Chapter Forty-Eight

Days passed from that night in the Nightless City, and both Jin Guangshan and Jin Guangyao died by fire after learning their crimes that they committed against the ex-cultivation world and to the God who gave them all life. Wei Wuxian found himself on the mountains of Yiling when he knew he wasn't alone. Still not paying much attention he played the song he conducted for him and his Love back to Nie Shi.

"Wei Ying." Lan Wangji calls out to him.

"You know I've waited for you to be reborn again Lan Zhan. In your previous life, you were the Sect. Leader and founder of Qinghe Nie, believing injustice. I never expected how far you would have fallen in this life by following the most popular opinion without any evidence to back it up." Wei Wuxian couldn't even look at him.

"I let Wei Ying down." La Wangji says sadly.

"Yes you did and I don't think I can forgive you for that betrayal, Lan Zhan," he says. "But I believe I can forgive your next life as it seems we were meant to be together in one way or another. If it is to be lovers or brothers or even just friends I believe we will find each other again."

Wei Wuxian finally gathered the courage to turn to Lan Wangji but it was already too late, Wei Wuxian was disappearing, turning to gold dust. Freaking out Lan Wangji runs over Wei Wuxian grabbing his hands in his, "NO DON'T GO!" Lan Wangji pleads.

"It's too late now Lan Wangji, I already sent it into motion. I am going on to another life as a normal human. But don't worry in one life or another we will find each other again."

Lan Wangji was crying, "Will miss Wei Ying."

Wei Wuxian smiles and gifts Lan Wangji with one more kiss before whispering, "Take care of our son for me, and never let him down as you have done to me."

"I promise." Lan Wangji whispers back before Wei Wuxian disappears completely from his arms, making him crumble to the ground in a heap holding his chest and crying in agony at the loss of his soulmate. He will hold this pain and guilt for the rest of his life and possibly onto the next.
