Vee’s momma had been his best friend his entire life. They’d been unusually close as if their bond had been a compensation for a father who was constantly busy. They’d talked on the phone several times a week, and texted every day. Nothing earthshattering, just quick updates from their lives. And pictures. Lots of pictures. She’d send him images from her garden or her cooking, and he would snap a photo of the two of us together for her. He’d told me once she’d saved every one of them.
She’d been a fantastic lady and very supportive of our relationship. I had missed her over the time we’d been apart, and now I wasn’t ever going to see her again.
