The Shadow of Death

"So this is a Heavenly Kingdom? There doesn't appear to be a difference between it and Dominion." Ainz examined the world around him, noticing the lush vibrant lands full of animals.

He guessed if he had chosen a Fire Heavenly Kingdom, there would be nothing but flames. Thankfully he chose a God of Nature's Heavenly Kingdom. His powers over death are highly affected in such places; sadly he can't show his full power while impersonating a warrior.

Standing behind the fully armored Overlord, Chrono had a similarly fascinated body language, "Maybe that's the path of the gods, having a fully operational world at their whims. If that is the case, you would be considered a god."

Chrono glanced back towards Dominion and wondered if it was also a Heavenly Kingdom. If it was, whose?

"There had to be more to it than that; because if this is true, the Eight Greed Kings and Six Great Gods who conquer the world at one point, would also be divinities."

Chrono silently ponders, "There are differences between divinities. In Yggdrasil, the Norse Gods are the same as a Jotnar but because they decide to walk along different paths, a new name was given to them, Aesir. It doesn't matter if one is a divinity or not, they would become a god if the people believe them to be one."

Ainz looks at the handsome man, "In the beginning, I was but a mere Overlord, but now? I'm the Supreme Being of a world; with many willing to die for me. I doubt other divinities would have such fanatical worshipers like me."

Ainz grabbed an item from his inventory. The item was placed inside a glass bottle with chains surrounding it, keeping whatever inside contained, "Now, let the carnage begin."

'I apologize in advance for all those in this world; don't curse me, curse fate. At the very least you will serve me for all eternity within the .'

Chrono's eyes look pitiful as he looks at the bottle. In the end, this bottle of death couldn't remain sealed. He felt no sadness for those who are about to die; as death was another way of life. He just felt it was a pity to waste so much potential, for such a miniscule gain.

Their souls would be used to propel Ainz to a higher level. Because of how it's used, the souls cannot be freed even with a World Item.

Cracking the bottle open, black mist escapes and spreads out like smoke, starting from their location. As the mist moved, the ground, trees, animals, even the skies became gray and gloomy. Everything began to die and decay at an alarming rate.

The more the Breath of Death eats the surroundings, the faster and more condensed it becomes, before eventually, blocking out the rays of the sun and moons.

If someone from the Ainz era had seen the Breath of Death, they would realize it was similar to the pollution on Earth. The only difference would be the strength and the rate it spread. Even a little bit of it could destroy Earth, as nothing there could stop it.

Standing, Ainz began to feel the long lost sensation of experience point, entering his body, pushing it to an unprecedented level for a player.

In Yggdrasil, the limit of players was level 100; and while items and spells could make them even stronger, the set limit cannot be broken.

There are classes such as World Disaster or World Champion whose powers are beyond level 100, but their level is still level 100. They each have a flaw that makes up for the power they get.

World Disaster has a large mana pool, capable of casting spells that can destroy a large area but weakened by a long mana regeneration time. They were essentially glass cannons.

World Champions are those who have great physical powers capable of battling against those of the same level. Their weakness is having a little amount of mana.

As the Breath of Death spread across the land, in the center of the Heavenly Kingdom; inside a palace full of maidens, a woman with blue hair frowned and appeared in the skies, looking shocked and furious.

The world she spent millions of years creating is dying, causing her children to suffer and hide in fear. Not only that, the area this black fog resides in is no longer under her control. It was like something rewrote the laws of her Heavenly Kingdom, which should be impossible, since the Heavenly Kingdom was created with one's divine power!

Looking at the source of the ever-increasing mist, she saw two figures, a warrior clad in black armor with two greatswords behind him.

Following behind him like a servant is a young man wearing a black robe, with black and white hair and clocks for eyes looking in her direction.

She notices that as time passes, the warrior power seems to grow, making her even more furious. He was making her world his sacrifice to increase his strength.

"How dare you! You invade my Heavenly Kingdom and want to destroy it; don't think about it!" The raging blue-haired woman raised her hands and the world started to change, the land, the skies, the trees, everything disappeared and was replaced with an ocean.

The Breath of Death stops moving, not being able to invade places without life. However since it already invaded a portion of the world, that piece was the only land floating on the ocean.

Ainz frowned, he had broken through level 100, reaching level 111; and could still reach higher. However, this person interfered, making level 111 his new limit until he created another bottle of the Breath of Death.

The Breath of Death takes many resources and energy to produce. It would take him around a hundred years just to collect the materials needed, let alone successfully creating another Breath of Death.

Though mad, Ainz didn't look at the goddess but at the screen in front of him. He was so familiar with it, as it was the player customization page from Yggdrasil. As players level up, this would pop up to help customize the build of the player.

The pop up had a list of spells, from tier one to Super Tier spells. Since this was not his first time, he could guess he could only pick four high tier spells, one Super Tier Spell, and increase his stats.

From the long list of spells, Ainz was able to quickly choose since he already knew what he lacked. Although he got stronger, he was not without weakness.

The high spells he chose are , , , and .

would allow him to regain some semblance of a normal life again. He could transform into a human again and it will be hard press to see through since it's not an illusion.

is an upgraded version of the series. It will grant him a domain that his power was upgraded in. His summons and his death oriented spells will get a noticeable boost. And since it was an upgrade from the Aura of Death series, it means all of its abilities are active in it.

allows him to create miracles via either exp or sacrifices. The more exp and sacrifice use, the more powerful the one can create is.

The choosing of this was to see if he could bypass some of Yggdrasil rules. However, he didn't have a sacrifice readily at hand.

This goddess was still more powerful than him, it was not worth it to tangle with her and die.

is a spell Ainz wishes he had for a while now. He could control death but cannot resurrect the dead without the Wand of Resurrection. Technically as long as he sacrifices someone who possesses the spell with , he could gain it but no one, outside Nazarick, possesses this high tier spell.

Though his subordinates would be happy to die for him, Ainz will never sacrifice them.

As for the Super Tier Spell, he chose ; as he will be able to decimate a large area with destruction that will not end until the user cancels it.

No time passed before Ainz activated his spell, curious about what its effects were. The Breath of Death reacted and surged towards him, creating a connection with him.

With this connection he could see everything inside the Breath of Death, giving him the feeling he could control it.

Goddess of Nature Blue Whale hesitated about what to do. She can only make her Heavenly Kingdom an ocean for a while before it returns to normal. When it returns to normal, his children will continue to die, something she will not allow.

The more of her children that died, the longer it will take to recover after this battle is over. So she wanted to end it, now!

She could sense she was more powerful than the two invaders but her instinct was telling her to say away.

While prideful, Blue Whale would not ignore what has made her the figure she was today.

Thinking for a moment, her eyes became cold. " I didn't want to do this, but you left me with no choice. I will at most fall into a slumber for a couple of thousand years, a price I'm willing to pay for your insolence!" Using her divine power, she cut off the land under the control of the Breath of Death, separate from her Heavenly Kingdom.

Her face became pale, with no trace of blood visible. Her eyes became unfocused with blood leaking to the corner of her lips.

As an Outer God, one could change their Heavenly Kingdom however they wanted but separating a part of it, was cutting a part of one's soul away.

One's Heavenly Kingdom was the reflection of one's way to power. The stronger it was, the stronger the path or method they used to create it.

Amongst the Outer Gods, Blue Whale was not the strongest but she was stronger than a Demigod(Demiurgic God) and could probably equal a True God.

"I, Blue Whale, according to the ancient rites, I offer this sacred land as a sacrifice to the Ancient God. I beseech you, grant my plea and unleash your divine fury upon these imbeciles, erasing them from my realm and restoring order."

Ainz frowned at the goddess' actions and felt someone dangerous was about to happen.

As soon as Blue Whale's voice faded, an omnipresent power permeated the area, with an old and indifferent voice reply, "Your tribute, I accept."

"This…." What kind of power was this? Even a World Enemy was not an opponent of this…being? Just how strong was this so-called Ancient God?

Two large eyes opened, staring through space and time, seeing Ainz and Chrono.

A finger appeared above the land where Ainz and Chrono were standing, before descending rapidly causing windstorms and sonic booms.

Ainz unsummoned his armor, casting , which caused a rift in reality to appear, flickering in and out of existence, seemingly unstable.

Chrono on the other hand cast some of his spells, halting the giant finger for a split second, before jumping inside the .

The universe went silent, as half of the Outer Gods around the Heavenly Kingdom of the Goddess of Nature Blue Whale died, before being resurrected by the Ancient God, "They are lucky, I was curious so I didn't attack them seriously. It's a pity, it seems I will have to give Blue Whale back her land, as I failed to erase them, though I'm not sure she can handle it."
