“Okay, Nick. Here’s the thing. The thing is…okay, so like, the thing is…”
“What’s the thing, Casey? Tell me the thing.”
“When you got back from Nashville, after you’d done more recording? And I greeted you in the airport?”
I nodded. “Yeah…”
“I think that was when I realized it. That was when I wasn’t thinking about stopping myself from doing exactly what I wanted to do at that moment, and the thing I wanted to do was kiss you. So, I did.”
“I remember. It was a really nice surprise.”
“Anyway. I think that’s when I knew.” He took a breath and no words came out. Finally, he closed his eyes and said the words very slowly. “I think I’m in love with you.”
I’m sure my mouth was open, but I couldn’t seem to close it. He finally opened his eyes, looking like I was a bomb that might go off any second.
