New Friend

"Malia where is Freda? Hey, I heard the new boy is crushing on you?" Asked Lina with a broad smile in her face.

"She is in the restroom. What? Where did you hear that kind of gossip?" I asked them.

"Well, that kind of news travel so fast. Some girls from your class are talking about it." Cindy said.

I am shocked to hear them, saying Nick is having a crush on me. "They got it wrong, okay. I think He likes Freda." I said to them.

"No! Definitely not Freda, He was looking at you the whole time Malia." Jane said and I turn to find her smiling at me. She is from section one too.

"Do you believe in us now Malia? Look your prince charming has come."

"Can you guys stop it? That is not true at all, and I am not interested anyway." I said coldly.

"Wow! Malia, He is so gorgeous and you tell us you don't like him at all?" Jane asked me with a surprised in her voice.

I don't want to get more confused. I decided to be quiet and wait for Freda to come. We plan to go to the nearest cafe and order milk tea or shakes before going home.

I am astonished to see Freda is coming to us, and beside him is no other than the handsome new student, Nick. What is she thinking? How could she bring a date on our first girls out together? They are talking so close with each other, like they have been friends for a long time.

"Hey guys, this is Nick and this is Lina, Cindy and Jane from our class and of course Malia." Freda introduced Nick to our friends. They all smiled at him widely.

By the way, our friends checking him out are so obvious, so I decided to tell them. "Come on guys we need to go now. It is getting late and you know I have curfew."

"Let us go." Freda said and I want to ask her why Nick is tagging along, later I will interrogate her, she could have scheduled their date on another day, why she wants to be with her friends, when it should be lovely if they will be alone with each other company. She hasn't also had experience about dating, maybe she got confused on what to do, we will understand if she bails on us and go with Nick we are her close friends after all.

I can feel Nick walking beside me. "Malia" He said my name. "Yes?" I asked him and turned to him, and I am shocked to see the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen. His face is angelic too. This boy is really handsome.

"Can I ask you a question?"

"Yes, what is your question Nick?"

"Can I send you home? I mean I want to know you Malia. Is it okay if I drop you.? I just want to be friends with you since I am new." Nick explained. I was stunned by his question.

     "Wow! Your fast, first Freda and now, me? I think that is not a good idea Nicholas, my parents are very strict, so I guess you can't take me home, and I don't have any intention of knowing a playboy like you." I told him sounding so annoyed.

"Hey! I just want to know you that is why I asked Freda's help, and I am not a playboy okay, you have to know me first Malia, then decide later if I am really like that." He spoke slowly in a hurt tone.

      "I am only allowed to go home with Freda you know." I said to him shyly.

     "I guess I have to try my luck then. I am not afraid to meet your parents, and I want to be friends with you, and I am willing to take my chances." He smiled coyly.

Oh! This boy has guts and direct to the point. I don't know why he wants to be friends with me. I feel the same apprehension again, I felt guilty for saying those words to him, he is right, I don't have any right to say what he is without knowing him first.

     "Meet you there at the cafe, I will just get my car, I promise you Malia, I am not a bad person and in no time you will like me." Nick said winking at me, and he sprinted back to the school parking lot.

"Wow! He is so attractive and so smitten by you Malia." Cindy said.

"Drop it guys, he just wants to be friends since he is new in our school." I said to them with irritation in my voice.

"Tell me now Freda, why did he go after you? What he wants from you or from me? He can be friends with the popular? Why did he choose to be with us?"

"You saw us talking?" Asked Freda.

"No! But I saw him go in your direction after our last class. I thought he wanted to talk to you, or he maybe like you." I stutter, I don't want my best friend thinking I was spying on her.

"Yes! He talked to me first, He doesn't like me, and I am sure of that. He wants to know you that is why he asked me to help him. I told him about your parents, but He insisted."

"He told me that he is not afraid to face anyone just to know you. I kind of like him right away because I can feel his sincerity. So, I guess you should give him a chance to know you Mal." Freda said.

I shake my head and say nothing to them. I don't want to argue with Freda with this one, but having an additional friend is not bad especially that he is so hot, knowing my status in campus, Nick will be a big help to make my senior year more thrilling, I know that I have a boring life, maybe he could help me to become more active with school activities, and enjoy my last year in high school with new level of experience.

      We are in line to order our milk tea when Nick arrived, and told us to take our seats since he will be the one to order and pay at the same time.

The girls agreed with happiness and find a table for us. I stayed behind to accompany Nick for it is a bit rude to leave him alone, when he is the one paying for our order.

"Thank you, Malia for letting me stay and hang out with your friends." Nick said to me and moved to the counter to have our order taken.

I need to look up at him for He is so tall. I think he is about six feet tall.

"I should be the one to thank you, it is not always someone like you want to be friends with the likes of me." I tell him honestly.

He raised his eyebrow before he speaks. "What does it even mean? I think you are so popular around campus. Judging with your personality. I think you have been breaking so many hearts."

"Ha ha ha! You make me laugh Nick. How I wish what you are saying is true, but I hate to disappoint you, but I am not what you think I am."

"I am not popular, and you see those girls? They are the only one I am acquainted with."

          "To tell you honestly, I am not disappointed, but surprised by what I heard from you. In my opinion, maybe because they feel intimidated by you." He said while looking at me seriously.

          "I guess, but I don't usually go out during school outdoor activities. I don't know how to tell you this, until now I can't believe how my parents convinced the entire faculty, that I am not allowed to participate in any school activities outside the classroom except the gymnasium and auditorium."

     "I can't force them to allow me either. So I don't have time to socialize. I am not even allowed here if not for Freda."

      We go to our table with a slow pace because I find it fascinating just talking with him. When we arrived the girls thank Nick for the treat.

      "Don't mention it, I am happy to be in your group." He told them while looking at me in the eyes.

      He does not only have good looks, but his appeal to girls is really extraordinary. My friends like him, it feels like he really belonged with us.

     I feel happy because this is the first time a boy asked me to be his friend. He is indeed special. I can't wait to know this jock. I have a hunch that Nick will be a part of me and Freda.
