Margaret's POV
The immense grief made it difficult for me to breathe. I collapsed on my parents' bodies and cried for a long time until finally, I was sent back home by a neighbor.
"Little Margaret, if you need anything, just let us know. Your parents have helped us a lot before..."
After Ann left with a sad face, I went to my parents' room and lay down on the bed.
"Dad, Mom..." I held the pillow that still had their scent and cried non-stop. Gradually, the pillow became soaked with my tears.
Eventually, my tears dried up and my eyes hurt. My nose was blocked, and I could only breathe through my mouth. My brain became fuzzy, and I felt my body getting hot. In a daze, I seemed to see my parents in front of me once more.
I was standing at the border of the pack again, holding the fruits I picked from the forest in my arms.
"Today is the day my parents come back..." My murky mind became clear again, and I returned to the pack excitedly.
"Marg!" Dad and Mom called as soon as they saw me and opened their arms to me.
I rushed over and gave them a big hug, before I ed them each with a fruit from the pile in my arms.
"Is it sweet?" I ased as I looked at them expectantly.
They touched my head and face, smiled, and each gave me a light kiss on my cheeks. "As sweet as my baby."
Dad picked me up and hed me tightly before reaching for moms hand, their fingers interlacing together. We hummed the nursery rhyme they had taught me before they left as we walked towards home.
Our home was clearly right in front of us, but no matter how far or fast we walked, we couldn't seem to reach the doorstep...
Suddenly, I felt a cold hand on my head.
"Wow, she's like a furnace!"
"We need to call a doctor. Hopefully someone can come and save her. She's so young..."
There were murmurs around me, but I couldn't see who was speaking. My heart suddenly became panicked, and I grabbed my dad's hand tightly, but they suddenly disappeared.
"Dad! Mom! Where are you?!"
I ran around the pack frantically, looking for them, but I couldn't find anyone. It was as if the whole world was just me.
I crouched in a corner of the wall helplessly, burying my head and crying.
"You should have gone and died with them!"
I suddenly looked up at the person speaking.
"I" had swollen eyes and looked at me with hate burning brightly in them. She waved her hand, and two completely different scenes appeared in front of me.
One was my parents struggling in pain, screaming for help. They were covered in blood, and in the end they stopped breathing with their eyes wide open looking at me; the other was me playing happily with Jacob in the forest.
"When they were hovering on the edge of death, you were laughing happily! Look how happy you were!"
With her words, my laughter gradually grew louder and echoed throughout the empty pack.
I covered my ears in pain and curled up into a ball. Her voice circled around my ears like a ghost.
"Ah!!" I screamed out in despair, and the world around me became quiet.
I slowly opened my eyes and as soon as I did, I became aware of my head throbbing with pain. I raised my arm weakly and was about to rub my temples with my hand when I noticed a needle attached to it, with an IV bag hanging above me.
"You had a high fever last night, and Ann discovered it in the morning. Otherwise, you would have died," my owner Oscar and Ann, who stood behind him, looked at me with concern.
Their concern for my wellbeing made my tears fall uncontrollably again.
"Master, my parents aren't dead, right? Yesterday was just a joke they played on me, right?" I struggled to sit up and looked at him expectantly.
His face had a moment of awkwardness: "Jim and Mia accidentally broke the Alpha heir's beloved cup in the Berserk Pack, which angered him. He locked them up in the dungeon," he sighed softly, "when I rescued them, they were already..."
My parents' lives were cruelly taken away just because of a cup!
The scene of their death flashed through my mind. In my childish mind, I wanted nothing more than to rush to the Berserk Pack and kill the murderer immediately.
"I will kill him!" I pounded the bed board hard with my fists, and my voice was filled with unrestrained hatred.
Upon hearing my words, Ann rushed up and covered my mouth: "Master, please forgive Margaret. She's just too sad and said offensive words about the Alpha."
I also realized what I had said just now. If an Omega says something offensive about a werewolf of Alpha rank, they will be executed immediately.
Oscar stared at me with his black eyes, then Ann. There was an emotion in his eyes that I couldn't understand, but it made me inexplicably afraid. But soon he smiled at me and waved his hand: "It's understandable. Although Jacob Gelbero is the Alpha heir, he was too cruel this time."
"Jacob..." I felt like I had heard this name somewhere before. When I tried to remember where the memory came from, my head suddenly hurt again.
"What? Do you know him?" Oscar's voice was a little nervous.
I tried hard to remember, but I couldn't recall what had happened after my parents left. After Oscar found out, he immediately had the doctor do a thorough examination on me.
After the doctor checked me with a disgusted expression on his face, he casually concluded that I had partial memory loss due to witnessing my parents' death and having a high fever.
After confirming that I was okay, Oscar left with his people. Ann told me that my parents had been buried properly while I had been in the hospital.
I followed her to their burial ground - a beautiful place amogst a field of flowers.
Unfortnately, Omegas are not eligible to be buried in the pack cemetery after they die. We will only be buried in different flower fields as fetilizer for the flowers.
"A rose field." I remember they both loved roses...
"I knelt down on the ground, tears falling into the black, pungent soil. I looked up at the blood-red roses. Today, not only were my parents buried, but the seed of hatred was also planted.
Jacob Gelbero, this name was firmly engraved in my heart. I will remember his name forever, until the day I kill him with my own hands!
Ten years later...
While all the servants were still asleep, I sneaked into the nearby abandoned garage, which I had converted into a crude training room. For the past ten years, I have been secretly training myself without anyone noticing.
I have never forgotten the way Jacob Gelbero ensured that my parents died.
Every day, the one thing that drives me forward is hatred...
After completing my daily training, I returned to the servant's quarters. I had just finished serving breakfast to Oscar and his sister Sarah when they were called away by Alpha Saul. As their personal maid, I had an obligation to follow them unless told otherwise.
"Margaret, wait outside."
Following Oscar's orders, I waited outside. The argument inside grew louder and louder, to the point where I could hear it clearly from outside the door.
"Father! I don't want to marry him! You're sending me to my death!" Sarah's shrill voice was almost piercing my eardrums. "If you force me to marry him, I will definitely run away!"
Hmm...sounds like her usual style of doing things, only caring about herself regardless of the consequences for others.
"You!" Alpha Saul sounded like he was about to lose his voice from anger. "If we don't form an alliance with him, we'll be his next target!"
"Margaret!" Oscar's tone also sounded irritated.
I immediately pushed open the door and walked in. He pointed to the coffee and I immediately brewed three cups and placed them in front of them.
"Father, he has taken over so many packs, his viciousness and cruelty are known throughout werewolf land. And yet you still want to form an alliance and force me to marry him!"
I was about to hand Sarah her cup of coffee when she angrily slammed her hand on the table, causing the scalding coffee to spill onto my hand. My hand instantly became swollen and blistered, but at that moment, all my attention was drawn to the documents on the table.
Sarah's betrothed was none other than Jacob Gelbero!"
