Introduction

Characters within the Chapter:

Makano (Ma-ka-no): A naturally beautiful young girl with orange hair cut to hang just to the middle of her neck. She wears her light blue uniform, a dress with long sleeves and a short skirt skimming above her knees with pockets along the hip area. As well as belt at her waist and baggy white pants with tactical footwear that goes above her ankles. While on duty she wears tactical gloves along with a light blue pilot cap with an understrap.

Grandpa: An old man with gray hair and a short beard. He wears simple everyday clothes that you would find on most people who work in antique or old fashioned shops.

Chief: A middle age old man who wears a blue police bomber jacket with an orange colar along with jeans, boots, and also a white police cap.

Mr.Torgue: A man with a stone face, has a mustache with a long bushy mullet. He wears a bandana over head with aviators. His attire is closely similar to chiefs with some slight differences.

From the bottom of the city, you can only see the blue sky overhead in certain spots. Towering concrete skyscrapers block most views but one girl sits atop a building staring at the sky. A glass dome lies above the opening. "The sky looks so beautiful from here…is the air really polluted with clear skies up there?" ponders the girl. "Makano! Makano, are you up there?" shouts an old man. "Yes!" replies Makano as she climbs off her sightseeing spot. She hops down to the ledge of another building then to the narrow alley. "I need your help with something, if you're not busy" says the old man. "Sure, grandpa," replies Makano.

The city is completely underground. Skyscrapers and raised platforms that buildings sit on fill the city. Including the walls filled with shops, apartments, businesses, and other buildings.

Makano stands next to her grandfather who sits at his desk. "It says I need an update in order to access this thing, right here" says Grandpa as he points at an app on his computer screen. "But every time I click "Yes" for the update nothing happens", "Have you tried turning it off and on?" asks Makano. "Yes, I've tried everything I could think of but nothing works". "Then I think you need a new computer, grandpa". "Hmph, I would get a new one but we don't have the

money" states Grandpa. Grandpa turns his chair to face the wide window

behind him. He looks upon the many concrete buildings that line the streets

of their city. "*Sighs* It feels like life only gets harder the longer I stay down here" says Grandpa. Makano looks down at her grandpa. "Oh look at the time, you should get going" says Grandpa. "Ah, you're right," says Makano as she begins to make her way to the door. "Be safe, love you" says Grandpa. "Love you too" replies Makano as she exits the room.

Makano walks up the stairs to the roof of the building. She reaches the top then quickly walks to her SÄU. She opens the lock of the chain connecting SÄU to the railing of the building. She sets it in the center of the roof. She yanks the engine starter a few times until the engine starts. She stands on the back of SÄU's small body, holding onto its handlebars that stand just below Makano's waist. The wings of SÄU span over five feet long with two pairs on each side. The wings are clear and look like the wings of an insect. When the engine starts the wings begin to flap up & down rapidly, creating a buzzing noise and SÄU rises off the ground. Makano presses a button on the right handle bar, rockets on the back of SÄU take off.

Makano examines the city below as she flies over. "From up here, everything looks the same. This entire world feels no different wherever I go" thinks Makano. Some sections of the city were completely dark with no light and some run down, abandoned.

Makano lands SÄU on the top of a police station tower. She gets off SÄU and walks down the spiral staircase into the police building. She runs into the chief of police as she enters the reception area. "Makano, get your gear on now. I need you out there with Mr.Torgue as soon as you're ready" says the chief. "Yes, sir" replies Makano as she jogs quickly towards the locker room.

The door to the garage of the police station opens and out comes Makano. Makano wears her uniform mostly everyday so all she has to put on are tactical gloves and an understrap hat along with other necessary gear. She gets in the running car. As she closes the door, Torgue presses down on the gas. He drives out of the garage onto the main road. "You're late" asks Torgue. "I lost track of time," replies Makano.

The police vehicle is parked on the right side of a busy highway far above the ground bridge in a small parking space. The two watch the many cars that pass by and listen for the radar to sound. Torgue listens to guitar solos with his thin headphones. He sits there with aviators on and an expression of seriousness on his face. Makano rests her chin on her fist with her arm against the door. She stares at the many skyscrapers that surround them, above and below as well as the flying vehicles that pass by, mostly police.

A car speeds down the highway passing cars by and by. Makano notices the car zip past them. The radar buzzes. "Torgue? Torgue?" says Makano as she keeps her eye on the car. She turns and flicks his headphones off his head. "TORGUE, GO!". Torgue in a panic starts the vehicle and slams the gas to full acceleration. Makano turns on the siren. The vehicle joins the stream of the road with a swirvy entrance. "What did the car look like?" asks Torgue. "White with light blue stripes…I'll call it out" says Makano. They speed past each car ahead of them. Then Makano catches sight of the car again. "There, white and blue!" shouts Makano pointing out towards the car. "I see it," replies Torgue. They steadily approach the car but suddenly it takes a turn onto an off ramp. Torgue maneuvers the vehicle to make it to the ramp in the nick of time.

The chase continues down the ramp into a town. "Hold on…I've got a shortcut" says Torgue as he takes a sharp turn to the right of the ramp. He then turns again into a parking garage. The vehicle goes up the slope in the garage, when they reach the top they go jumping off the edge of the slope to the second floor. Then to the third floor, speeding up the slope. The vehicle leaps, after reaching the opened roof third floor all the way to the rooftops of the other buildings. Jumping from roof to roof, Torque keeps watch over head of the car in pursuit. "Here we go!" yells Torgue as they leap off the last building at the end of the street that split into a two way intersection. Makano holds onto the interior of the car tightly, her face full of thrill. The vehicle lands in the park ahead. Torque turns around and goes to confront the car before it's able to leave the street. The car begins to back up but Torgue bumps into the face of it and smashes its back side against the front of an abandoned building.

"Two males, reason of arrest; "speeding"" reads aloud Makano from a notepad to Torgue as he stuffs the two young kids into the back of the vehicle. "Ha…Next time, I won't have the music so loud," says Torgue. "You're going to go deaf with how loud you play your music," says Makano. "But that's what makes me feel awesome!" "Hahaha, aviators and rock music make you awesome?" "Heck, YES!". They get back into the vehicle and go back to the station.
