Knowing this was a long and time-consuming task, Kai released all his Pokémon, except for his two Legendaries, to play in the Cerulean Gym's swimming pool.
When Daisy, Violet, and Lily saw Kai's Dratini, they immediately surrounded it with wide-eyed expressions.
"This is a Dratini!?" Violet exclaimed as she gently stroked its head. "It's even rarer than its final evolution, Dragonite. Where did you manage to catch one?"
Brock added, "We've travelled so far and only ever seen a pair of Dragonair and a Dratini in the Safari Zone near Fuchsia City. It's incredibly rare to see one. You're really lucky!"
Kai's Dratini, though it had become more confident lately under Charmeleon's influence, shyly hid behind the Fire Pokémon when it noticed so many people staring at it.
Kai ignored the chatter around him and instructed his Gardevoir to keep an eye on the Pokémon to ensure they didn't cause any chaos.
Then, he turned his attention back to the script on the table, carefully reading it.
Since it was a short play, the script was only about a dozen pages long. It included a story outline, character designs, and some dialogue, monologues, and narration.
"This script was written by Daisy," Lily said. "So, what do you think? Are there any issues?"
Kai nodded thoughtfully. "From a story perspective, it's a bit too simplistic. It lacks twists and excitement, but given the limited cast, even with your Pokémon, it's understandable."
Misty, who had been watching him from the side, rested her chin on her hand and asked curiously, "Kai, what did you do before you became a trainer?"
Shrugging, Kai replied, "I was a university student, but due to unforeseen circumstances, I dropped out. After that, I moved to the Kalos region and worked various jobs for a while. Eventually, I realized I couldn't spend my whole life drifting aimlessly, so I became a trainer and started my journey."
"Unforeseen circumstances?" Everyone exchanged glances, assuming something must have happened in Kai's family, though he didn't elaborate.
Ash asked, "What kind of job was it? It must've been boring to make you want to quit."
Kai chuckled. "Not at all. I worked at a film studio, coordinating on-set activities for different crews. It was pretty fun, actually. Oh, and there was even a famous celebrity who wanted me to debut as an actor!"
Misty's eyes lit up. "A famous celebrity? Who was it?"
Kai smirked. "Do you know Diantha?"
"Diantha!!!"
At the mention of her name, Daisy, Violet, Lily, Misty, and Brock shot to their feet in shock, while Ash looked utterly confused.
"Who's Diantha?" Ash asked, scratching his head.
Daisy explained, "Diantha isn't just a famous actress she's also the Champion of the Kalos region! Her movies are legendary classics!"
"That's right!" Violet gushed. "She's my idol! I've watched Lumiose Holiday and Princess and the Performer dozens of times!"
Lily's jaw dropped. "Wait, are you saying the Diantha wanted you to become an actor?"
Kai nodded. "We met by chance, and she looked out for me during that time. My Gardevoir was a Ralts she gifted me back then. She's also the one who encouraged me to become a Pokémon Trainer."
"Wow!" The sisters were starstruck. "If you get the chance, please help us get her autograph!"
"No problem," Kai replied with a grin. "When we visit Kalos, I can even introduce you to her. She may seem distant at first, but she's actually very approachable and kind."
They continued chatting about Diantha for a while before returning to the script.
Kai commented, "The script's theme is a bit youthful. To make it more engaging, I think it could use additional elements."
"But…" Daisy hesitated. "As you said, we don't have enough people to add too much."
Violet pointed at Kai, Ash, and Brock. "Why not have them help us out?"
"Us?" Ash and Brock asked in unison.
Lily giggled. "Come on, it's only fair to lend us a hand!"
Though initially reluctant, Kai eventually gave in when Ash and Brock eagerly agreed.
Daisy smiled at Kai. "Your appearance is perfect for the role of the prince. By the way, what kind of elements were you thinking of adding to the story?"
Kai looked around at the group. "Why don't we brainstorm together? More people means more ideas."
Everyone began suggesting changes.
Ash said enthusiastically, "We should include some Pokémon battles! That'd make it way cooler!"
Kai nodded, jotting it down.
Brock added, "We can't cut down on the water ballet scenes. If anything, we should give more stage time to Daisy and her sisters."
Kai sighed but nodded again. He knew Brock's suggestion catered to their core audience of admiring male fans.
Misty, blushing slightly, suggested shyly, "Maybe we could include a romantic scene? Like a hug… or a kiss…"
Violet teased her with a knowing smile. "Sure, since Misty herself is asking for it, we'll include it."
Misty's face turned red, and she stole a glance at Kai, who seemed too focused on writing to notice her flustered state.
After brainstorming, they finalized the cast:
Kai would play the lead role of the prince.
Misty would be the heroine, the mermaid princess.
Brock would play the loyal sailor, a servant to the prince.
Ash would disguise himself as the princess's maid for comedic relief.
Lily would play the villainous pirate captain.
Violet would take on the role of the wicked sea witch.
Daisy, with her minimal stage time, would narrate the story while also playing a businesswoman.
With the roles assigned and ideas finalized, the group officially began rehearsals.
Kai renamed the play: The Cerulean Gym's Annual Undersea Chaos Drama!
