Chapter 14

'These sandwiches are really good,'

Walking down a pathway, Bob bit into a sandwich.

He was on the prowl for some pokémon, but he was hungry.

Soon he came across a large patch of grass. Bob knew what to do.

With a rush, he threw a poorly operated orchestra of stomps and turtles as he lumbered through the tall grass.

'Come on,' In all honesty, he looked like an idiot.

But he froze once his eyes caught sight of something.

A pokémon with a glare that could drag your soul to hell...

"Wooper!"

The Wooper stared at Bob, ready to throw...hands?

'Perfect,' Bob thought, putting away the sandwich and taking out a pokéball, 'Water-ground, a good typing,'

'A good challenge,'

He threw the pokéball at the ground. It cracked open, and a white fuzz escaped.

The pokémon that appeared yawned and cracked its neck, its battle-hardened eyes stabbing daggers into the water-type.

It was ready.

"Quilava," Guts spoke, breathing steam out of his nostrils, the fire on his lower back and head flaring.

'Let's see how you do in your first battle in this form,' Bob thought.

Wooper reacted by spewing out a blast of water.

'Water Gun,'

"Guts, Quick Attack..."

In a split second, Guts zipped out of the water's way, sending dirt flying.

The Wooper looked around, wondering where its foe went.

But there was a weird force slowly pressing down on it.

As it noticed a flash towards it, it could hear something faint.

Why was it hearing boss music?

BAM!

The fire-type slammed into the water-type catching it off guard.

BAM!

BAM!

Two more times. Wooper tried to focus but got smoked by a beam of fire.

"Woop!" It cried, flying back.

"Quil," Guts said, breathing out.

'What a jump of power,' Bob thought, watching Wooper get up, 'Wild encounters don't seem to phase him anymore,'

"Wooper!" The water-type cried, somehow lobbing a huge blob of mud at the fire-type.

Bob quietly took out a ball.

Then, he spoke.

"Flame Charge,"

"Quilava!" Guts shouted, blooming in hot flames, crashing through the shot and rolling towards the target.

Wooper could only use its lifeless eyes to stare at its oncoming defeat. Which it did.

As Guts' body hit Wooper, it felt something knock its head.

Soon, it was encased within a pokéball.

Shake...

Shake...

Shake...

CLICK!

'Must not forget,' Bob took out the Pokédex.

"Wooper, the water fish Pokemon," It explained, drawing Bob in, "It usually lives in the ocean, but comes onto land to search for food. If on land, it can cover itself with a toxic, gooey substance."

Bob nodded and placed it back in his bag.

Once he did this, he saw a large amount of money in it. Then he saw a whole bunch of sandwiches.

It was worth it.

Zipping it closed, Bob continued the walk.

Since he was moving slower, he was not going to reach Azalea Town in time.

However, that time wasted was filled with a peaceful and tranquil march.

While strolling, Bob noticed a pretty nice spot to take a break.

'Time to bring out everyone,' Bob thought, releasing all his pokémon.

They all started at Wooper.

"He's your new friend," Bob said, looking at the Pokédex, "treat him well,"

"Geo?" Geodude looked at Wooper, while Wooper stared back, tilting his head.

"Spin!" Spinarak hid behind Geodude.

"Quilava," Guts spoke, trying to sound welcoming.

"Wooper." The water-type spoke, no emotion coming out of his reply.

"Pid-Pid..." Guts turned around and saw Dio hiding behind him with his wings covering his eyes.

"Quil?"

"Pidgey!" Dio tried not to look scared but still hid when Wooper looked in his direction.

"Wooper." The water-type walked to where Dio was, inspecting him.

Dio could only glare.

"Woop," Wooper walked a little closer.

The flying-type did the opposite by moving away.

"Pidgey!" Before that was broken by Dio flapping away, Wooper not far behind him.

Bob laughed while watching this, "You have a friend, Dio,"

"Anyway," He said, getting the attention of his team, "Resistance training. Geodude, first Spinarak, then Guts, alright?"

Geodude gave a thumbs up, while Spinarak trembled. Guts was jealous that Spinarak would go first.

"I'll be back in a minute," Bob spoke, walking away.

A few tens of feet later, Bob stood by a tree, releasing his one-eyed snake.

"Ahhh!" He sighed, feeling relief.

After he cleaned himself, he raised his hands and clenched them into fists.

'I have not done this in a long time,' He thought, spreading his legs a little, and bending his knees, 'my body is not ready for it, but a little shadowboxing won't hurt,'

"Pssh!" As he exhaled, his right fist shot forward, then twisted. Bob's right hip and leg turned as well.

"Pssh! Pssh! Vssh!" Bob then added a few side swings or crosses to the mix, while also dodging every few times.

'Let me be silly,' He thought, beginning to swing his body in a figure-eight movement, 'Nah, maybe not,'

He kept this up for a few more seconds before stopping to breathe.

However, he also heard another voice breathing heavily.

He turned around, and saw Guts on the floor, tired out.

Bob wanted to ask why he was here, but that was the wrong thing to ask.

"You saw my poor attempt at shadowboxing, huh?" He asked, bending down and patting the fire-type's head, "Were you trying to do it?"

Guts nodded.

"Please don't," Bob said, standing straight, "I'm not a good example. Plus, you don't need boxing in pokémon battling,"

Bob was kicking himself inwardly, remembering Hitmonchan.

"Quilava," Guts said, not convinced.

"Know what?" Bob said, "I'll try and teach you when you become a Typhlosion,"

Guts looked happy.

"But I'm not an expert, remember that," Bob said, walking, "let's get back to the others,"

As the fire-type followed him by his side, Bob's heart raced.

'...I got excited when I said that,' He thought, looking down at Guts, who seemed the same, 'I can't wait,'

When they reached the camp. Bob was confused.

Spinarak was sleeping and Geodude was taking a break, while Dio was on a tree branch, with his little follower staring at him.

On closer inspection, Dio was frightened, his body shaking, causing a few unlucky feathers to fall.

Bob sighed and returned Wooper.

"Pidgey..." Dio was beaming with relief, flying back down to the floor, bowing his head to Bob.

"you can rest now," Bob said, looking at Geodude, "Geodude, it's Guts' turn,"

"Geo!" Both of them faced each other, with Guts ready to take a few hits.

But he was pushed aside by Dio.

"Pidgey!" Dio cried, striking a JoJo pose.

"Quilava..." Guts didn't fight and just begged Geodude.

The rock-type looked at Bob, who did the same, and he launched a Rock Throw.

Dio was taken out of the pose. However, he needed to get back up. If Guts could do it, so could he. Dio did, though he struggled to.

"Keep doing that," Bob said, looking in his bag, 'Oh yeah, I didn't heal Wooper.'

He looked at the pokéball, 'yet he acted so normally,'

Bob had no intentions on Wooper, so he placed him into the bag.

'This backpack really is big,' Bob thought, digging comically deeper into it, 'Is that a sleeping bag? What the hell?"

The Pokédex took his mind off it.

As he opened it, a notification popped up.

'Spinarak has learned Infestation!'

'Cool, I will need to add him to the fray,' He thought, returning the bug.

"Pidgey!" He heard Dio scream and saw the flying-type fall to the ground, crawling away.

"Quilava!" Guts jumped, finally ready.

"Geo," Geodude was exhausted and told Guts straight.

It was as if the fire-type had lost his will to live.

"Don't worry, Guts," Bob said, returning Dio and Geodude, "there is always next time,"

"Quil," Guts was not pleased as Bob returned him as well.

He packed them back into his bag and picked it up.

'Was a short break,' Bob thought, walking, 'but worth it,'

As Bob was getting ready for a peaceful walk, something flickered in his eyes, ending that.

It was by a tree. The thing was shiny as if the sun gleamed off it.

'Fascinating,' Bob thought, walking towards it.

He was not wrong.
