Chapter Twenty-Six

Everything settled as much as it could be expected. Wen Ah-Cy's Aunts took her body to prepare her for burial, as Wei Wuxian stayed in the cottage cradling the young boy in his arms. Wei Wuxian missed this, holding a young one in his arms, even if it was to be short-lived. Lan Wangji had to return to the cottage on the mountain to let Jiang Yanli know they wouldn't be back for some time, and he doesn't know how long. Quickly before Lan Wangji left Jiang Yanli gathered food for Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxain.

Back in Wen Ah-Cy's home, Wei Wuxian was feeding the young boy warm goat's milk from a sack he turned into a small bottle for the baby to drink out of. Coming into the home was Grandma Wen who has been crying all the way here from the village over. She comes over to stare at the newborn in Wei Wuxian's arms and smiles fondly, "He looks so much like my A-Cy." she claims.

"Yes he does," Wei Wuxian agrees.

"Though he does have A-Yuan's nose." she laughs remembering Wen Yuan complaining about it as he grew up. "They made such a lovely couple, and now they have made such a beautiful son."

"A-Yuan." Wei Wuxian mutters under his breath. "She would have liked that, Lady Wen. If her son honors her husband by giving their son his name."

"A-Yuan," she said thoughtfully and smiles brightly as she looks down at the baby. "She was right about you. You would make the perfect guardian for young A-Yuan."

Shocked by this claim Wei Wuxian looks up startled, "I take in A-Yuan? I couldn't! I can't take their place and take him away from his family, you guys deserve to raise him, not some stranger that so happened to run into young Lady Wen." Wei Wuxian tries to pass the baby over to his grandma

Shaking her head, and pushing A-Yuan closer to Wei Wuxian. She moves off to the side of the house to only come back with a letter in her hands and gives him it. Looking even more confused, Wei Wuxian sits in a chair nearby placing A-Yuan in his lap before opening the letter and inside it read:

Dear Young Master Wei,

I hope this letter finds you well, but if you are given this letter that must mean I must have made it out of childbirth, and I passed on to the next life. First off please don't feel sorry for me as it means I would be reunited with A-Yuan, as that reminds me. If I don't make it I would like my child to honor one of us. For a boy, he should be named Wen Yuan, and for a girl, her name shall be Wen Ah-Cy after me. Though I have a feeling you would know what to name them when their time is right.

As for the other thing, for your child's future, I know this is asking much, but I would like them to be in your care, as you have been one of the kindest person I've ever come across, and I don't know why but I feel like I can trust you with their safety. Also if possible please let my child know their family, though I doubt you would take them away from their family.

I know you carry so much grief and burden on your shoulders, I could tell by the sorrow in your eyes, and I hope my child can bring back some light in your life, Wei Wuxian. Just know if you decided you can't and you would rather leave our child with our family to raise then that is also fine, I wouldn't want you to feel pressured into this, I just hope my child, whatever path you choose for them, that they will grow up in loving care which I know whichever way you choose, they will be.

Sincerely, Your friend

Wen Ah-Cy

The tears wouldn't stop at the end of the letter. He wouldn't even let them stop because he knows he needs to cry. A-Yuan starts to cry as well as if he could feel Wei Wuxian's grief and wishes to take some of those tears for his mother's friend.

"Whatever you choose, Young Master Wei isn't going to be the wrong choice, and now we will be here every step of the way to help raise A-Yuan." Grandma Wen says.

Laughing slightly Wei Wuxian says, "That's not what I am worried about Grandma Wen, I just don't want to separate him from you but I guess I wouldn't have to." Grandma Wen nods knowing he made up his mind, as she watches Wei Wuxian look fondly at the small bundle, as Wei Wuxian looks down fondly at his son.

Lan Wangji came back as soon as he could to be by Wei Wuxian's side again to see through the window was Wei Wuxian smiling happily down at the newborn. He wasn't sure what he missed, but for sure Lan Wangji knew things are changing, and he felt glad for that genuine smile on Wei Wuxian's beautiful face, wishing it would never leave him again, even if it meant it could only be brought by the newborn Wen that was in his arms.
