Imani took only a moment to process what the man just said and shock washed over her face. "Oh!" she exclaimed with wide eyes. "You're the first –" she cut herself off and her eyes widened even more because she had been about to say he was the first vampire.

Jarlath's brows furrowed slightly as he gave her a once over and his lips curved into a smile because she was really beautiful. "The first?"

"The first?"

"You just said I'm the first..." he trailed off, waiting to see if she would say whatever she had wanted to say after that, and Imani scratched the back of her neck.

"I did?" she asked and she slowly took in a deep breath when the corner of his mouth twitched. "Oh, I wanted to say you're the first person I've seen today but then I remembered I saw those guys," she gestured at the direction the men that had told her to stop had probably taken. "Before I saw you so..." she trailed off and he furrowed his brows again.
