“Vet Khan?” I’m not all that sure of what is going on here, I thought he was dead. It’s like he never aged, looks the same the first day I met him.
“Hello Alexander.” He says with a deep voice.
“I... thought you were dead.” He lets out a deep chuckle.
“As you can see, I’m 100% alive.”
“Alexander, come and sit down.” My mother tells me pointing out a spot next to her, I go and sit down.
I look around and observe who’s in the room. On the couch it’s me, my mom and dad. By the wall is Aren, Christian, Mr. and Mrs. Parbat. Along with Christian’s dad.
“What brings you here Vet? I know it was dangerous for you to leave the island.” My father asks the question we all have on our mind.
“Yeah, my brother still has a bounty on my head. I came here to look for my daughter, Katana Khan.” I lift my head up intrigued by what he just said.
“Katana?” He nods his head.
“She’s been missing for about a year now, it's hard to sniff her out since all us Khan’s smell the same.” I haven’t seen Katana since I was 6 years old, she had to have been 12 at the time.
“When did she become a Khan?” Mrs. Parbat asked.
“She pledged the creed on her 17th birthday. I didn’t want her to do it since you give up so much, but she was persistent. Her pledging means she had to give up her title, but you know how she can be?”
“We do.” Everyone says in unison.
“Should’ve came sooner your practically family Vet, I’ll send out some scouts to look for her.” My mother tells him.
“Thank you, Col, it’s very nice of you.”
“No problem, we know you would do the same for my Alexander.” She gives me a small smile while clutching my hand.
“When did she go missing?” Aren asked readjusting her stance, Christian nods alongside her.
“About a year ago.” He looks down, sadness fills his eyes.
“A year? Where could she have gone?” My mother's grip on my hand tightens. I rub her palm, trying to calm her down.
“We’ve been searching for her everywhere, one of our Khan’s spotted her here when he was on a mission.”
Why would she be in St. Helena? “Ever since she lost the baby, she hasn’t been the same.”
“What baby?” Christian asked leaning on the couch.
“I don’t want to get into it, that’s not why I’m here. I just.... want to find my daughter.” I’m intrigued by this whole baby thing; I don’t remember Katana ever having a mate. Or just being in a relationship. “I sent my son, Kai, to find her but I haven’t heard from him either.”
"Is he also a Khan. Did he pledge the creed." Mr. Parbat questions.
"Yes, he pledged about a year ago."
“Who’s your son?” Mr. Holt says. Vet pulls a polaroid out of his jacket, seeing the person in the picture I let out a slight gasp.
“Alexander you alright dude.” I look up to see Aren looking at me curiously.
“I’m fine... just shocked about the whole situation.”
“I understand... it’s a lot to take in, trust me I know.” He puts the photo back in his jacket.
“Our scouts will go out first thing tomorrow morning to look for Katana and Kai. I’ll send Oscar, out. He's our best scout. They are some tough kids they’ll be fine.” My father reassures him.
“Toughest kids I know. Just like their mother.”
“How’s Yuki doing during all this?” Mrs. Parbat pours him some more tea in his cup. He gives her a small smile, showing his gratitude towards her nice gesture.
“She can’t cope with it, so she’s back at her home in Almeeria.”
“I’ll have to give her a call tomorrow it’s been so long since I’ve talked to her.” My mother gets up from the couch and heads down the hall.
“Let’s go into my office and talk further about the search.” My father, Mr. Holt and Vet all walk down the hall to his office. Leaving just me, Aren, Christian and Mrs. Parbat.
“While Katana and Kai are out there you three stay here tonight.” Mrs. Parbat says sternly.
“Yes ma’am.” We all say unison. Her glare stays on us for a few more seconds, then she walks off.
Instantly rising up from the couch I pull Aren and Christian outside with me. “Dude let go.” Christian groans while trying to pull his arm away from my grip.
“Yeah man.” Aren chimes in. I release my grip on them. “What’s the matter?”
“Kai, Vet’s son I know who he is.” They wait to me to tell them who it is. “You’re both not going to even guess.”
“Nah.”
“We don’t feel like it just tells us.”
“It’s Lyle.” Confusing expressions form on their faces.
“Yeah... we don’t know a Lyle.” Chrisitan says.
“Right, what he said.” Aren Chimes in.
“He works with Quinn at The Tribune. If he’s the son of Vet and he’s meant to be here looking for Katana, then why is she faking to be a teenager?”
“Maybe to blend in, you said It yourself he is the son of Vet, Yount or Sasha would kill him if they knew who he was.” Chrisitan says. Makes sense, if I was on Yount or Sasha’s kill list I would hide also.
“But why at The Tribune, why with Quinn? I have to tell her everything now, it's the perfect moment.”
“Wait... what do you mean?” Aren gives me look, a you-better-not look.
“I have to tell Quinn who I am, what I am.” Both of them shake their head vigorously.
“Alex you can’t do that, not now anyways with all this Katana mess going on it’s on safe.”
“I agree with Christian on this one.”
“That’s the thing it will never be safe to tell her. She’s my mate sooner or later she will start to have suspicions. I already couldn’t tell her where I was for those two weeks, I can’t lie to her anymore.”
“Oh Jesus.” Aren pulls her hair as she starts pacing.
“Christian think if this was Luci.” Aren can’t sympathize in this because she doesn’t have a mate, but Christian does. “Wouldn't you want Luci to know who you really were? It eats me up every day that she can’t know of this life, where I really live.” I don't want to keep secrets anymore, I want to be me.
