Chapter 9 - Just call me Bob

The people inside the tavern were stunned, something amazing just happened right in front of their eyes. They didn't want to believe it, but the proof was right there!

One man took on over a hundred people by himself.

This was something they'd be able to tell for generations to come.

Dave walked out from the tavern slowly, his eyes were wide open.

"Bob… what are you?"

He asked with utmost interest.

Bob looked at him and smiled.

"Just a pirate hunter."

Dave shook his head.

"I've seen many pirate hunters before in my youth but none of them could hold a candle to you."

Bob rubbed his head.

"Really? Thanks, man! You're praises make me feel so powerful, please continue!"

"But what are you going to do now? I don't think the base commander here will allow you to collect their bounties. You've basically ruined part of his income. Not only that, once the bandits hear that Greybeard is no more they'll be looking to take over this side of the island again."

Bob could understand what Dave was saying. He couldn't turn in the bounties here unless the base commander turned over a new leaf or was replaced.

Although he didn't come straight out and ask for help dealing with the bandits, Bob knew thats something Dave also wanted.

Bob didn't mind, he was just traveling the world.

Seeing the way these two groups bullied these helpless people it angered Bob in the inside. Reminded him of the time when he first came to this world. He was getting beat up by those kids.

Bob clenched his fist just thinking about it.

Revenge would be nice, but he doubted he'd ever see those kids again. Heck, its been 10 years since then he wouldn't even recognize them.

"I have a few ideas in my head. I might take a stroll over to the other side of the island, or pay the base commander a visit first. See what his part is in all of this. At the end of the day, i'll need to contact some real marines so they'll know what's going on."

Bob looked at Black Death, he wondered how many souls he collected.

[Black Death]

[+50 Attack Damage]

[+30% Attack Speed]

[+5% Movement Speed]

[Unique Passive - Soul Taker: After killing your foe absorb their soul for increased stats.]

[Souls Taken: 0]

Bob was confused, he didn't know how many people died by his blade but he was sure they were dead. So why weren't their souls taken?

Bob tapped on the sword.

He pointed it at their corpses.

Still, nothing happened.

"Absorb?"

Bob sounded like he was asking if that was the right answer when he said it, and his voice was low.

That seemed to be the right answer as small blue specks of light emerged from the corpses and flew into the sword.

When Bob looked at the stats again, he could see the extra stats and souls absorbed.

[Black Death]

[+60 Attack Damage]

[+30% Attack Speed]

[+5% Movement Speed]

[Unique Passive - Soul Taker: After killing your foe absorb their soul for increased stats.]

[Souls Taken: 76]

Bob just thought about an amazing build, what if he brought all items in the store that revolved around death and corpses? He'd be like a necromancer or grim reaper. That'd be cool.

He made a self note to himself to try it out later on if he ever had time or enough points.

"Bob… what were those lights that flew into your sword?"

Dave asked Bob cautiously. He was a little scared that Bob's sword ate those dead men's souls, he prayed that he was wrong.

"Souls of the fallen."

Bob replied nonchalantly.

Dave started sweating, he hoped he was wrong but turns out he was right.

"I see… I see…"

Dave said but his words sounded as if he was nervous.

He didn't want to think about what happened to those souls once they were absorbed. All must know that you either go to heaven or hell when you die, but if you have no soul…. Where do you go?

Bob recalled something.

"Oh right. That ship that was docked, was that the pirates ship?"

Dave nodded his head.

"Yeah, I believe so. It's been there for so long, that I no longer pay attention to it. If you didn't mention it I wouldn't have even remembered that ship."

"Anything wrong with it?"

Dave shrugged his shoulders.

"You're asking the wrong person. It hasn't moved in like 2 years, so it might still sail. Why are you asking anyways? Don't you have a boat?"

Bob nodded.

"I do, but that can only get me so far. It'd be crushed in a storm, i'll need something much larger if I ever want to travel to places further away."

"That and you'd need some men to operate it."

Bob agreed. Even if he did take over that ship, he'd still need to hire men to man it. Maybe it was better for him to keep his own little boat for now.

"But if you're looking for men to operate it for you, I know some! They used to have a large ship a long time ago, but it was destroyed by the bandits one day. That was back when they did not want any of us to leave the island."

"Sounds terrible, where are these men now?"

Dave pointed behind him.

"Those guys?"

"No, no. On the other side of the island. Thats where they live."

"Guess that gives me another reason to go to that side then. I'll need your help to find them though, so come with me."

"Sure, sure. You're giving me quite a show, and making this place better already. I don't mind following you around."

Bob laughed a little.

"Just don't go around calling me boss."

Dave looked shocked.

"People do that?"

"Some, it's pretty…. Idk I just found it lame or stupid. Just call me Bob."
