*Statics~~~*

"Log 017, Day 7. 9th of May 2027. I have been found by these groups of people with green eyes. They've asked me to study the infected and uncover the secrets of these monsters. Fortunately they've captured live ones for me to study. *Statics~* It seems like these creatures have 2 weak spots; the brain and the heart. Formally human, I suppose the two organs mentioned are the most vital organs of all other than the kidneys, liver, and lungs. But other than the vital ones, the other organs seemed to be as hard as iron steel to these creatures. The tongue acting like an injector and it seems to be attached to the brain like it's some sort of venom gland. As I perform an autopsy on these creatures and observing the one that are alive, this is how they infect people. It is astonishing that these formally human creatures are capable to develop such genes and spreading it like its a pandemic virus!"

"What're you doing?! Get back to work, doctor!"

"Y-yes! At once!"

*Statics~~~*

"Koharu!!! Hang in there! Miku! Get the bandages!"

"Okay!"

"… Cut it off…" As he struggles to say, Souta argues saying it's not safe. Then Koharu questioned him; "…If you're not going to cut… Then how can you stop me from infecting, from becoming like them?... Please I still have things I want to do…" Souta hesitated but in the end he had no choice.

"Tch… Dammit! Miku give me the axe and go to the other room and cover your eyes!"

"Okay…"

Souta prepared the medications for him to stop the bleed. And to reduce the pain, he grabbed a towel for Koharu to bite on and tied his arm to stop the pulse.

"Hold still and brace yourself!"

*Crack*

*Splat*

"MMMRRRRMMMMMMMMMM!!!"

*Blood dripping*

"Endure it Mr. Koharu! I'm almost done. I just need to disinfect this. This is gonna sting you a little."

Souta prepared a saline solution, also called NaCl solution (Sodium Chloride mixture), a mixture water and salt concentration that reflenishes affected area, and Antibiotics that would prevent infection and could moistened the wound, would cure a person's internal injury in no time. As Souta applied it to Koharu's wound, he screamed like there was no end to it. The muffled screams coming from the next room made Miku reminded herself of the death of her mother, *These screams… It's just like how mom screamed while I hid. I don't want to see anymore dead bodies again nor kill anyone. Please someone help me…* She cried and continued to cover her ear forcing herself to not hear the screams.

Two hours has passed, and all is done. *The experience must've been traumatizing for anyone who doesn't have a strong will. He seems to be stable for now.* Saying with thoughts. He took a deep breath and wiped his sweat and went to the other room to check on his daughter. Seeing her with her hands covering her ears, quietly sleeping with tears in her eyes, made him thought; *Miku… You must've been through a lot…* he gave her a gentle pat in the head, tucked her in, and watched her sleep until eventually he fell asleep as well.

*Miku… Miku… Miku…*

"hrrm…mrmm…HA! Dad… *is that man okay?*"

"Ugh… Miku? What's wong?"

"I'm just worried… about that man. Is he okay dad?"

"Yeah but he needs a lot of rest for four to eight weeks, looks like we're staying here for a while."

"Will our supplies run out by then?"

"Don't worry. This place is crawling with rabbits so I'm sure we'll be fine."

"Are you going to hunt them?"

"It's the only way for us to survive."

"…"

It's been 7 days since Koharu lost his right arm and he's still asleep, not knowing when he's going to wake up. The best thing they can do is wait until he gain his conscience again. Meanwhile, Souta tried to look for a nearby store for medical supplies and food.

*There! A store. Let's hope that is not occupied.*

He carefully entered a small town without making a single making any sound, looking, making sure that he is aware of the environment that no one or nothing of those creatures are around. As he arrives the store he took a peek of the glass windows checking if there's something he can bring home for them to use.

*Ding, Ding*

"Finally some medkits." Souta said as he carries it with him later on he found something after "Huh? A jacket? Looks like Miku's size. Better bring you with me then. "A smile left his face hoping that his daughter would like it. As he finishes and felt complete, he said happily to himself; "I guess that's it for today."

*SCREEEEEEECHHHHH!!!*

As one shrieks right outside the building, Souta acted quickly to hide himself from sight.

*Dammit! There's one right outside. Shit! What do I do?!

The monster thuds the wall after wall and it suddenly became quiet. Souta attempts a quick peek to see if it's still there or not and eventually, they made eye contact. *FUCK! I'M DEAD, I'M DEAD, I'M DEAD!!!* His heart was pounding as it may would rush over him and attack him at any second. That's what he expected but nothing's happening. He took another peek at the monster and apparently is still outside. Staring at nothing, it's just standing there like it was waiting for him to come out. It didn't take long that the bird singing outside caught its attention and followed it away.

*Was that creature blind?! Well might as well be lucky, that was close!*

"*Phew* I guess it's time to head back."

Meanwhile, Miku was cleaning his wound and taking care of Koharu, waiting for her dad to come back. *This must've hurt a lot. I guess I can be thankful that he's alive. We need his help after all.* Thinking that while treating his wounded arm. *Ugh* the sudden grunt startled her and dropped herself.

*He's waking up!*

"…Where am I?.."

"W-we're in the outskirts of Nal-sinhan…"

" Oh right… We escaped… *Sigh* So much for this old thing."

"Umm… I'm sorry about your arm…"

"Don't worry about it, kid. It's not your fault."

Miku just stood there silently. It was getting awkward for him so he tried to think of a conversation topic. But he has no idea what a twelve year old girl would like to talk about or what their interest is.

"So… You wanna talk about boys or something?"

"Ehh..? N-no. I'm too young for that…"

"Right… he he~"

*What the hell am I thinking?! Why did I ask the most clichéd question? Saying that to a twelve year old like that she must be embarrassed!!!*

"Well… It's better if we just introduce ourselves then."

"Umm… I-I'm Hyakutake, Miku"

"Right. I'm Koharu Hideki, nice to meet you."

As they slowly open up to each other they started talking about themselves and what they like to do. It's like Miku completely forgotten the horror she have been through. Until they got to the point where she got to tell the story of how she killed her own mother for the sake of their safety. He had no idea how to respond to such experience for a little girl as he just stared at her dead eyes until she started to cry.

"It's alright, kid. Just let it all out. Look, in times like this, you gotta be strong and survive this whole thing. Since your mother wants you to live, might as well give her final wish a reality, right? Besides I've lost someone too. "

"Who were they?

"My wife and son, they didn't have any final words since they gone before I got there. But the least we can do for them is to live, just like your mother wants you to be, right?

"*sniff* *sniff* Yeah… I guess so… Thank you, Mister."

"Mister? Hey now, I'm still 32, don't make feel like an old man here. Haha"

"He…he… Sorry."

Souta's arrival cut off their conversation and was glad that Koharu's awake. Although Souta looked exhausted, he still made an effort of doing a full check up on his wound and thinking if it would be alright for him to move.

"I'm really glad that you're a doctor or else I would've been a goner."

"We would've so too if it wasn't for you. Miku, can you get the extra bandages, please? We gotta add some more so it wouldn't be bleeding anymore. "

"Okay. Here you go dad. I'm going to take the rabbits you hunted and clean them."

"Thank you, Miku. Be careful with that knife."

"I'm surprised that your daughter knows how to treat wounds like this. When I woke up just now, she was treating them."

"Well. Ever since she was a child, she has been copying me while she was with me at work. So she kind of picked it all up from me."

"That's a useful skill at times like this."

"Heh. That's not all she can do, she can also cook like her mother, even better than her actually, she'll probably get mad at me if I said that to her face though. *Heh he* That's why I'm so proud of her. Looks like I'm done, rest and gain your strength back again. We'll cook dinner for you."

While Miku was cleaning the meat, Souta entered the room and started helping Miku with the cooking.

"Ah. That reminds me I found you a jacket. It seemed like your color and size so I picked it up for you. Of course we have to wash it first."

"Thank you, Dad. I'll wash it in the morning and take care of it."

It's the first time he has seen Miku smiling in days. *Whatever happened here while I was gone, I'm glad to see she's slowly coming back to her old self.*Said with his thoughts. She questioned him of what are they going to cook, he replied; "I guess we have enough ingredients for a stew." Having no idea how to make it Miku suggested that she'll make the stew while he helps.

They've finished cooking, "the stew is incredible!" Said Koharu and embarrassingly complimented of how much of a good wife Miku would've turned out. As a father Souta replied; "No one is going to marry her. EVER!" Miku 's embarrassingly giggled as she enjoyed the night. For them it was a blissful day however, they mustn't forget of what danger lurks in the shadows.
