FEIFEI'S CRAFT

CHAPTER NINETEEN

They thought Feifei is a woman. They will refer to Feifei as a "she" or "her".

When Yuan came home, his family was waiting for his return. They all looked simultaneously at him when he appeared at the door.

He feigned a cough.

" Father." He respectfully greeted.

Yu Quibai smiled at him. "You're back."

"uhm."

Shan Xuefei and Fanfan immediately stood up together.

Fanfan took the insulated food box Yuan was holding while Shan Xuefei prepared his son's dinner. "Wash up first."

"uhm."

Yuan went directly to the kitchen to wash his hands and face.

Good thing, the walk home released some of his pent up desires.

Or it will be humiliating to have his family witness his erection.

Seeing her brother walk to the kitchens, Fanfan sat closer to her father and whispered. "The food box is still heavy."

Yu Quibai raised his eyebrows.

"Maybe brother forgot to give it?" Fanfan said while opening the box.

Then she gasped.

The moment Fanfan opened the food box, a delicious aroma floated in the room.

Yu Quibai and Shan Xuefei looked at the box Fanfan was holding.

"Its a meat bun!" Fanfan exclaimed. "Sister Feifei gave four big meat buns!"

Fanfan picked a big meat bun. The freshly baked aroma and the nutty sweet smell lingered in the air.

They gulp.

Fanfan gave the warm meat bun first to her father. "Do you still want to eat, father?"

Yu Quibai took the meat bun and tore it in half.

The sweet and meaty smell is now even stronger.

Fanfan and Shan Xuefei both looked at the halved bun with intensity.

Shan Xuefei took the food box, gave Fanfan her share, placed one on Yuan's plate and ate hers.

"Delicious!" Fanfan cried out. Her mouth oily with meat.

The bun is soft, moist and warm. Has a nutty sweet flavor that perfectly blends together with the juicy meat.

"I think this meat has no spice aside from salt. But its flavorful." Shan Xuefei said while slowly tasting the bun.

"She only has salt." a voice came from the back door.

They all looked as Yuan entered.

Shan Xuefei looked at Yuan with a suspicious look on her face. "How did you know?"

Fanfan and Yu Quibai looked at Yuan with strange faces.

Curious to know his answer.

Yuan cleared his throat.

But kept silent.

Then he sat down, ready to eat. Not sparing them another glance.

Shan Xuefei : !!!!

Yu Quibai : !!!!!

Fanfan : !!!!!

Shan Xuefei is brought to her knees by this impossible son of hers. She is always crushed by defeat!

Shan Xuefei glared at Yuan with contempt.

"Men doesn't know anything about the kitchen. Much less Shen, a man who has been living alone." Shan Xuefei said as a matter of fact. "He doesn't even look like the type that cooks. What does he know about cooking?"

Yuan snickered.

He reached out and took the bun prepared for him.

Looking around his family with a meat bun each, he did not know Feifei placed four big meat buns in the food box.

He just thought it was something else.

Warmth filled his heart.

Eating the meat buns, Yuan's eyes lit with satisfaction and approval.

The bun is soft and fluffy. It smells sweet but its not. The thickness of the skin is meticulously done. Not to thick, not to thin. And the meat is cooked just right. Juicy and fragrant.

This woman can make something ordinary into a delicious treat even with the unavailability of most ingredients.

His cold face showed a rare look of tenderness before it disappeared as fast as it came.

"Is Feifei settled?" Shan Xuefei asked Yuan as she finished the bun in contentment.

"uhm."

Again, Shan Xuefei looked at his son in disdain.

"Just eat. I won't ever be able to pry out anything from that tight lips of yours. It will be much better if Feifei visits me instead."

"Shen has been gone for a month now. He said Feifei will temporarily replace him. So, Feifei will be too busy at the mine. With Shen's long absence, a lot of work must have compiled that needs Feifei's immediate attention." Yu Quibai gave Shan Xuefei a subtle reminder.

Don't cause trouble.

Shan Xuefei's face stiffened. "She is a woman. Most of the mine workers are men!"

"Does Brother Shen have any other siblings?" Fanfan puzzled.

"He has three younger brothers. Only Feifei, his cousin, is the girl. Next to him is a town butcher like his father. The third brother, same age as Feifei, went to Gyffes as a soldier. The youngest is just twelve." Yu Quibai patiently explained.

"Shen is afraid if he gives the opportunity to others, it will be difficult, if not impossible, to get the work back when he returned. Shen now has a wife and two children to support. So, he took the risk and asked Feifei. Anyway, the Head Chief of Kaneko Mine is Shen's Uncle."

Yu Quibai carefully explained the details on why Feifei has to work in the Mines.

This is to prevent Feifei from being slandered for working with a majority of men. And for them not to think Shen being unreasonable.

Yu Quibai looked at his wife and daughter.

Knowing these two women in their family, these facts are bound to be known in the village. Which is good.

Sooner or later, the villagers will know of Feifei's existence. And her work in the mines.

Having an uncle as the Head Chief of Kaneko Mine is also a bonus.

"There is no distinction between men and women when it comes to work. Men have strong physical strength. But women has inner strength stronger than most men." Yu Quibai continued.

"Don't let the villagers talk nonsense. I think Feifei's character is good. Anyway, she has her own space as the Transport Head Assistant."

Shan Xuefei was silently absorbing the facts. "That girl Feifei really knows how to care for her family. She even traveled alone for a month just to help out her cousin. To think she is just a girl."

"Exchanging buns for the food mother gave, it shows sister Feifei's good disposition." Fanfan muttered.

Hearing his family's thoughts, Yu Quibai is satisfied and looked at his wife and daughter with affection.

Both of them may love to gossip and talk about other people's business, but Yu Quibai knows. His family have good innate characters.

Listening to his family's conversation, Yuan's face became forbidding and even more ominous.

Work in a mine full of men?

Traveled alone for a month?

How courageous can that woman get?

Thinking about his second encounter with her, Yuan snorted.

The wild cat has sharp claws and an even sharper mouth.

Yuan sighed. He forgot about Feifei working in the mines.

This woman sure is trouble.

Yuan was deep in his thoughts that he was startled when a parchment was shoved in his face.

"Take it. You might forget it." Shan Xuefei returned the parchment that Yuan gave to her earlier.

"Is everything fine at work?" Yu Quibai asked, looking at his son.

"Tricky case." Yuan looked straight at his father. "Let's take a step to talk?"

Yu Quibai stood up. "Let's go to the third floor study room."

"uhm." Yuan took a drink of water then stood up with the parchment in hand.

Yu Quibai looked at his wife. "Don't wait for me. It might take a while." He then looked at his daughter. " Don't stay up too late outside if your going out for a walk."

Yuan and his father went out one after another and was gone.

"Mother, I will go to Mari's place." Fanfan ran out.

Shan Xuefei was left alone sighing.

It would be nice if Yuan can abduct Feifei home soon.
