Amon wasn't shaken in the least bit by these words, his mind calm as he remained silent and continued staring at Delilah, waiting for her to continue.
"But beyond all that, there's a lot you don't know. You're a diamond in the rough, and it'd be a waste if you didn't set a proper foundation now. While you may be a genius, able to understand aether and the like at speeds I can't fathom, there are still things you can't genius your way into, you know?"
Amon scratched his cheek and nodded in agreement. On that point, he couldn't deny.
"As for what I gain? Status. That's all it is." She grinned. "You may not know it, but us elders get commissions based on the amount of geniuses we raise and their quality."
"This reason is both why the elders of the court were mad at you and why you weren't killed. They still have hope that you may cower and come back crawling to them so they may raise you. That's why they let this attack happen."
