes he is none other than Paul Daniels' son, Josh Daniels. Please let's welcome him now."

As soon as she announced, the transfer student walked in elegantly like he owned the school. My eyes met with his, and I nearly fainted.

I was dreaming, I had to be. He saw that I'd seen him now, and I could have sworn he was smiling at me. He was smiling at me!

"Cheater?" I found myself yelling out.

"Ms brains, hello." He said, waving his hands.

I could feel the eyes of the entire class on me now.

No. fucking. way!
