Re:Life: Glitch in the System

It was a very normal day for the inhabitants of planet Earth when an emotionless robotic voice resounded in every creature's mind. "Unawakened Planet#54673242 discovered" "Initiating Awakening" When mankind had finally adapted to these changes, the voice of the System rang once again. "Tutorial has ended. A war will be initiated for the ownership of Planet#54673242." Mankind fought long and hard but they were still no match for their enemies. Mankind lost. Ezekiel or Zeke as his friends knew him, was a researcher. He was one of the wisest humans and there was a spear sticking through his chest. As he was dying, he heard the System's voice. "Activation prerequisites met." "Activating Skill: Glitch???" "Remaining Uses: None" The last thing he heard before dying was, "You human vermin finally lost. This planet now belongs to the...wait! What is happening? Why is the Sys@#$%@$..." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a regression novel. Chapter 7: Outburst

"HE WHAT?"

"Yup, Zeke got himself a girlfriend. And a senior at that. All the boys in the third grade were calling him the 'Rizz God'."

"She is not my girlfriend. And those guys are idiots."

"So you did not skip every class after recess because you were talking to her?"

"He did what?"

"We were not talking. We were studying. In the library. And those classes are boring. I already know everything they are teaching so I would have skipped most of them-cough cough. The point is, she is not my girlfriend. She can't be, we just met today."

"So there is hope for the future?"

"That's enough Cass. Stop teasing your brother." Then she looked at Zeke and said, "We'll talk about this when we reach home, young man."

She resumed driving. The rest of the ride was mostly silent except for the occasional giggle from Cass. Alexi was already home by the time they got home.

"Hey, guys. How was your day?"

Before Cass could even open his mouth, Zeke said, "Shut up, Cass." and dragged him upstairs.

"What is up with him? Anyway, I got the beasts and everything else on the list. I have to say, you know some very interesting people. But seriously what is going on?"

"You'll know in a minute."

Cass and Zeke came down. Zeke had calmed down a little but then he heard Katherine saying, "Cass, go to your room. Zeke stay." Cass didn't say anything and returned to his room.

Katherine pointed at the sofa and said, "Sit."

"I'm fi-"

"I said, sit."

Zeke obediently sat down. Alexi, who was standing behind her, mouthed 'what did you do' to Zeke. Zeke mouthed back, 'I don't know.' Katherine obviously saw this and looked at Alexi. He suddenly found the roof of his new home very interesting and started observing it.

Then he said, "Will someone tell me what is going on?"

Katherine glared at Zeke and said, "Mr. Rizz God here, got himself a girlfriend today."

"So?" Alexi was confused.

"I said, he made a girlfriend today. A senior at that."

"And?"

"Are you not listening? I said-"

"I heard you the first time. But I still don't see the problem here."

"How do you not see the problem here? He is seven."

Alexi was still confused. Why was she making this such a big deal? Then he understood why.

"Right. You don't know about that."

"About what?"

"Magnus also made his first girlfriend when he was seven. And, he didn't even do anything."

"He what?"

"Of course, you don't know about that. After all, we met you guys much later. And let me tell you, he did not put in any effort. Hell, for the first six months, my man didn't even know what the word 'girlfriend' meant. True story."

"Please tell me you are joking."

"Nope. As someone who grew up with Magnus, let me tell you something. He was always surrounded by girls. You already saw that when we were in school. It's one of the reasons that we were able to meet. But it was much worse when we were kids. These Ashbourne kids, something about them just attracts girls to them. And these guys are much cuter than Magnus ever was."

"Enough!" Zeke had heard enough.

"She is not my girlfriend. We are friends. I already told you, we just met today."

"You skipped every class after recess because you were talking to a 'friend'?"

"We were in the library. And we were studying."

"You study in class, not-"

"I don't, okay. Do you have any idea what it's like? I'm five years ahead of them in terms of curriculum, and that was before I got these damn memories. I was one of if not the smartest men in the Earth Federation. Do you have any idea how hard the Demons tried to get me to switch sides? I already had one of their most prestigious bloodlines.

They withdrew from the Faction War because of me. Because of my word, that if we lost and I was still somehow alive, I would join them. They left a planet, a whole planet, in exchange for the slight chance that I would join them. When they left, so did the Angels. Otherwise, there was no way that the Garden of the Fair Folk would be the winner. The only reason that I'm even going to school is for Cass and to brush up my knowledge. Back from the complete basics. But even my complete basics start from the curriculum of eighth grade.

And my 'girlfriend', as you keep calling her, is one of the few true friends that I had. Her name is Aria Fairchild. She is two years older than me. When I saw her today...you know what? I don't care what you think. I'm done explaining myself."

Then he stormed off. Katherine wanted to say something to stop him but didn't know what to say. Alexi also just stood there not knowing if he should say something or not. And if so, what? In the end, he simply said, "We obviously need to talk about some issues. Let him cool off a little. The blood and bones are in the fridge. I'll go talk to him while you refine the blood and bones. And then we all will sit down and have a calm and civil conversation."

Katherine merely nodded and headed to the kitchen, retrieved the blood and bones and headed to her lab. The blood was fairly easy, she just had to put it into the machine, making sure that blood of each affinity was separate. The bones were a whole different ball game. She had to analyse their structure and remove the unwanted components without making the bones collapse. Just as she was busy with this, Alexi headed upstairs to Zeke's room.

He knocked on his door but he got no reply.

"Zeke, buddy, It's me, Alexi. I just want to talk. Can I come in?"

He got no reply.

"Don't worry. I'm not angry or anything. I just want to talk, OK? I'm coming in."

He opened the door and entered the room and found Zeke playing Call of Duty. He was decimating his enemies.

"Can I play too?"

Zeke paused playing for a moment and then gave another remote to him. For the next hour, they did nothing but play in absolute silence. Finally, Zeke put the remote down and asked, "What do you want?"

"I told you. I just want to talk."

"About?"

"About what just happened downstairs."

"I have nothing to say about that."

"Then listen. I get it that Katherine went too far and that this wasn't too big of a deal. But you have to understand something too. Katherine's new to this whole parenting thing. And you boys are not exactly your average children. You with your advanced intellect, and Cass with his battle instincts.

You might know because you were absent, but they had a small sparring match in your school. I saw those clips today and I could only think of one thing at that time. Cass could easily wipe the floor with any, and I mean any 10-year-old.

And try to see things from her perspective too. You have the memories of an adult man, don't you? And you said something about Cass's children. Now imagine your state of mind if one day you found that Cass's seven-year-old child was in a relationship and that they had skipped every class after recess because they were 'studying'.

I'm not saying that Cass's child is in an actual relationship. But you somehow got the news that they are. What would you do? Think about that."

With that Alexi left the room, leaving Zeke deep in thought. Then he went to check on Katherine. She was almost done with the blood and bones.

"I talked to Zeke. He has some things that he needs to think about. But you do too. He wasn't exactly wrong. We don't know what it feels like. He is a child, with the memories of an adult man, inside the body of a child. I can't even begin to imagine how he must feel like.

And then there is his intellect. He must feel that third grade is a waste of his time. And he isn't wrong. And he can't just skip grades either. After fifth grade, many classes require the use of mana."

"I don't know how I can help him. What would Magnus and Isabelle do if they were still alive? Would they be disappointed in me..." Katherine had started crying.

"Nothing different. This was also their first time as parents and they wouldn't have trusted us with the boys if they didn't believe that we could do this. Also, did you notice that he was referring to his other self as himself? I think that those memories are affecting him much more than we thought they were. But we will deal with that later. Now, let's make some soup."

They transferred the refined blood and bones in a large utensil. Then they put it on a stove in the backyard because they didn't want the house to stink of blood. They turned the on and left it on low heat. It would take about 4-5 hours before it was done.

Five hours later, the soup was done. They strained the soup into another container but something unexpected. Alexi said, "I think you refined those bones a little too well. I think they dissolved in the soup but that's not a bad thing, right?"

She agreed with him and then she carefully put the soup into ice trays and put those in the freeze dryer. With her industrial-grade freeze dryer, they would only need an hour before they were ready.

Both of them went inside, only to find Zeke waiting for them in the living room.

"We need to talk."

"That we do." Alexi was happy to see that Zeke did not look angry. They both sat down and waited for him to start.

"First of all, I wanted to apologise. I said some things that I shouldn't have said."

"Me too. I feel like I was too hard on you. I had no idea that you felt this way."

They talked about some of the things that had been bothering both of them. When it was time for dinner, they decided to order something. At first, they wanted to get pizza, but Cass had pizza for lunch and wanted something else so they ordered burgers.

[Alexi ordered it for him during my rant. You didn't think we would let him starve, did you?]

After they were done eating, Zeke invited them all to the lab.

"It's time we begin the preparations for the elixir."
