CHAPTER ONE

ORIGIN OF RWANDAN KINGDOM

Rwanda was found in the interlacustrine region of the East Africa. Interlacustrine region refers to the area situated between many lakes. The interlacutrine region consisted of many kingdoms which included: Burundi, Buhavu, Bugande, Bushi, e.t.c

This area also had many lakes which include: L.Victoria, L.Tanganyika, L.Kivu, L.Muhazi e.t.c.

Bugande was the largest kingdom followed by Rwanda and Burundi...

Rwanda kingdom is believed that exited in the fifteenth century according to some historians. The word Rwanda was derived from a Kinyarwanda language verb "Kwanda" that means to "Expand" or to "Enlarge in size"

Rwanda started as a small political nyiginya entity (clanic state). The state was know known as "RWANDA RUGARI RWA GASABO" which means "VAST RWANDA OF GASABO" . It was located on the shores of L.Muhazi, today is Gasabo district

It is believed that the founder of the Nyiginya dynasty was Gihanga Ngomijana. It was located in the interlacutrine region. Through was of an annexing different areas Rwanda became very big.
