Strange Happenings

After Shawn signed all of the papers that the man placed in front of him the man continued to explain what would happen from there, "Excellent, now that these are all completed you are officially on the team, and as you requested we will go ahead and have your first check wired to the account you designated since you had to deal with that slight mishap a few minutes ago. As for the job itself, I will lead you to the transport vehicle outside that will take you to the experiment grounds." The man with the lab coat explained with a smile before he stood up beckoning Shawn to a door behind him that he hadn't been through before.

Despite how things had gone so far Shawn thought that getting a check already was a huge accomplishment. While Shawn had been signing papers the man asked if he wanted any sort of compensation for dealing with the old man and the only thing that Shawn could think of was getting money.

They surprisingly gave him a more than generous amount of over $100,000 which was more money than Shawn had ever seen at once in his entire life. However, half of it was the compensation and the other half was taken away from his first check under his request to be given to another person which they said was fine as long as he performed his duties to the best of his abilities.

With the man in the lab coat motioning for Shawn to follow he obliged and followed the man further inside the building where it opened up even further into a vast warehouse that had tons of vehicles moving in and out of it that looked the same as the ones that Shawn saw outside the building.

In addition to the large number of vehicles present inside the building, there were also a ton of people that Shawn had previously seen in the line ahead of him outside. One particular person caught Shawn's eye as he saw the person that he had tried to cut in front of before except this time the man had a strange look on his face.

It was one Shawn didn't quite recognize but could almost be described as an infatuated look. It was definitely strange to Shawn but he felt it was better not to ask questions in a shady place like this since he had also just signed multiple life-altering contracts.

"Let's keep moving this is not a place to stand around." The man in the lab coat chuckled as he began making his way through the open expanse of the building until they arrived at a particular black van.

"This right here is going to be your station. In a moment other people will be joining you going to the same area so just follow the driver's instructions." The man in the lab coat explained before walking off without any other explanation.

Shawn felt like he was being dropped off like this too suddenly. There were still many questions he wanted to ask but figured it wouldn't be a good idea to chase down the lab coat man and risk his new job already.

After waiting for a while Shawn observed something strange as people walked by and got inside other vehicles. Outside the people had been in a line all the way down the street but this line had character in it. However, the new line that Shawn was witnessing had anything but character.

The only way he could describe it was by comparing it to the highest-ranked military group as they marched perfectly in line. The only difference was that these people were walking into a van instead of war.

After all, it didn't really matter how or why he got the money as long as he got it.

"Alright everyone, this way!" A voice suddenly shouted behind Shawn as one of the nearby doors in the building opened. The voice came from one of the men that looked like a soldier similar to those that rushed into Shawn's room during his initial interview.

That wasn't the most interesting part since just behind the man was a group of people just like Shawn saw before who were following in a straight line with a strange look on their face.

'It's that infatuated look on their face again.' Shawn thought to himself as he observed all of the people in the line. They all had the same look of dreaming but also excitement as they would randomly look around suddenly as if they were looking for someone.

Once the soldier-looking guy saw Shawn he stared for a few moments before finally speaking up, "I was briefed on what's going on with you so please just get in the farthest seat and wait until we arrive at the location." The man said before opening the back of the van and beckoning Shawn inside alongside all the other people.

Shawn didn't say anything to the man but nodded his head and headed inside the van all the way to the back that way everyone would be able to fit.

The only thing was that none of the people around Shawn that were piling into the back of the van seemed to want to talk. They all just stared into their own hands as if they were in their own universe somewhere.

The atmosphere made Shawn more than a little uncomfortable but he just sat there for a while playing with his hands and trying to understand where they were going by the sounds of the outside of the van and the constant singing of the guard at the front of the van who seemed to really enjoy the radio

After a while of waiting and many songs later the van suddenly came to a stop much to Shawn's delight. While on the road Shawn continued to try and talk to the people even going so far as to grab one man by the face and begin asking questions to maybe find some answers to the weird happenings.
