Zhorian inheritance

9

"Yes, Vritra, you can ask your question. " Bonnie spoke. He was completely awake now because of the Deacon's presence.

" Is there a guarantee of our safety? What are we supposed to do in case of danger, and we don't even know anything about this inheritance? " Vritra spoke in a plain, loud voice.

What a joke!!

A guarantee of the safety of the attendants?

That has to be the biggest joke.

We are all just slaves to the Sanctum with a sweet name labelled upon us all.

What does it matter even if we die?

They have already obtained more work from these slaves than what the amount they had paid to buy them.

Even if they all die, the Sanctum could just get more slaves, there is no shortage after all.

As for their lives, that amounts to nothing.

Even if all of us are killed openly by the Sanctum in the middle of the street, people would just watch us with pity. There won't be any consequences.

The Sanctum won't be punished. It would be in the talks for some time, but then everyone will forget about it.

Despite there being several laws similar to Earth, the lives of people here were much cheaper compared to the ones on Earth, especially ordinary people.

Vritra knew about this fact, but this question was just a way to make the others aware that this isn't some sightseeing and that they might really die.

Right now, I am weak and I can't even defend myself against a bunch of normal men. It would be better to use them for now.

Vritra's words had the intended effect on the group. They all quieted down, and their excitement seemed to have dimmed quite a bit.

"Haha. So there is someone rational among the bunch of hot-blooded young people. " The deacon finally arrived there as he chuckled and spoke in his thin and high-pitched voice.

His rat-like face could have been a topic to joke about, but his unquestionable strength and status made everyone nervous around him.

All the attendants lowered their heads. Even the head attendant, Bobbie, looked extremely fearful in front of the deacon.

The deacon wore a light purple robe. His short black hair waved as fresh air hit his face. The emblem of the goddess glowed as the faint sunlight fell onto it.

There were two moons under the emblem of the deacon, displaying his status, which was above all but over person in this branch of the Sanctum.

" Bless the Brave!! " All people gathered there speed at the same time with their right hands' palms pressing against the goddess emblem.

" Hope will lead. " The deacon said similarly, then they all relaxed and paid attention to his words.

" I will answer your questions, but before that... " The Deacon glanced towards the head attendant, making Bonnie shrink under his gaze. After which he whispered something.

Bonnie nodded his head several times with his back hunched to show his respect to the deacon. Then he turned towards the two of his underlings and gave them some orders.

The two listened carefully before running away as fast as they could.

" Zhorian inheritance. I am sure you must have already heard about the name of the place you will be going to." The deacon smiled.

He was trying to imitate the smile of the priest, but his rat-like face looked really strange.

Everyone nodded.

They didn't dare to even raise their heads unless told to do so. Vritra did the same.

He didn't want to stand out for no reason, especially when he had no strength to even run and escape from these people.

" Zhorian was a prodigy several dozens of years ago. But unlike what one may assume, he wasn't from any noble family. Instead, he was from a family which used to work in a mine close to their village inside the continent.

Surprising, right? He surpassed the talent of most of the noble children and quickly rose to the 4th Gate, becoming very strong and famous.

But unfortunately, while he was away, his family was attacked by a bunch of bandits, which slaughtered almost the entire village.

Enraged, he decided to seek revenge, but those bandits weren't as simple. He was severely wounded in his battle against them, so in his last moments, he set up an inheritance.

I had heard rumors that he found the breeding cave of some beasts and then chose it as his resting place, so it must be filled with everything he possessed. " The deacon explained, looking at the attendants.

' I am not sure how much of that story is true, but one thing is for sure: he must already be aware of the type of beasts present there. They are treating us all as sacrifices. ' Vritra thought without a change in his expression.

" Do any of you have any more doubts? " The deacon looked around and, seeing no one raising their hands, he looked back at Vritra and continued:

" You don't have to worry about your safety. Over thirty rune masters will be there with you all. You can rely on them. "

Just then, the two attendants came running back while carrying two boxes in their hands.

" Still, in case you find yourself in any kind of danger where the rune masters are busy with other things, you can defend yourself using these.

At least you would be able to buy more time for yourself. " Deacon added, as he displayed the contents of the boxes.

They were filled with dozens of kitchen knives.

' Are they serious? We are supposed to fight the dangerous creatures with a kitchen knife? ' Vritra shook his head internally.

All of them were being treated as disposals, so openly at that.

Then each of the attendants got one knife. The other hot-blooded teenagers felt excited by the upcoming adventure, but Vritra's words had undoubtedly put a seed of fear in their hearts.

" Now that we are done with these things, let me introduce the rune masters whom you would be following for the next few weeks. " The deacon spoke while pointing towards his right, where a group of men and women was standing.

There were thirty people, wearing different kinds of clothes. Some wore robes, some wore leather armors, and some even wore tight battle suits.

But there was one thing common among all thirty of the rune masters: they had a scowl on their faces as they gazed at the ten attendants and the Deacon.

These rune masters all belonged to the Korvyn family, and the emperor had tasked the Monethian Sanctum to help these people.

But then the main branch gave them a letter and instructed them to go to the Qortern city, where they would be provided with sufficient help.

After crossing the long and dangerous forest, during which many of them got injured and barely managed to survive with their life, they finally managed to arrive in the Qortern city.

They needed some strong rune masters who could be provide any kind of assisstance while battling against the dangers of the inheritance.

At least, they should be at the 2nd Gate.

And now, the Sanctum was providing them with these slaves who could at most be used to carry some luggage; they can't even be used as baits.

Of course, the rune masters from the Korvyn family were angry, but they could do nothing now; the priest had explained why he was unable to provide any more help.

Because of the emperor's order they can't even refuse these attendants now.

" If we only needed some useless slaves, we could have obtained countless of them in the continent; we travelled all the way here just for this?" One of the rune masters spoke angrily; this was an open insult to them and their noble family.

" We hadn't expected anything from them anyway; we can use this chance to have a nice talk with the empire." The leader of the group spoke, his voice calm.

" This is Dax Korvin; he is the one leading the group, so all of you make sure to follow every single one of his orders." The deacon spoke; then he turned his head, not saying a word about the other rune masters.

Vritra observed the group; most of those people were wearing full-sleeve clothes, but a few were wearing sleeveless or half-sleeves.

And one thing he noticed was that all of them had strange tattoos drawn over their right arms; the patterns for each person were completely different from each other and very complex; thin and thick lines were weaving around, some crossed paths while others took strange turns.

Among those people, the tattoos of most were made of entirely black colour, yet it had a strange aura around it, which gave off a feeling that it was much more than just a tattoo.

The leader wore a half-sleeves leather jacket. His tattoos were made of green lines. They looked much more complex compared to the others.

From the top of their hands, the tattoos were stretched up to their wrists. They looked random and a little messy, but they stood out quite a lot. It seemed these people were proud of these tattoos as they openly disaplyed them.

' Are those tattoos some kind of family symbol? But I feel there is more to them. ' Vritra thought as he observed the rune masters.

" I have a gift for you all before you leave. I'm sure you would enjoy it a lot, " Deacon spoke to the ten attendants, a wide smile plastered on his rat like face.
