Path to Dual Cultivation

Blessed by the heavens, Su Yang was born with an extraordinarily handsome appearance that could sway even the coldest beauties and innate sword talents that would make even the Sword Emperor green with envy. Su Yang thought for the longest that he would spend his life swinging a sword, but little did he know that fate had something entirely different in store for him. Instead of swinging a sword, he would be thrusting a different kind of ‘sword’. Rather than perfecting his sword techniques, he would be learning massage techniques. This is a story of how a sword prodigy ended up walking the path of dual cultivation and becoming the most powerful dual cultivator under heaven. -------------- Note: This novel is the prequel to Dual Cultivation, but it doesn't require any knowledge from Dual Cultivation to understand so anyone can start reading without worry. Some terms/plots might differ from Dual Cultivation.

The Perfect Combination

Bai Yufeng slowly opened his eyes when he sensed Senior Wu's presence approaching him from a distance.

"To find me so soon, did something happen? Or have you already come to a decision?" Bai Yufeng asked when Senior Wu landed before him.

"My disciple has come to a decision. He will accept your offer." Senior Wu said.

"Are you sure? There's no need to rush such a big decision."

"Yes, we are sure. Regardless of his decision, it is a fact that he's too talented for a place as small as the Fleeting Sword Sect."

Senior Wu clasped his hands together and slightly lowered his head, "Please, take good care of my disciple."

Bai Yufeng stood up and walked to stand in front of Senior Wu before placing a hand on his shoulder.

"That's only a natural. And I may be providing him with a cultivation technique and giving him some guidance, but ultimately, you are still his master."

"Thank you, Senior Bai. The Fleeting Sword Sect owes you a great favor."

"Don't even mention it. I am doing this because it already benefits me and my sect greatly." Bai Yufeng shook his head.

He continued, "Anyway, I will leave for a few weeks to prepare. I also need to let my sect know of the situation here since the cultivation technique isn't something I can just hand out without approval. Naturally, they wouldn't refuse the chance to covet someone with the Boundless Yang Constitution."

Sometime later, Bai Yufeng left while Senior Wu returned to the Fleeting Sword Sect, where he spent the next several weeks improving Su Yang's swordsmanship while getting him ready to utilize Yang Qi.

"There are two methods that are most commonly used by cultivators to utilize their Yang Qi. The first method is related to dual cultivators, so I won't mention it. The second method, which you'll be practicing in the near future, requires you to convert your Yang Qi into an element, such as fire, which also happens to be the most used element due to its efficiency and performance."

"For example…"

Senior Wu retrieved a sword and proceeded to envelop the blade with so much spiritual energy that it became visible to the eyes like it was exuding an aura.

"Men are naturally born with Yang Qi while women are born with Yin Qi, but my Yang Qi is too weak to convert it into actual fire, so just use your imagination for now and imagine my sword being engulfed in flames."

"Flames created by Yang Qi have a different property compared to ordinary flames found on candles and whatnot. They are much hotter and powerful—enough to even melt an entire star if your Yang Qi is strong enough."

"When it comes to Yang Qi, while having quantity is important, you need to focus on improving its quality the most."

"The better quality of your Yang Qi, the fiercer the flames, and the more quality, the longer you'll be able to sustain your flames—sort of like Alchemy."

Su Yang absorbed all of Senior Wu's teaching like a dry sponge.

Five weeks passed in the blink of an eye, and Bai Yufeng returned to the Fleeting Sword Sect with a smile on his face.

"I have received approval from my sect to pass down this cultivation technique to Su Yang." Bai Yufeng showed the thin manual in his grasp to Senior Wu and Han Jiangzhi.

"How long will you stay here to teach him?" Han Jianzhi asked.

"I will stay for as long as needed, but I will be satisfied once he fully comprehends the cultivation technique and successfully reaches True Spirit Realm, which will probably still take him a few years."

"Also, there are strict rules that I must abide by, such as not being allowed to teach him any techniques from the Divine Yang Sword Mountain until he becomes a disciple in the distant future. However, I am free to teach him any techniques that don't belong to the sect."

After chatting for a bit, Senior Wu brought Bai Yufeng to find Su Yang, who was waiting for them in front of his living quarters.

"This junior greets Senior Bai." Su Yang greeted him once they arrived.

"..."

However, Bai Yufeng didn't respond.

He simply stood there with a dazed expression on his face as he silently glared at Su Yang's devilishly handsome appearance.

"Y-you…"

Since Su Yang wore his mask during their initial meeting, Bai Yufeng wasn't aware of his appearance.

After seeing Su Yang's face which was undoubtedly superior to his own, Bai Yufeng swallowed nervously and thought to himself, 'Heaven, oh heaven… why would you give someone blessed with such a handsome appearance the Boundless Yang Constitution? Are you purposefully provoking the dual cultivators or something?'

"I apologize for wearing a mask before. I am usually wearing one so I didn't even realize it." Su Yang said a moment later when Bai Yufeng remained silent.

"O-oh, there's no need to apologize. I wasn't expecting someone with the Boundless Yang Constitution to have such a… pleasant-looking appearance."

"Huh? So you thought he was wearing a mask because he was ugly? But what does that have anything to do with the Boundless Yang Constitution?" Senior Wu couldn't help but ask.

Bai Yufeng showed a bittersweet smile and said, "Having the Boundless Yang Consitution is already a heaven-defying talent, so one would expect the heavens to balance things out by giving him a negative trait—as they typically do. Since the Boundless Yang Constitution affects dual cultivators the most, it would make sense to make him incredibly ugly to deter dual cultivators from approaching him."

"Now that you mention it… that does make sense, as there have been plenty of cases where cultivators born with heaven-defying talent are also cursed with an incurable sickness and die an early death or something that prevents them from using their talents to the fullest…" Senior Wu muttered with a look of realization on his face.

Bai Yufeng nodded, "Many claim the heavens to be fair, but it's undoubtedly an envious phenomenon—at least that's what I believe. Why else would it constantly try to hinder cultivators when they are about to achieve greatness with Heavenly Tribulations?"

"Anyways, you are incredibly lucky, Su Yang, for you have managed to slip through heaven's blind spot and were born with the perfect combination—a handsome appearance and the Boundless Yang Constitution. I can already imagine what the world of dual cultivation will do once they learn of your existence." Bai Yufeng chuckled in a joking manner.

However, Senior Wu's expression darkened after hearing such words, and he sighed, "A-about that…"
