Death Emperor

Chapter 16: Death Emperor

Going through his inventory, Ainz equipped the Staff of Ainz Ooal Gown, feeling the increase in his stats immediately.

Even without the guild weapon, Ainz was already pretty strong, but with it, his skills and spells experienced a noticeable improvement. This is mainly because the guild weapon was created for him.

<Fly >

Ainz flew towards the peak of the mountain, after making sure Ariella was not in harm's way.

Ariella, even though she had gotten stronger, was no match for what could possibly be inside the mountain. Just standing outside was already difficult for her, let alone what might be inside.

Ainz had used one of the few barrier spells he had to protect her, but its defensive abilities were almost nonexistent. The barrier is able to protect an area from all attacks below the Sixth Tier.

This was the best that could be expected from Ainz. Even though he had learned many spells through Dark Wisdom, it was impossible for him to be adept in every aspect. His field of expertise was instant death magic, not defense magic.

Still, it was incredible that he could play many roles in a party, as he was very versatile.

<Gaia Barrier> is named after the Greek primordial goddess of the Earth - Gaia, who gave birth to mythological figures of Ancient Greece.

The barrier is weak to Players but the advantage is the fact that the barrier cannot be destroyed when it's in contact with the earth. Even if one blows a hole into it, eventually it will regenerate.

Thankfully, Ariella was not prideful and could see Ainz's reasoning. If she went with Ainz, she would most likely drag him down.

With Ariella not being a concern, Ainz returned to his cautious and prepared nature, honed after centuries of experience.

It would be a lie to say he was not happy with Ariella's addition to the family but as she was too weak, he couldn't let her leave his sight.

Arriving at the peak of the mountain, in the air, Ainz cast a self made Super Tier Spell, <Legion of Death>.

Technically, <Legion of Death> is a Tenth Tier Spell with no limits, so that's why Ainz decided it was a Super Tier or even, above spell.

Anyone Ainz kills after the creation of this spell is incapable of being resurrected and will forever be added to his rank of undead. The more he kills, the more powerful his army becomes.

This spell was just like <Soul Eye>, it is a spell created to eliminate a weakness.

Ainz realized that no matter how strong he was, there were others out there, who would be stronger. Just as he was growing, so were others.

He did not know where to begin, and after many trials and errors creating other spells, Ainz ended up with <Legion of Death>.

It was the most powerful spell in his arsenal.

Those killed by him would have their souls enter a space that was dominated by his will. Once they leave, they would appear in an undead body with similar power to when they were alive.

That is to say, if Ainz truly wanted, he could constantly kill the descending Players, and slowly grow his army to a terrifying stage.

Though he does have some Players inside, Ainz did not think he should summon them. Not even the NPCs know about the true potential and how strong the spell was, so he would be dumb to let the gods know it's true depth.

Through everything being said, there were certain restrictions to <Legion of Death> that could not be removed.

First and foremost, only creatures Ainz himself killed would join the legion; meaning his subordinates could not kill others for him.

Secondly, anyone Ainz killed before the creation of the legion will not be affected by the spell.

Third and lastly, if an undead of the legion died, they would be recalled by the spell and enter a period of slumber, before they can arrive back into the world.

Of course, those weaknesses be said, Ainz loved one thing about the <Legion of Death>, no mana to activate!

No matter how many of his undead he summoned, his mana would not be touched in the least.

It's unknown if it's because he had the Ruler of Death Job Class or because he was an Overlord. Nonetheless, Ainz accepted the gift with open arms.

Behind the hovering Ainz, a spherical black hole appeared from which the auras of death, despair, regret, and darkness escaped.

From outside, one could vaguely make out the appearance of a city made of what seem to be bones, with green lanterns and dark shadows walking about.

At the entrance of the city, an old plaque with withering words sat crookedly, leaving behind a few words: City of Death.

The City of Death is a failed attempt at creating an underworld for those who worship him as a god. To be specific, Ainz wanted to create a place where he could resurrect his NPCs without using Yggdrasil coins or Wand of Resurrection.

The reason he failed is because Ainz lacked knowledge of life as opposed to death. Even utilizing Pandora's Actor and Demiurge intelligence did not get him closer to accomplishing his goal.

However, it might be fate or mere coincidence but with his current power and knowledge of life and death, Ainz could instantly see where he failed.

Ainz did not think about the City of Death, as he had forgotten about its existence.

The space of the <Legion of Death>, was unable to accept souls of those not killed by him. Not only that, the space could not be accessed by anyone but himself.

There are a couple things he could do to solve this problem. Firstly, he could puncture a couple holes into the space but that will give the undead who unwillingly serve him a chance to escape.

Secondly, he could move the City of Death to the main world, and let it operate.

Shaking his head, Ainz looked at the hundreds of undead who accepted his call. They all stood in an orderly fashion, waiting for his orders.

At the front of the undead legion is Platinum Dragon Lord, the Self Proclaimed Guardian of the New World.

Platinum Dragon Lord towered over the rest of the undead, looking like a frightening dragon. Though, without the items he once wore, he was unable to showcase his full strength, he was still a powerful threat but not as strong as those guys.

"Platinum Dragon Lord, lead this hundred and secure the mountain. If there are any intelligent beings, use peaceful means to gather information. However, if they are hostile, kill them!" Ainz's eyes showed terrifying killing intent, causing a chill in the surroundings.

"As you wish, Lord Ainz." The former dragon lord bowed, before leading the legion to the mountain below.

Pondering, Ainz wonders if he should have given PDL more undead?

Inside the space, he had millions of souls willing to die for him, but he hesitated, he cannot show too much force to unknown beings watching him.

Ainz couldn't see them, but he had the feeling he was being watched. He trusted his gut feeling, as that's how he survived for so long.

————

After sending the undead inside the mountain, Ainz used <Undead Slave Sight>, to observe the situation.

Ainz's vision split and he could see two perspectives. He could see the mountain below and the flames the undead were seeing.

Even through the sense of the undead, Ainz could feel the terrifying heat of the flames. He was unsure if this was because flames was one of the weaknesses of the undead or if it was because the flame was just that strong.

If the undead was a living person, Ainz was sure that it would combust and turn to ash.

Comparing the flames, Ainz was surprised to realize the flames were hotter than <Hell's Flame>, which was one of the hottest and volatile flames in Yggdrasil. Not only that, if it was stronger, it meant that this flame was probably above the Seventh Tier.

The thing that made Ainz the most shocked was the fact he could see flames of different colors, with the white flame at the center of the mountain, the smallest in size.

The white flame burned, but no heat could be sensed. If one did not see the flame, one would not realize it existed in the first place.

He was both curious and cautious about what these flames seem to be protecting. To that end, Ainz prepared some spells on standby, just in case anything went awry.

Ainz could use a Super Tier spell, however he wisely chose not to.

It was not just Ainz that became stronger, his spells did as well.

If Ainz activates one of his Super Tiers spells, let alone this mountain, it's very likely that the entire Sunbird's territory might cease to be!

However, as a hoarder and collector by nature, Ainz did not want to leave. If he left, the possibility of what could be inside the mountain would torment him.

Thinking for a moment, and weighing his options, Ainz cast a summoning spell:

<Summon High Tier Undead- Death Emperor>!

Activating the spell, death aura emerged from the world, even from Ainz's body, giving him a sense of weakness.

Clenching his fist, Ainz assumed this was the feedback of the loss of experience used to summon the Emperor of Death.

However, Ainz was aware that as soon as the experience was lost, his new source of power actively sought out the weakness and removed it. This means he was still at level 100 but the lost experience could not be returned. However, it's unknown if he could summon special undeads without cost, or if this was a one time thing.

The death aura of the world and Ainz's body converge into a black dot that grows to become a black hole. The black hole grew until it became a physical door, connecting to an unknown realm.

Turning away from the door, Ainz looked towards Ariella and saw that she was alive, making him sign in relief.

————

When Ainz used his summoning spell, in Celestia specially the World of Death, the Reaper noticed the aura of his realm being siphoned.

"Incredible, even while in the world of mortals, he would still be able to entice the death aura in my realm. Still, what is he doing? This spell doesn't seem like a summoning but more like a creation spell, which is weird."

The Reaper could not understand how Ainz, who he viewed as the Ruler of Death, is able to create life. Not only that, with his divine power, Utherus could see that being behind that door was at least a Demigod. What if Ainz spent more time creating it? Would have become a True God.

————

Landing on the peak of the mountain, Ainz approached the door, waiting for the Death Emperor's emergence.

Back in Yggdrasil Ainz had never summoned the Death Emperor, not only because it was unnecessary but also because it's a waste of experience.

However, Ainz was aware of how powerful the Death Emperor was, he is one of the loyal generals under Hel and is one of the few lore related summons that a necromancer can summon.

For Death Emperor to be called Death Emperor, his expertise in the field of necromancy must surpass Ainz himself.

As Ainz watched the door, the door handle moved and a person walked out.

The wake of the individual, the entire skies turned pitch black with thunder and lightning streaking across it.

Under the feet of the individual, the ground began to decay and die as all semblance of life faded. In this area, only Death remains.

While Ainz called the figure an individual, that was further from the truth. The being in front of him looked like a ruthless ruler, because of its appearance.

The figure wore black robes that made him look like a cloud of darkness. His white alabaster skin and red crimson eyes that shone with vengeance against the living. He stood at 12 feet tall, looking like a stable pillar of support.

As soon as the Death Emperor appeared, his eyes glanced at the beings observing him, causing everything to stand still before noise appeared again.

The gaze was calm and indifferent, causing all gods and experts in Dominion to tremble as they were too frightened to even look anymore.

The Primordial Gods for the first time, experience fear and dread, making them not dare interfere.

Taking his gaze back, the Death Emperor approached Ainz and knelt, "I, the Death Emperor have answered your call, Supreme One! Ask and it shall be done!"
