Chapter 31

(A/N: I got many comments complaining about Webnovel and asking me to post it somewhere else. What happened?)

---

The Police forces busted into the arena, fighting the anti-benders among the crowd and arresting them. The metal benders were a nightmare to any Chi blocker. Their metal armours made it impossible to hit their Chi points.

Chen lifted his head. He was on the top of the roof. A new large airship appeared. From it, a cop jumped, linked to the ship with a metal string. Looking at the shape of the curvaceous body, he could tell she was the police chief.

Chen reached into his pocket and lit up a cigarette. Although fighting the equalists had ventured most of his anger, he was still a bit frustrated that Amon had escaped, with a minor injury of course.

Currently, he was sitting on a pile of unconscious humans — equalists.

After Amon had escaped, he went to the roof to fight them. Although a huge part of his Chi had been used, he could manage to fight for long, using Azure flames.

They weren't his best. But they had been deadly and damaging. Plus his techniques and speed and power, he could defeat most of the non-benders. The rest simply gave up. The notification was still ringing in his ears.

[Ding, you levelled up to level 18]

[+30.000 accumulated experience]

"Well." Lin Beifong stood up in front of the sitting Chen. Looking at the piles, she raised an eyebrow. She put her hands on her hips, looking at Chen, who was staring at the ground.

Seeing that he didn't respond, she said. "Are you going to act mute forever? Answer me; why whenever I come across the equalists I find you somehow involved."

"They attacked the arena. I'm a pro-bender." Chen looked at her.

"Like I wouldn't tell that." Beifong pointed her hand at Chen. A metal string that was under her arm guard flew. Like a whip, it split Chen's cigarette in half. He stared at her with wide-open eyes.

"Hey!" he exclaimed.

"Don't give me that puny face." She scolded. "You are a firebender. Your fire depends on your breathing, not your muscles."

Chen lowered his head. She had a point, a good one. But having the green healing flame could fix the damage in his lungs. So it should be okay for him.

Exhaling a sigh, he looked at her and smiled. "Thank you, mommy."

"I'm not your mommy." She clicked her tongue at him. "At any rate, you should stand up from this pile; I need my team to arrest them for interrogation."

Chen jumped off the human pile. He stood up next to Lin. Looking at the human pile, he scratched his hair.

"How much they are?" Lin asked.

Honest, Chen replied, "I didn't bother counting them."

"…" Lin blinked twice, her eyes turning to him. She then stared forward and muttered. "Show off."

"Excuse me."

"Nothing matters."

Lin turned to her men who were jumping from the airship. They came and started tying the anti-benders.

"Anyway. I have a question." Chen said, stopping Beifong from leaving.

She turned to her, arms crossed. "Is it about Tarrlok?"

"Yes." Chen frowned. "How in the hell did he appear before I know anything."

"They attacked the jail, and they took the bending of almost everyone. Tarrlok was freed. When the news reached me, I dashed to the jail. That's when he came to the pro-bending arena."

He asked a second question. "I'm just wondering, how did Amon know that you captured his Tarrlok."

"I don't know honestly. But I'm planning to find out who split the information out." She said. "The suspect circle is wide."

"I'll leave it to you."

"By the way, I may have a request." She said. "It would be a good chance for someone like you to change their ways for to better. It's redemption for you."

"Don't bother with the indirect speech. Just say what you want and finish it with the magical word, which is 'please,'."

Lin opened her eyes widely and furrowed her eyebrows at Chen. She clenched her teeth. It seemed that he got under her skin. Chen held his chuckle.

"Me saying 'please' to you. You have some nerve to say that to me." Lin said, standing on her toes and putting her face next to Chen's.

"Easy up, grandma," Chen smirked. He found her action, despite her age, cute.

"First mommy and now a grandma. What next, your great grandma!? Why can't you be easy to talk to like a decent human being."  She crossed her arms and turned her face. "Fine, I'll spell it. You are reliable, and I may need your help later. You are so far the only one who could stand against bloodbending."

"And?" Chen raised his eyebrow, waiting for her to say, please.

"Don't push your luck." She walked away and said. "I'll visit you by the weekend, which is tomorrow."

Chen said. "Please don't. I'll be the one to visit you."

"Surprisingly you have manners."

'Not really. Asami and I would fuck, and I don't want you to come in.'

He shrugged. At any rate, he didn't mind helping her since they have the same enemy.

However, Chen would make sure not to help her for free.

She would have to give him another free pass.

He stared at her back as she left. 'She looks nice for her age. But I guess her attitude made her single. Good for her.'

He shrugged and turned.

At any rate, the best time to attack Amon isn't tomorrow or after.

The equalists had suffered a lot, and Amon was injured by him. However, this world still has healers.

Although healing Amon may take a long time for a waterbender, it would heal him completely at some point.

Attacking as soon as possible would be the best option. All Chen had to do is to meet Hiroshi and get the location of the equalists. It would be good to end them up for once and all.

-x-X-x-

Chen went back to the arena now the situation was under control.

People were looking at him with wide-open eyes whenever he passed.

He went to the VIP seats, which were on the top of the arena.

Asami was there, joining her hands together. Her face drew anxiety. She had been there when the equalists attacked.

Chen entered her room while she was standing next to the window.

Just as she turned and glanced at him, she opened her arms and ran toward him. He opened his arms for her. She hugged him with strength.

Chen patted her back and looked behind her. Her hug was so strong that he could feel it.

He currently was getting a strange feeling. It wasn't a biological reaction. It was warm, so warm. It's not his first time hugging a woman. But it's his first time feeling something like that.

'What's this? My heart, it's not beating faster. Yet it is feeling hotter.' He closed his hand on her and patted her back. Although the good feeling in the heart wasn't biological, the biological reaction was still there.

Asami pulled back and looked at his face. "I was scared. I was worried when that bloodbender made you float."

"Don't worry now. I'm safe." Chen put his hand on her face and grabbed her cheek.

She smiled. "Why didn't you turn when I screamed."

'She did?' Chen smiled and said. "I didn't want them to know I'm in a relationship with you, so they wouldn't attack you."

They wouldn't anyway, since she was the daughter of Hiroshi.

"Chen." Called a voice.

Asami and Chen turned to the window. Korra entered from it. She seemed to awake. Chen had wondered how she'd lost her consciousness when he'd destroyed the airships. But a lot could happen in a short time. She may haven't had the power to handle the electrocution from the anti-benders devices. Amon may also bloodbent her so she wouldn't dodge. But she had done a good job anyway.

"Hey, Korra."

"Oh, this is the girl who had been with you that day. The Avatar, right." Asami turned to Korra and smiled.

Korra shot her a not-so-nice glance, before looking at Chen. She said. "I have heard about what happened. He's escaped."

Asami's smile froze.

"Yep." Chen nodded.

"Your teammate said you injured him," Korra said. "If that's right. Shouldn't we be attacking their base?"

"Can you handle fighting Tarrlok?"

Korra shook her head. Her eyes then lit up. She said. "But If I released lightning before he could even bend me, I will win."

"Easy said than done. Moreover, we don't know if they would kidnap a healer."

"I don't think they would. Katara, the best healer, was my mentor at the south pole. Internal burning damage is hard to heal. It would take more than a week to heal it completely. You may have pierced his guts. So he wouldn't be active for the next few days."

Chen didn't share her same opinion.

Amon was the most talented waterbender and had the strongest bloodline.

At a very young age, he could bend a bunch of huge animals with his mind alone.

Now that he is old, what could he do? He wouldn't wonder if Amon could heal himself with water.

'I've left things for Korra to do once, and I won't make that mistake again.'

Chen looked at Korra and he smiled. "Wanna ambush their base."

With the current level of lightningbending she had, she was a strong alley. Chen considered going alone. But it would be much of an annoyance

"Wait, you know where they are."

"Not yet, but I will after Beifong interrogates them."

"Urgh. I swear, That woman hates me for a reason I don't know."

"She doesn't hate you. She acts like that toward everyone." Chen shrugged.

Asami stood up between Chen and Korra, covering Korra from view. "Hold on, if you are going to do something under your hands. I will go with you."

"But that would be dangerous." Chen put his hand on her hair. "I don't want to see you hurt."

"Oh trust me. I'm not weak." Asami said.

"I know." If Chen recalled correctly, she was very good at martial arts. She could fight a bunch of Chi blockers alone.

"By the way. Our date tomorrow, it's still up." Asami said, hugging Chen back.

"I'll think of it." Chen hugged her. He looked at Korra. She was cringing from seeing him hugging his girlfriend. Winking at her, he hinted that they won't take Asami.

"Let me take you home," Chen said, pulling away from the hug and taking her hand.

He needed to go home and meet Hiroshi. He would know where Amon was. The best time to attack is now.

"By the way, what's the relationship between you and the Avatar," Asami said, turning and looking at Korra with half-closed eyes.

"I've taught her lightningbending. You can say we temporarily are fighting on the same side."

"Temporarily," Korra muttered, looking at the ground and exhaling.

"Korra, let's meet later, tomorrow, by dawn."

Asami, who seemed to feel something, looked at Chen with a warning glance.

Chen only shrugged.

"Sure." She said.
